Help, I'm in Another World and All the Men Are Are So Dangerous! [BL]-Chapter 149: Echoes of the Wolf
Chapter 149: Echoes of the Wolf
The space was simple, featuring a dried-up fountain, a small pond, and unassuming wildflowers blooming close to the ground.
What is this place?
Rocco wondered while looking around the area.
It seemed strangely out of place for the grandeur of the Del Fiore estate.
As he quietly advanced, his eyes caught sight of a small gazebo a short distance ahead.
Its white, ethereal design fit more seamlessly with the estate’s elegant atmosphere, which exuding a mystical charm.
Creeping cautiously through the bushes, Rocco peeked out and spotted a faint silhouette within the gazebo.
Narrowing his eyes to get a better look, he confirmed it was Laxus before he quickly come closer to him.
The full moon shone brilliantly above the gazebo, casting a soft glow.
As Rocco approached him, he suddenly noticed the figure inside sway unsteadily, causing him to freeze mid-step.
"Hm? What’s going on...?"
It wasn’t his imagination.
The silhouette of Laxus was indeed wavering, as though he were struggling to stay upright.
Is he feeling unwell?
Maybe that’s why he left the hall—to clear his head.
A sharp deduction formed in Rocco’s mind as he quickly run toward the gazebo, concern etched on his face.
However, as Rocco drew closer, what he saw made his eyes widen in shock.
The figure that had been Laxus just moments ago was no longer there.
Instead, standing in the gazebo was something entirely different—something not even human.
It was a massive creature, towering over the small structure.
"A... wolf?" Rocco murmured in disbelief.
The creature had pristine white fur and eyes as red as gemstones.
It was massive, far larger than Rocco, and unmistakably—without a doubt—a wolf.
"W-What?! Where did Laxus go...?!"
Just moments ago, Laxus had been standing there.
But now, he was gone, and in his place stood this wolf as if it owned the gazebo.
Rocco was panic, he frantically looked around, darting his gaze in every direction.
However, no matter where he searched, there was no sign of Laxus anywhere.
Could it be...?
A horrible thought struck him and his face turned pale.
No way... no way.
Could this wolf have... devoured Laxus in an instant?!
"Th-That’s... No! No way!"
The thought of the story’s second main character meeting such an untimely end was unthinkable.
And being eaten by a wolf, of all things?
That wasn’t just unacceptable—it was absurd!
There was nothing remotely heroic about such a fate.
Determined to prevent this ridiculous outcome, Rocco shoved aside his fear of the massive carnivorous creature in front of him that was radiating an aura of overwhelming dominance.
Waving his arms frantically, he charged at the wolf, shouting.
"W-Wait! You there—wolf! Stop right there!"
Rocco stormed into the gazebo at full speed and coming to a halt directly in front of the enormous wolf.
He planted himself firmly, blocking its path with a determined stance.
The wolf turned around toward him.
It was startled for a moment and blinking its crimson eyes as if caught off guard.
It froze while staring at Rocco.
Seizing the opportunity, Rocco puffed himself up and unleashed his righteous anger.
"You! What did you do with Laxus?! If you swallowed him, spit him out right now! You can’t eat Laxus, you hear me? That’s not allowed! Not allowed!"
He raised his fists and began smacking the wolf’s soft and fluffy fur.
Despite its soft appearance, the wolf’s body was surprisingly firm—so much so that it felt like hitting a stone wall.
This isn’t going to work, Rocco thought while tilting his head in frustration.
If this came down to a fight, there was no way he could win.
Of course, challenging a wolf to a battle hadn’t exactly been part of his plan to begin with...
It was only at that moment that Rocco realized he had already challenged the wolf.
The memory of smacking its fur flashed through his mind like a vivid replay, and with it came the chilling certainty of his impending doom.
"U-um, I mean..." Rocco stammered.
"Woof~!!"
The wolf let out a low growl, its deep rumble reverberating through the air.
Rocco was startled and fell onto his backside.
Scooting backward on the ground, his eyes welled with tears as the wolf’s crimson eyes narrowed into sharp slits, its giant body moving closer toward him at an agonizingly slow pace.
When the wolf’s tongue flicked out and licked his cheek, Rocco froze for a second and trembling uncontrollably.
Despite his fear, he forced himself to speak, trying to sound composed but failing miserably.
"I-I’m not tasty! I swear! I-I-If you really want to eat me, at least bring Laxus back first!"
The wolf didn’t respond, it just stared at him in silence.
"I mean it! Y-You can chomp down on me if you want, but... just... just give Laxus back!" Rocco pleaded with his trembling voice.
He clenched his eyes shut and shouted his desperate request.
For a moment, the wolf’s growling stopped.
Rocco’s mind raced.
Laxus was one of the story main protagonist; he couldn’t die.
There was no way the narrative could reach such a grim conclusion this early on.
This was strange.
A glitch in the story.
And it was undoubtedly his fault.
Rocco had made countless changes to the original plot in his way to survive, he rewriting the narrative to preserve his life.
It was no surprise that these disruptions could ripple out and affect the two main protagonist’s destiny, causing a catastrophic error.
If that were the case, then the responsibility was his alone.
Even if the wolf devoured him here and now, Rocco resolved to ensure that Laxus returned to the proper storyline.
Whatever it took, he had to set things right.
That resolve was why Rocco, even in the face of a wolf that couldn’t possibly understand him, poured his heart into an earnest plea.
"I-I said mean things to Laxus... I’m sorry... I shouldn’t have..."
"..."
"Laxus is actually a good person! A really good person! But I went and said something so dumb..."
