I Am the Only Fertile Woman in the Game-Chapter 255: The Dust Settles
Ruka looked at her continuously shaking her head, eyes brimming with tears that fell as she moved, making her even more pitiable.
"Kill the leader, because in every timeline, he ruthlessly decimates the Rebel Army and everyone else. Kill Carl because Sang Yan discovered in the first timeline that he was a traitor who continually informed on them, which indirectly led to everyone’s death and his father’s."
As she spoke, she gently lowered her head, not daring to meet their eyes, and murmured with downcast eyes, "I killed them. If you are disappointed in me... I accept it, but I have no regrets..."
"How could we be disappointed in you?" Leberli stepped forward and took her hand, then lifted her chin to raise her head, "Suisui, you made the best decision, and it’s because of your decision that we have today, isn’t it?"
Ruka stroked her hair and smiled gently at her, eyes filled with guilt, "I’m just disappointed in myself for letting you go through all this alone..."
Zong Fang had been suppressing his overwhelming emotions since earlier; now speaking with a hoarse voice and weary expression, full of heartache and anger about her secrecy but helpless in his words, "If anyone should be disappointed, it should be you first in me. I should have thought of it sooner, at least should’ve ensured Zong Yan’s situation was taken care of."
Anubis had been standing by her side all along. Head bowed, hands clenched into fists at his sides, "I should have thought of it... why didn’t I realize..." He and his father had even been devastated for a long time after Dr. Li was shot. "Suisui, I’m useless."
Seeing them one by one comfort her, Qiao Suisui’s wet eyelashes trembled slightly before she calmly asked, "Do you really have no other thoughts about this... like maybe I... am not the same naive and fragile person you remember from the beginning... not entirely the me who has lived with you over these past ten years?"
Though both are indeed her, how could they possibly be exactly the same?
The Qiao Suisui in this timeline had never experienced parting and death; she had always been well-protected, confident, and cherished. Unlike the version of her who fought with her bare hands time after time and continually experienced loss, her attitudes and responses to things were different.
She had already well merged the memories, and now, she wouldn’t dwell on which version of herself they loved more, but some things still needed to be made clear.
"I am no longer the person in your hearts who needs protection; I can protect myself and have managed to protect the ones I love. If you feel my actions or behavior make you no longer fond—"
Zong Fang fiercely covered her mouth with his lips before she could continue, his tongue prying her teeth apart and teasing her tongue. As he ended the kiss, he deliberately nipped her lower lip just as they were about to part.
"Don’t even think about using that as an excuse to leave me," Zong Fang said breathlessly.
Qiao Suisui’s lips were rosy red, stunned by his sudden kiss, "That’s not what I meant..."
"Then what do you mean?" Carl leaned against the wall, his expression slightly irritated as he glared at her, "Your wings are stiff, and you look down on us now?"
Qiao Suisui touched her forehead, "No."
A deep laugh came from the man’s chest. Qiao Suisui turned her head to see Ruka laughing, hearing him say, "Suisui, don’t say things like that anymore." His fingers gently touched her cheek, then brushed past her eyelashes, wiping away a tear, "I am very clear about who, and what kind of person, I love; I just hope you can grow up slower and preferably not experience that pain."
Qiao Suisui looked at Ruka, a smile slowly spreading across her face, and she couldn’t help but wrap her arms around his neck, Ruka also embracing her into his hold.
Afterward, under the ’interrogation’ of several men, Qiao Suisui had basically laid everything out clearly.
She described everything that had happened on each timeline, what happened after her first timeline slumber, everything she saw upon her return, and even the fact that this was all part of a game world.
However, each man focused on different details. Ruka was particularly concerned about why she had died because of Anubis’s death, viewing it as a significant risk, thus he insisted on clarifying that; Carl, after understanding everything, kept asking what exactly happened during those 30 minutes, how she managed it, and then, upon hearing that this was not her first time killing someone, having already killed Wei Shou in another timeline with an M40, he suddenly perked up, praising how well she told this bedtime story.
Anubis spoke the least among them; during the whole process, his most common phrases were, "Can we stop now?" "No more questions, please," "Let her rest a bit," "She has said a lot already," and so forth. He kept trying to communicate with Zong Fang through eye contact: She is still pregnant, stop them, will you?
Leberli took the approach of "they care whether you fly high, only I care whether you’re tired from flying," and after every question the other men asked, he would interject, "The baby must have been very upset then," "Was it scary?" "See, only I make you worry the least"... Yet his face turned a mixture of dark and pale upon hearing how he had madly attacked other countries after her sleep, and especially upon learning that in another timeline Zong Fang had killed him outright, his expression was exceptionally ’colorful.’
But Qiao Suisui could barely handle all of it, with Zong Fang being the most terrifying part.
"So, you met Lanze too?"
"Then what? Knowing that Sang Yan has been guarding you for so long, you felt touched?"
"What happened after you left this world?"
"Oh... you have a younger brother..."
"Besides that, are there other men in your world?"
By the end, Qiao Suisui’s forehead was starting to perspire. She took Anubis’s hand, pretending to be somewhat exhausted, and said, "I don’t know if it’s because of the pregnancy, but I’m always feeling sleepy."
Anubis, hearing this, became very anxious and wouldn’t let Zong Fang continue questioning her. Finally, Ruka spoke up, and the others, including Zong Fang, didn’t say anything more.
After they all left, Qiao Suisui finally breathed a sigh of relief.
She began to carefully look around the sleeping quarters she now resided in, noting some changes from her previous time at the Imperial Court, though her preferences were quite consistent. She aimlessly familiarized herself with everything in the room, and while passing by an antique carved wooden cabinet, something came to her mind.
Based on her memory, she opened the third drawer from the bottom and took out a thick album, which she then carefully flipped open.
Page by page, the pages fluttered in the breeze, and the people in the drawings seemed to come to life.
She caressed the drawings, then suddenly, a ’thud’—a letter fell from the album to the floor.
Qiao Suisui picked it up, seeing on the envelope—
To my future self.
