House of The Dragon-A God Amongst Men-Chapter 209: A Maiden III

(Third Person POV)

[King's Landing]

"Your Grace." Septon Barth approached Jaehaerys, who sat in his seat in the Small Council table, "Word has reached from the Riverlands, the fighting has eased down and the Duskguard have settled down in a defensive position."

Jaehaerys frowned, "What?" He said, "That is strange. There is no way Drakken would stop the spread of his warring....which are the Houses that have survived him, still loyal to the Faith?"

"From what we know, none." Septon Barth, "Save for House Tully which is still under siege. The others have given in to the Trinity, those traitors. House Tully is starving and has requested for aid, it appears the Duskguard are teasing them."

He handed Jaehaerys a letter which was sent by Lord Tully.

"This is unlike Drakken." Jaehaerys said, "The fact that the Duskguard allowed them to send a message out is unheard of. They are ruthless, methodical, and do not let anything slip by. This was intentional."

"What are you saying?" Barth asked

"This is Drakken's plan." Jaehaerys frowned, "He wishes to provoke us....he wishes to provoke the Faith in making the next move. He must be aware that the Houses that are loyal to the Faith have conspired to attack House Blackwood. I told you, Barth, do not make bold moves."

Barth placed his hand on his chin, "If by a Loyal Decree, we call the banners of the North down, that won't be much help due to the Duskguard's control of the Twins. Not only that...." He said, "The entire Neck will be closed off by Duskguard presence. It will be a difficult thing to do..."

"Baelon told me of his plan." Jaehaerys said, "He wanted to place the entire Crownlands under a siege, leaving the sea and air clear as an obvious provocation."

"Do you truly think that this plan of his would work?" Barth asked, "What would he gain from this?"

"Drakken is full of schemes and plots." The King said, "He is a self-proclaimed god of war. He clearly knows how to handle battle tactics at such a large scale. This all part of his methodical chaos, his plan....he intends to do something...."

"The....." Barth said, "The patrols of that night....they were unsuccessful. We could not find the Shrine. But we did execute several Trinity worshippers."

Jaehaerys's face hardened, "That was not a good move, Barth." he said, "The people will take note of this. The Faith's extreme actions will be met with a response, you know that, Barth. I have stood aside from this. If it goes any further, I will have to do something about it."

"We need to purge these cultists from our city." Barth said seriously, "If we let them spread Drakken's influence, it will be all of us who will suffer, Your Grace. You are well aware of that."

"Keep yourself in check." Jaehaerys warned, "Otherwise, the repercussions will be dire."

Barth nodded, "Of course." He said, "I understand."

Jaehaerys stood up, "I will send a letter to Drakken." He said, "I will tell him to make his intentions known. I know he plans for someone to start a provocation, solely for the goal of sparking the flames of war. It is what he thrives on, the chaos, the bloodshed...."

"He is that kind of man."

"Have you snuck out again, Viserra??" Alyssa whispered as she walked inside her sister's chambers, "You will get caught!"

"No, it is fine." Viserra said as she held a couple of pages, "Look at this. These are pages that Ezra gave me, scriptures that he wrote."

She placed them on the table and showed Alyssa, who stood next to her. The pages were written in black in and they had several writings along with symbols drawn at the bottom and top of the pages.

"What am I looking at?" Alyssa asked

"It states how Drakken came to the Realm." Viserra said, "It is said that-"

"He fell from the stars." Alyssa cut her off, "Viserra, I remember when that happened. I was your age when it did."

"Oh, really?" Viserra asked with a surprised expression

Alyssa nodded, "Yes." She said, "You were so young back then. A babe, I think. I met him here in the Dragonpit, he choked me with his bare hand. Baelon stabbed him in the back. That is the reason he is very hostile with him."

"I see..." Viserra said, "Well, do you know what the Star was made of?"

Alyssa frowned, "What?"

"It is said that the Star was made out of this thing.....called Ether." Viserra said

"Ether?" Alyssa said, "What is that?"

"I don't know." Viserra said, "It is not explained. But Drakken came from the stars, from another realm, it says....he was imprisoned by something....something more vile than he is...."

"It says that?" Alyssa leaned in and read the writing, "Imprisoned, you say?"

Viserra nodded, "He broke out and ended up here." She whispered, "And when he hit the ground, his True Form lost control. It is said that the entire realm heard the roar of an everlasting dragon."

Alyssa narrowed her eyes, "That night...." She said softly, "All of the dragons in the pit, including Balerion, began to roar in response to something.....we later found out it was Drakken...."

"Since then, he built his power up with the ability to drain dragon magic." Viserra said, "Or something of that nature. But here....look at this...."

She switched a page and showed Alyssa a page that had several writings and some symbols at the bottom.

"What is this?" Alyssa asked

"A prophecy of some kind. A vision of the future." Viserra said, "It appears that Ezra has what they call the Greensight....and during the Ritual....he had his sight empowered....and he saw a glimpse of the future...."

"The future?" Alyssa asked, "W-What do you mean?"

"The Great War." Viserra whispered, "A War so massive and destructive that it will bring everything to ruins....but from its ashes, new and better life will sprout....to bring about peace and prosperity, everything needs to be washed with Chaos."

"Chaos....." Alyssa said softly, "Drakken never kept his mouth shut about that word....what could it mean?"

"Chaos....isn't just metaphorical..." Viserra said

"What do you mean?" Alyssa asked her

"I don't know." Viserra looked at her, "I don't understand it either. Ezra kept rambling that same sentence this one night."

"Does...." Alyssa frowned, "Is it deeper than just that word; Chaos?"

"I would assume so." Viserra nodded

"It appears that Drakken is even more mysterious than we'd taken him for...." Alyssa said as she looked at the pages, "You should keep these hidden. If anyone finds out about this....."

"I don't know what could happen."
