I Got Reincarnated as a Zombie Girl-Chapter 78 – A City Full of Fur
Chapter 78: Chapter 78 – A City Full of Fur
My steps were firm as I approached the large wooden gates that surrounded this Werewolf town. I didn’t hide, nor did I conceal my presence. There was no reason to. The weak would flee, the foolish would try to fight, and the rest... would soon learn who I really was.
As soon as the two guards saw me approaching, their reactions were swift. One of them immediately raised a large wooden spear tipped with black metal. The other let out a loud howl, calling for reinforcements from within the town. Their ears stood upright, their eyes glowing with alertness.
But it was all in vain.
With a single flick of my hand, a black chain whirred out from beneath the sleeve of my gown. Its serrated tip shot forward like a venomous snake, impaling them both mercilessly. They were lifted into the air briefly before crashing lifelessly to the ground.
I stepped forward, undisturbed. I reached out my hand, and with one powerful strike, the wooden gates shattered into pieces. Fragments of wood scattered across the entranceway. The sound of the destruction echoed throughout the town, drawing the attention of every resident.
A few seconds later, panicked screams began to rise from within.
The Werewolves near the gate turned and froze. Their faces went pale, their ears drooping in fear. Not one of them raised a weapon. Instead, they turned and ran as fast as they could, crashing into each other in their desperate attempt to flee.
I raised an eyebrow, a bit surprised.
"Hmm... I thought they’d attack me right away," I muttered, watching the small chaos unfold. "Turns out they’re running away like frightened chicks."
But the uproar didn’t last long.
A few minutes later, the sound of heavy footsteps echoed from the direction of the town center. I turned, spotting a group of Werewolves different from the ones before. Their bodies were larger and more muscular, their fur neatly trimmed.
They stopped about fifteen meters in front of me and let out a fierce howl. But it wasn’t just an ordinary howl they were speaking, a series of words in a harsh, guttural language, laced with animalistic growls.
I narrowed my eyes, ready to strike first... until a soft yet clear voice broke the tension.
"Please wait!" the voice called from the side. freeweɓnovel.cøm
A girl emerged from behind the group of Werewolves, and the others seemed to make way for her. She walked quickly, but not in a rush. As if she knew her actions were risky, but moved forward with confidence nonetheless.
Her hair was long and silver, cascading freely down her back. Her face was gentle, almost like an ordinary human’s, but the triangular ears atop her head and the long furry tail behind her made it clear what she was. The clothes she wore were elegant and modest, like those of a young noblewoman.
"Forgive us if we angered you," she said calmly yet firmly.
I turned toward her, a little surprised. "Oh? You can make me understand your language?"
She nodded, offering a faint smile. "Yes. It’s one of my skills. I can speak many tongues human, elf, dwarf, and... your kind."
"Interesting," I muttered.
I retracted my black chain, letting it slide back slowly into the sleeve of my elegant gown. They could take it as a gesture of peace and that was exactly what I intended, for now.
"Since you asked for peace, I’ll grant it," I said, folding my arms. "But I want information. About this place."
She nodded again, her expression calm. "Of course. If you’re willing, I’ll bring you to my home and explain everything there."
And so we walked together, leaving the main street that was now beginning to fill with armed Werewolves too hesitant to come closer. The girl walked ahead of me, and I followed with graceful steps. My Witch and Hunter trailed silently behind, keeping their distance.
As we passed wooden homes and stone buildings that looked old yet clean, I asked, "Why do you look different from the others?"
She turned slightly, replying politely, "Because I’m a female Lycanthrope. Our forms are indeed different from the males."
"I see..." I nodded in understanding. "So, are women dominant here?"
"Yes," she replied gently. "Our structure places females as leaders in many areas. Not only because of strength, but also our ability to manage, communicate, and... endure."
I couldn’t help but smile faintly. "What an interesting world."
Before long, we arrived at a large house in the center of the town. The building resembled an old European-style villa, with tall windows and a small garden beside it. As we entered, the scent of herbal flowers greeted me.
"Please, have a seat," she said, gesturing toward a plush sofa draped in white fabric.
I sat down gracefully, letting my gown flow over my legs. The Witch and Hunter remained by the door, silent.
