“Your base is a bus?!”

The scene confused the students. The bloody patterns on the bus and the strange figurines around it lent the place a strange allure.

“The passengers on the bus are so strange. They all wear masks. The people in red clothes are so scary. I fear they might suddenly turn to look at us.” Fang Tao hid at the back.

“Mr Gao, how long do you plan to rest here?” Teacher Lee checked her phone, which had no signal, and followed behind Gao Ming. She was anxious. “We’ve left the town for a while already. Why don’t we take the main road? We might run into people who can help us.”

“Are you that desperate to leave?” Gao Ming paused. “Are you afraid that I might harm you?’

Teacher Lee shook her head quickly, but her expression betrayed her.

“I don’t know what Wei Tian told you in the end, but there is one undeniable truth. Only I can help you now. Therefore, I hope that you trust me.” Gao Ming entered his bloody bus. The gazes looked at him through the gaps in the masks.

“Do not speak and do not move. Don’t cause any chain reactions.” Gao Ming walked to the side of the passenger on the second row. He hauled him up lightly. “You’ll drive the bus.”

The passenger was about Gao Ming’s size. He took his hands out of the pockets of his red shirt and held the steering wheel.

“Follow me closely! If you’re slow, you might face a horrible end!” Gao Ming held the masked man by his shoulders. He wanted to say more when Teacher Lee’s voice came from the door.

“Are they your friends?” Teacher Lee wanted to get to know Gao Ming more since she was responsible for her students. She only placed her feet on the step and hadn’t gotten into the bus when she was hit by a chilly wind. Her leg seemed to have frozen. Her blood flowed slower. She forgot how to breathe at that moment. She felt so cold, like her soul had been turned into ice.

“What kind of monsters are on this car?”

The fear was only felt when one got onto the bus. Every ‘person’ on this bus radiated intense death and despair. Each of them could trigger an anomaly. Light warmth came from her palm as Gao Ming held Teacher Lee’s hand to guide her out of the bus. “Teacher, do not enter my bus casually. People might die.”

Teacher Lee shivered and almost fell to the ground. Her lips were white. She said nothing and hurried back to the school bus. She told her students to stay away from the other bus.

Gao Ming smiled and watched everything. He signalled for the masked passengers to take the mud figurines and place them back onto the bus. Then, the bus engine initiated. After that, he picked up the fire basin made from an altar and returned to Class 13’s bus.

“Hasn’t Teacher Lee been urging me?” Gao Ming placed the basin and took the driver’s seat. “We’ll depart now. We’ll follow the main road and drive the students home.”

The flame from the camp was moved to the car. Gao Ming casually took out a stack of black-and-white death portraits and handed them over to Teacher Lee. “When you notice the flame is about to go out, drop a death portrait into the basin.”

Teacher Lee felt like the people in the portraits were staring at her. She could even hear some of them pleading, “They are looking at me! Their eyes are moving! What are these?”

“Haven’t I told you? They are death portraits. They are portraits left behind by the dead.” Without explaining it further, Gao Ming stepped on the pedal. The flame chased away the darkness in the bus and the nearby mist. Gao Ming directed the bus onto the main road. He didn’t need any navigation because he had been to the destination many times already. With each of his rebirths, Xuan Wen would carry him out of this tunnel. Even if the path were obstructed by the mist, he would know the way, like the back of his palm.

“The students of Class 13 accidentally entered this place through the tunnel. The gap that leads towards the real truth calculated by Granny Shen should be there too.” Gao Ming was certain of his target from the very beginning. He prepared everything before entering the black mist.

The flame flickered. The bus quieted down. Some prayed while others neared Shen Tuxiao to exchange notes with her. Some looked at the night sky.

The black mist thickened. The mist mixed with the night. Occasional giant shadows flashed past the bus. Even though they weren’t clear, the oppressive feeling they gave off was real.

The leaves fluttered in the wind. A red moon stared at them from the top of the mist. If the red moon didn’t blink a few times, the passengers would mistake it for a real moon. The road winded about like a snake. The bus bounced on the road. Looking from the back window, one would think the bus had cut wounds on the road.

The black mist world was different from the students’ real world. Even Gao Ming felt the place was scary. It was a horror that was more realistic than any nightmare.

The bus rushed towards the end of the city, where the night rose.

The city horizon was left behind. Even with the flame and his strong constitution, this was not easy for Gao Ming. He could hear the mumblings in the night. Death and despair were like stars in the sky. The starlight fell on him. An indescribable force wanted him to turn around. The force didn’t come from the outside. It came from his body, soul and brain. It was as if when Gao Ming was created, his creator left behind an order inside his body that forbade him from leaving Han Hai.

Thankfully, Gao Ming had died many times in the past, or else he couldn’t have resisted the call of his instincts.

The bus was like a blade that cut through the night. The black mist undulated like waves. The skyscrapers fell off.

Gao Ming was very close to the edge of the city. The mist there was extremely thick. It was like a black mist on the ground.

Gao Ming’s heart pounded. This was the first time he was so close to the truth!

He would reach a place no one from Han Hai had been before and verify the hypotheses in his mind!

“We’re about to leave Han Hai soon!”

Han Hai was surrounded by the sea on three sides. The only path connected to the outside world was a small tunnel. The tunnel was the borderline between Han Hai, Jiujiang and Xin Lu.

There were two paths to leave. One was to abandon the bus and enter the mountains through the small road; Two was to keep on following the main road, enter the tunnel and leave Han Hai!
