GREED: ALL FOR WHAT?-Chapter 2067: Sorting Offers.
This oath is why people fear lamp bearers and try to avoid them if possible. It is also why lamp bearers are nosy and will refuse bribes.
The oath will make him a true lamp bearer and will grant him the full privileges of one. But it will come with its drawbacks, one of which is that he is not allowed to steal.
There are many other restrictions that will affect his conduct. If he doesn't like the rules and regulations that he has to live by as a probationary officer, then he shouldn't take that oath, or he might die if he breaks it.
However, he doesn't plan to honor the code, so he will go ahead with becoming a lamp bearer. The oath is serious, but he is a future god. It would be shameful for him if he allowed another god to bind him.
It is not a serious path anyways. It isn't made with the origin, as humans don't have an origin. The power of the oath doesn't come from the origin. Its power comes from the god of justice. So it can be broken.
It might be difficult to break the oath and get away with it, but he is looking forward to the challenge.

The thought made him chuckle and say to himself, "It is called eating your cake and having it."
He plans to become a lamp bearer and enjoy all the benefits that come with that identity. But he doesn't want any of the disadvantages and restrictions.
It is a serious matter, but he won't be the first to achieve it. From his knowledge, spies of other gods have been sent into the lamp bearer organization to steal secrets, and many of them got away with it.
Those spies succeeded because they used a higher power to protect themselves against the backlash of breaking the oath. He has a higher power within himself, so he doesn't need to work for others and be their spy. He can be his own spy.
In the meantime, he has to do a good job of being a probationary officer. He did so for a week. Then he returned to the church of steam for his letters after a week.
He took letters that came by the telegraph and the altar, but his interest was only on the letters that came directly through the altar of the god of steam. It is because those who could send letters by the altar had to be rich, and he is only interested in rich partners.
Those who couldn't afford the altar certainly wouldn't be able to afford the kind of money he wants to earn from this technology. Not that a telegraph is cheap to use either and can be afforded by everyone, but it is just not enough to move him financially.
He doesn't care if they are from research institutions hoping to collaborate with him to improve his technology. He is not interested because he doesn't want to improve the technology yet, and because when it is time to improve it, he already knows how.
The letters were numerous enough to fill two large sacks. One of the sacks was for the letters that came through the altar, while the other sack was for the poor telegraph.
The sacks were large, but they were light because they were filled with papers. So it was easy for him to carry them to his dormitory.
Then he spent the day going through the letters.
The first thing he checked was the origin of the letter and the identity of its sender. He used that to gauge its importance before opening the letters to read them.
Even so, some of the letters were disappointing. They came from people who wanted to meet him or who wanted him to come over for a lecture or a banquet.
It was nice to be invited to parties, but he didn't care about that. He only cared about the offers for partnership and financial incentives.
He divided the letters based on this. He put letters from people who wanted to do business with him on one side. Then he put letters about frivolous things on the other side.
The letters of partnership were a smaller portion of the total letters than those with frivolous offers. Even then, there were more than a hundred of them, so he still had more work to do before he could make a decision.
His decision will be based on the background of the sender of the letter and the size of their offer. But he also considered that some of these offers would be fake, sent from people who didn't like him but wanted to trick him into meeting them.
It is a real danger that some of the letters would be baits. It is also going to be difficult for him to tell those who have good intentions apart from those who want to kill him, even with his extensive knowledge.
However, this difficulty disappeared when he spotted a letter that came from a man named Tesla. This Tesla wanted to partner with him financially and intellectually.
He chuckled when he read the letter and said, "So it is this guy. He is here again to take advantage of the situation."
He remembers Tesla from the future. Tesla is a genius machinist. He didn't invent alternating current electricity, but he was one of the hardworking people, if not the most hardworking one, who tried their best to make the technology popular.
Tesla pushed alternating current technology against direct current technology. His fight was much more difficult because advocates for direct current technology also had access to the steam generator and could produce electricity cheaply too.
The main reason why Tesla won was because he developed the technology to transmit alternating current across large distances more efficiently than direct current. That same technology has already been stolen by Legion.
In the future that is yet to happen, Tesla will invent better means of producing alternating current through the alternating current dynamo and make other era defining inventions.
