Chapter 84 - Nigel in Trouble

Karlene gave no chance for Roy to greet Noran and Shuri as she continued to scold Noran, pointing her index finger at him. "Are you trying to make my sister avoid me now? How dare you!"

Noran's jaw tightened, but he refrained from arguing with Karlene.

Instead, his cold gaze shifted to Roy, who was watching the scene unfold with amusement.

It was his first time seeing someone dare to scold Noran so openly. His appreciation for Karlene seemed to deepen.

"Why are you here?" Noran asked Roy in a low voice.

"Of course, I came to see your lovely fiancée," Roy replied, his tone implying, "You think you can hide her from me?"

Noran's expression darkened further. "Why do you want to see Rin?"

Roy looked at Noran as if he were behaving ridiculously. Why was his friend acting like he was here to steal his fiancée? He hadn't even introduced himself to Shuri yet, and Noran was already giving him the death stare.

Karlene, seeing Noran ignoring her, grew even angrier and exclaimed, "Hey, I'm talking to you here! What did you mean by what you said earlier?"

Noran glanced down at Karlene, but instead of answering, he took Shuri by the hand and stepped into the arriving lift with Happy.

Shuri, who was initially thinking about how to calm the situation, was surprised by Noran leading her so abruptly.

Noran quickly pressed the close button, but Karlene was swift to react.

She thrust her arm between the closing doors, forcing them to reopen.

"You think you can run from me?" She stepped into the lift with Roy, happily tagging along, clearly enjoying the drama.

However, before Karlene could say more, Shuri, reacting quickly, asked, "Lene, is this gentleman here your boyfriend?"

The question had the desired effect, shifting everyone's attention to Roy, who stood beside Karlene.

Karlene, momentarily forgetting her anger, quickly denied, "No way! He's just a friend. I invited him because he said he's a good friend of this despicable man here."

She shot another glare at Noran, who now appeared to be ignoring her.

"Nice to meet you, you must be Shuri Lee. I'm Roy Lloyd." Roy smiled warmly at Shuri and extended his hand for a handshake.

"Ah yes, nice to meet you, Mr. Lloyd."

Shuri reached out, but before she could complete the handshake, the lift reached their floor.

Noran, moving swiftly, led Shuri out before she could finish the gesture, catching her by surprise.

"Ran?"

Roy sighed, his hand still extended.

He murmured in disbelief, "So childish."

Karlene, undeterred, followed them out of the lift. "You can't just walk away from this! Hey! Come back here!"

Noran continued to ignore Karlene and quickly scanned his access card to enter his apartment with Shuri and Happy, closing the door in Karlene's face.

As a result, Karlene rang the doorbell repeatedly, the insistent sound echoing through the apartment.

Shuri sighed as she faced the door, contemplating how to resolve the conflict.

Lately, it seemed like Noran and Karlene were clashing more frequently, and she had grown accustomed to mediating between them.

"Let her calm down first," Noran said firmly.

Shuri nodded, agreeing with him.

She knew nothing would be resolved when Karlene was in such an angry state.

After receiving their greetings from Snowball, Noran proceeded to take off his coat and draped it over the couch, then noticed his phone vibrating.

It was a call from Nigel.

Noran didn't hesitate to pick up his call, thinking it must have been important for his assistant to call him after work, "Nigel?"

However, instead of the usual polite greeting, Noran heard a faint, strained voice come through the line, "H-Help... Help me..."

Noran tightened his grip on the phone. "Nigel, what's happening?"

The connection crackled, and Nigel's voice came through again, weaker this time. "Please... help..."

Noran's heart raced as the call abruptly ended. He stared at his phone, a sense of dread washing over him. He tried calling Nigel again, but he couldn't get through.

Shuri noticed his change in demeanor and walked over, concern etched on her face.

"Ran, what happened?" she asked softly.

Noran, not wanting to scare Shuri, softened his expression and said, "There's something urgent at work that I need to attend to."

Before Shuri could reply, Noran walked past her, went to the door, and opened it.

Karlene's hand was lifted, about to bang on the door again.

She froze in mid-motion, then exclaimed angrily, "You finally opened the door!"

Noran ignored her and looked past her to Roy, who was standing behind Karlene with an air of amusement now replaced by concern.

