I Am The Swarm-Chapter 800: Awaiting Revelation

In the early stages of the war, the Swarm had once relied on its unique technological path to gain massive advantages in intelligence gathering. But now, after nearly three hundred years of war with both the Interstellar Technological Confederation and the Ji Race, much of the data had already been uncovered or extrapolated.

This included one key fact: the maximum troop production rate per Star System for the Swarm.

To achieve such extreme mass production, Swarm combat units had to develop within Close Stellar Orbit.

And environments near stellar orbits, being completely exposed, were easy to observe. With the Ji Race’s level of technology, they could observe across dozens of light-years with ease.

Thus, based on Ji and Confederation race’s calculations, each Swarm Star Gate could handle two to three Star Systems’ worth of extreme troop production.

Though the Swarm’s territory had expanded rapidly, most of it remained newly conquered zones, still focused on mining and establishing sub-hives. These zones couldn’t support mass production yet.

With nearly three thousand Star Gates active in Swarm territory, the swarm’s current domain simply couldn’t support full-scale operation. In the past, the Swarm might have been able to split its forces and sustain pressure across multiple fronts. But now, the Ji Race had undergone a massive upgrade, increasing their production rates severalfold. If the Swarm spread its troops now, it would be a self-inflicted defeat, likely leading to catastrophic losses on the main battlefield.

Moreover, this latest batch of Swarm-built Star Gates—reportedly more than ten thousand—were massive constructs with no immediate combat application. Wasn’t this just an enormous waste of resources?

But the Swarm was no fool. They would never do something so brainless. All the races realized the same thing: the Swarm must be about to play one of its trump cards.

Though the Swarm had been revealed to be sneaky and underhanded, compared to the Ji Race’s indiscriminate and aggressive tactics, the Swarm now seemed almost… likable by comparison.

So, if they had to pick a winner between the Ji Race and the Swarm, the races would still side with the Swarm.

Thus, when the Swarm moved to reveal its trump card, their hearts tensed in anticipation.

The Swarm—or rather, Luo Wen—was indeed ready to show a new trump card.

Unlike the Ji Race, the Swarm had, through its Fold Crossing technology, already developed a substantial presence in other galaxies. Luo Wen had believed that this Swarm force would be more than enough to defeat the Confederation and conquer the Ji Race. At worst, he could retreat behind the scenes as a silent harvester.

But now, with the Ji Race actively destroying everything, Luo Wen had no choice but to bring off-board forces into play.

By combining Star Gate technology with the Fold Crossing Skill, Luo Wen had developed a new ultra-long-range Star Gate. Powered by a new kind of stellar war bug, these gates could link locations across unknowable light-year distances.

In Swarm territory, several such gates had already been completed near various stars. They differed slightly from normal Star Gates, but only those deeply familiar with them could discern the difference.

The stars hosting these gates were completely wrapped in Fungal Carpet, as though swallowed by massive entities—no light escaped, not even a glimmer.

Powerful energy surged forth. Pale blue biolamps began to flicker, while mysterious dark purple runes shimmered across the surface. The void trembled as space connected and linked. From an unknown galaxy, the Swarm’s warriors stepped into this battlefield for the first time—beginning their campaign.

Endless combat units swarmed out from the Star Gates. They would pass through a series of other gates, then arrive at their assigned warfronts.

And such mega-structures were not few in number—within Swarm territory, over a hundred of them existed.

This time, the Swarm made no effort to hide them—nor could they. The powerful energy pulses they emitted could be detected even from dozens or hundreds of light-years away.

“Where are the Swarm’s troops coming from?” The observers were baffled by this sudden development. Questions exploded in their minds, demanding answers.

“Could they be hiding inside planets?” One suggested a seemingly reasonable guess.

“No way!” Snother refuted it immediately.

“Why not?”

“Are you stupid? These gates are outputting so many units every day, if you calculate the volume, it would be enough to fill two entire planets. You’re saying that much mass was hidden inside planets? Think!”

“True. That volume of troops can’t be hidden in just one or two Star Systems. But we haven’t detected any major troop build-ups either.”

“Exactly. And a Star Gate must link two places. Yet we still haven’t figured out where those reinforcements are coming from.”

“Maybe the Swarm is just really good at hiding.”

“At this current deployment rate, to supply such massive forces, they’d need a vast amount of territory. And with every day of deployment, that hidden territory must be growing. To hide that much in this Galaxy? Unless every reconnaissance unit we and the Ji Race have has been wiped out.”

“Yeah, and our scouts aren’t taking that blame.”

“So this… is the Swarm’s trump card? Honestly, it’s a bit terrifying.”

“This proves the Swarm is far scarier than we thought.”

“Yeah. If this Galaxy can’t possibly house those forces, then it means… they’re from outside this Galaxy.”

“Remember the earliest theories about the Swarm’s origins?”

“That they inherited the legacy of an ancient civilization?”

“No, that theory was fed to us by the Ji Race. We had our own theory back then.”

“You mean—?”

“Yes. Our earliest hypothesis was that the Swarm was a branch of a powerful civilization, or even an advance force.”

“That’s right! I remember now. That’s why all the races were initially so cautious when dealing with them. It wasn’t until the Ji Race claimed the Swarm was just a lucky inheritor that we relaxed. Looks like… the Ji Race lied to us.”

“But why would they do that?”

“Hmph. What’s hard to understand? Before now, could any of us have imagined the Ji Race would turn into what it has become?”

“…”

“Enough. No use dwelling on the past. Given what we see now, the idea that the Swarm is a branch of a powerful civilization has become highly likely. Which means… the real Swarm has begun to intervene.”

“No doubt. Those specialized Star Gates must link across unimaginably vast distances. This is terrifying—a fledgling branch, already this powerful despite being surrounded by enemies. I can’t imagine how powerful the main body must be.”

“Perhaps… we’ll find out soon.”

“Then let’s watch… and wait.”
