Chapter 206: 206. How many pigs?_1
Regarding the vegetable vendor’s question, Song Tan snorted:
“Talking about money with our own people, huh.”
The vendor felt somewhat shamed and annoyed, “Hey, you’re not going to let this go, are you? My girl spent so much money on school, learned plenty of good skills, and she even has work experience. Why can’t she ask for money?”
He puffed out his chest with pride, “I’ll have you know, she won awards for her designs back in school!”
After speaking, he became dejected again, “But it didn’t do much good. She passed the written exam at a design institute after graduation, but not the interview. She came back planning to work and continue taking exams, so she joined a big company in Ning City—those guys just know how to bully the newcomers. My girl has been so stressed out at work for two years!”
Having said his piece, he glanced at Song Tan sideways, “If we weren’t in this sort of relationship, I wouldn’t even mention this issue with my daughter to you!”
Got it.
Song Tan expressed her gratitude for his trust, “Our girl really is unlucky—what did you say just now? Lost over twenty pounds? My goodness, it’s not healthy for a young girl to be too thin!”
“How about this, let’s not talk about money for now. Have her come back with me to check out the environment. If she likes it, we can sign a contract for the design later!”
She smiled especially sweetly, “Brother, I see you setting up your stall, all leisurely and such, your family must be well off, right? The cost for the design is nothing, the main thing is to get our girl’s health back, isn’t it?”
“As for the price, well, you don’t understand the market. I’ll discuss it with our girl slowly.”
The vegetable vendor looked at her, feeling like he had been taken advantage of, his expression full of doubt.
Thinking of his daughter, however, he did pity her, and so he watched her skeptically while taking out his phone:
“Daughter, come to the riverside vegetable market… Hey, if I call you, you come. Why so much talk? Hurry up!”
After hanging up, he looked at Song Tan again, whispering a promise this time:
“If you help my daughter get her health back, and if she recovers well, I’ll introduce you to a good prospect afterward.”
Deal!
Song Tan also took out her phone, “Find someone sturdy, more manly.”
The vendor chuckled slyly, “Why, don’t you young girls all like those pretty boys? My daughter is always screaming about her pop idols, and here you are wanting someone more robust?”
Yep.
Song Tan nodded, “Are you available in early June? Otherwise, how about introducing him to me then?”
The vegetable vendor was taken aback; he had been joking, for the girl was so capable—why would she be looking for a relationship all of a sudden? But seeing that Song Tan had even planned the time, he couldn’t help but be astounded:
“Why June? How many are you meeting in a month? What, are you scheduling them in shifts?”
Song Tan smiled shyly, “No, isn’t it just the one you mentioned? Look, I haven’t even registered yet—introduce him to me in early June, we spend half a month getting to know each other, and then it’s time to harvest the rice at home.”
“If he’s strong, he should show it, right? How will I know if he’s really strong? Just hope he’s not one of those who bulk up on protein powder and steroids—would be all for show!”
Vegetable vendor: …
A moment later, he cursed loudly:
“Pah! I knew it. You young girls these days, all with your fancy ideas, not one of you wants a serious relationship!”
“My girl is already twenty-six this year. If we don’t choose someone soon, all that’ll be left on the market are the rejects!”
Song Tan smiled innocently.
She knew it, just mention having the prospective date help with farm work, and whether it’s the village aunties or the enthusiastic relatives and friends, they’d all back off immediately.
Of course, she didn’t really mind if they didn’t back off.
After all, if they dared to set her up, she’d genuinely take their candidate down to the fields.
Who needs a relationship, anyway? Could an ordinary guy match up to her, a fairy who knew how to make money?

As the wait went on, the shepherd’s purse and garlic shoots were almost all picked out; both could be used for stir-frying, apparently, as popular as the green onions.
Only the cilantro, the world’s greatest cilantro, was left, pitifully remaining in the basket with more than thirty bunches.
Song Tan decided that if her vegetable seller neighbor’s daughter came and they still couldn’t be sold, she would just take them back and ship them off!
As she was mulling this over, she saw an electric scooter stylishly stop next to the pickup truck.
Then a young girl with wheat-colored skin, about 165 centimeters tall and with a well-proportioned figure, got off.
She wore a loose jumpsuit with Doc Martens and had her long curly hair casually tied up, even her walking posture seemed to carry a breeze.
Wowzers!

Song Tan watched with undisguised interest.
After all, she hadn’t often seen such a stylish girl in her two lifetimes.
But the girl’s facial features… She glanced at her and then turned her head to look at the beaming vegetable seller beside her.
Now bewildered, she asked, “Didn’t you say your daughter lost more than twenty pounds?”
The girl looked perfectly well-proportioned and healthy; where had she lost weight?
“Yes,” he answered.
But the vegetable seller viewed her through the filter of a concerned father, his eyes settling on the loose jumpsuit:
“Didn’t you notice how baggy that outfit is?”
Song Tan shut her mouth.
She didn’t think it was baggy; she just thought the loose clothes looked nice.
“What’s up, Dad?”
The girl twirled the electric scooter key in her hand and then squatted down in front of her father’s stall.
The vegetable seller chuckled merrily:
“Come here, my girl, let me introduce you. This is the boss of the stall next to ours; her family is planning to build a big courtyard and is looking for a designer to come up with a plan. I thought of you immediately and called you over.”
The girl was rather surprised: “You’re introducing me? Didn’t you not want me to get into this line of work?”
She took another glance at Song Tan, her eyes instantly softening: “Hi, Miss.”
Clearly, she was even more formidable than the social butterfly Tantan.
The vegetable seller was not happy with that comment:
“You’re my daughter; have you ever not succeeded in whatever you’ve wanted to do since you were little? Haven’t I always supported you?”
“If it hadn’t been for you being bullied at work every day and losing so much weight, why would I have asked you to come back?”
The girl sighed helplessly:
“How many times have I told you, I wasn’t bullied? Why don’t you ever believe me?”
She turned her head, deciding to give up on convincing her intractable dad, and smiled at Song Tan: “Hello, I’m Zhao Fangyuan, ‘Fang’ as in fragrance, ‘Yuan’ as in Yuanming Garden. You can just call me Yanyan.”
“Don’t listen to my dad’s nonsense; I’ve worked on quite a few orders in Ning City, including villas, high-rises, and duplex apartments. If you really want to hire me to draw up plans, you can take a look first. There’s a designers’ register online where you can also see my name—though I have to say if you do want me to draw up plans, it won’t be cheap.”
She spoke with full confidence and a domineering air. Song Tan looked at the silent vegetable seller who couldn’t find the words and thought for a moment. Still curious, she asked:
“Your dad mentioned you’ve been bullied, lost over twenty pounds, and your mood too…”