"Something's happened to Nigel."

"What?" Roy's expression turned serious.

It was rare to see Noran displaying such urgency.

"Have someone track where he is. Now," Noran instructed firmly.

"Right away."

Roy didn't hesitate and quickly contacted their intel team, understanding the gravity of the situation from Noran's tone.

Meanwhile, Nigel felt a blow strike the back of his head, sending his phone clattering to the ground.

The last thing he heard was Noran's voice echoing through the phone, "Nigel, what's happening?"

Nigel groaned as he was dragged through the dimly lit hallway.

His head throbbed painfully from the injury he sustained during the ambush. The man holding him was rough, his grip unforgiving as he hauled him to their destination.

The door swung open to reveal a large, eerie basement. The room was dimly lit by a single flickering bulb hanging from the ceiling, casting long, sinister shadows across the walls.

In the center of the room stood Sigmund, his expression calm yet menacing.

"Leave him here," Sigmund commanded, his voice cold and authoritative.

The captor released Nigel, letting him fall to the ground with a thud.

Nigel tried to steady himself, his vision swimming as he looked up at Sigmund.

The man before him exuded an aura of control and malevolence that sent chills down Nigel's spine.

"Welcome, Mr. Miles," Sigmund said with a twisted smile. "Let's have a little chat, shall we?"

Sigmund's eyes glinted with a dangerous light as he approached Nigel. He placed a hand on Nigel's shoulder, his grip tightening painfully.

Nigel winced but remained silent, his mind racing with thoughts of escape.

"From now on, you will tell me everything I ask truthfully," Sigmund began, his words wrapping around Nigel's mind like a vice.

Nigel's eyes glazed over, his will crumbling under the pressure of Sigmund's power. "Yes... Everything truthfully," he echoed, his voice monotone.

"Why did you order your men to pursue me?"

Nigel's response was immediate, devoid of hesitation. "It was an order from my boss."

Sigmund's smile widened. "And who is your boss, Mr. Miles?"

"Ran Lee, the chairman of Paragon."

Sigmund's eyes narrowed with interest. "Ran Lee, you say?"

He leaned closer, his face inches from Nigel's. "Why does the chairman of Paragon want to pursue me?"

"I don't know," Nigel replied, his voice flat.

Sigmund's eyes narrowed. "Tell me more about Ran Lee."

Nigel's face lit up with an almost eerie admiration. "Ran Lee is really... handsome... incredibly intelligent and always calm under pressure. His hobby... is drawing... he's a very talented pianist... a brilliant strategist... and always knows how to handle... difficult situations..."

Sigmund's patience began to wear thin as Nigel continued to shower his boss with praise. "His leadership skills are unmatched. Everyone at Paragon respects and admires him..."

Sigmund rolled his eyes, clearly frustrated.

"Enough!" he snapped, cutting Nigel off mid-sentence.

The information, though painting a vivid picture of Ran Lee's character, was utterly useless to him.

Then he thought, why waste time extracting information about Ran Lee through his assistant? Wouldn't it be better to lure the man himself out instead?

Sigmund's eyes glinted with a dark excitement as he pondered the possibilities.

Having the chairman of Paragon as his puppet would be a crowning achievement, a trophy for his sinister collection.

He imagined the power he could wield with Ran Lee under his control, even envisioning a scenario where he could take over Paragon itself.

The idea of retaliation against the man who had targeted him was too enticing to pass up.

He knew it wouldn't be easy to approach and kidnap such a high-profile individual, especially one as enigmatic and well-protected as the chairman of Paragon.

But with Nigel, his assistant, as a pawn, he saw an opportunity to lower Ran Lee's guard and get closer to him.

Sigmund was no stranger to using underhanded means to acquire his puppets.

Since he was young, he had perfected various methods to ensnare his targets, and with his power evolving as he aged, he felt more confident in expanding his collection with premium additions.

His mind raced with plans and strategies, each more devious than the last. Finally, he settled on a course of action and turned to Nigel, who stood before him, eyes vacant and obedient under Sigmund's control.

"Very well, Mr. Miles, you have a new task," Sigmund said, his tone icy and commanding. "I need you to bait your boss out."

Nigel nodded mechanically, his voice monotone and devoid of emotion. "Yes, I will do as you say."