The girl walked toward a small kitchen in the corner of the room. "I’ll prepare some tea. Please wait a moment."
I leaned back against the sofa, calmly observing the room. The walls were adorned with landscape paintings and family photos. There was a warmth to this place... something I didn’t expect to find among Werewolves.
"Funny," I muttered to myself, barely believing it. "They look like monsters... but live like humans."
The soft clink of dishes and a kettle could be heard from the kitchen, while my eyes slowly closed for a moment.
Perhaps... this town would be more interesting than I thought.
A short while later, the Lycanthrope girl returned to the living room, this time accompanied by three female attendants. All of them looked graceful in their simple yet clean and tidy attire. They carried a silver tray containing a teapot of warm tea, two porcelain cups adorned with delicate carvings, and a few small snacks that looked like herbal cookies and slices of dried fruit.
One of the attendants poured tea into my cup with a gentle and respectful motion, followed by another who served their mistress. After finishing, they bowed deeply and stepped back quietly, leaving the two of us alone in polite silence.
I didn’t show the slightest concern. Even if this tea were poisoned, my evolved body far surpassed that of any normal living being. Standard toxins would have no effect on me. So without hesitation, I lifted the cup and took a slow sip.
The aroma of herbal leaves blended with a soft sweetness that welcomed my tongue. The warmth spread through my throat, and for a moment... I genuinely enjoyed the sensation.
"Quite a pleasant tea," I said as I placed the cup back on the table, my voice calm but filled with genuine praise.
For some reason, the girl in front of me seemed slightly relieved after hearing that. The subtle tension in her shoulders eased, and she returned my words with a gentle, sincere smile.
"Thank you," she said softly. Then she adjusted her sitting posture and began the conversation. "So... how did you end up here?"
The question was simple, yet it made me fall silent for a moment. I gazed at her, trying to figure out whether she truly didn’t know... or was testing me.
"A portal," I finally replied. "It suddenly appeared in my territory. Your kind came out of it... before that, there was another portal that opened, releasing forces of another race. I... chased them, followed their trail, and ended up in this place."
Her expression froze for a moment. "A portal...? So... this really isn’t the same world."
I crossed my legs elegantly and looked at her meaningfully. "That’s what I thought too. There’s no way my place and this one are part of the same world. Unless..."
"...someone or something created a bridge between the two," she finished my sentence. "And now, foreign races are beginning to arrive in our territory..."
I simply nodded, observing her expression. Her eyes were serious, but still composed. She didn’t panic like her people outside. This woman clearly held an important position possibly a leader of this city.
"If I may ask," I continued, "is everyone in this city just ordinary Werewolves? I haven’t seen any other Lycanthropes besides you."
She nodded slowly. "Correct. The noble Lycanthropes, both male and female, reside in the main territory deeper inside, far from the border regions like this city. We who live here... are something like sentinels and outer managers. We monitor activities, maintain order, and welcome or repel wandering beings and other races who arrive."
"So this is a border city," I muttered, leaning back. "And you... what’s your position?"
"I am the mayor here," she replied politely. "My name is Velthya Varn, daughter of the Varn family, one of the main Lycanthrope clans."
"Velthya," I repeated, committing the name to memory. "I’m Sylvia."
She gave a small smile. "A beautiful name... and intimidating."
I smiled faintly. "I thought it was clear from the beginning that I’m not an ordinary being."
"Indeed," Velthya nodded slightly. "And that’s precisely why I chose to speak with you. If it wasn’t me... this city might have already become a sea of blood."
"And I think you’re smart enough to avoid that," I replied casually, "because if not... this city really would’ve turned into a sea of blood."
For a moment, silence enveloped the room. The tea in the cups began to cool, and the attendants waited quietly outside the room like shadows. Velthya looked at me again, her gaze now more open a mixture of fear, respect, and curiosity.
"What... is your goal in coming to this place? If you’re chasing the portal, why not just return after arriving?"
"Because I’m simply curious," I answered flatly. Then I continued, "So... are there intelligent races in this world? Humans or others?"
Velthya replied, "There are humans, elves, dwarves, and many more. But we’re separated by islands."
I nodded. So the portal did lead to another world but for now, there are still boundaries for outsiders.
