Chapter 34 - 34: The Roof

A five-eyed raven circles around the Roof. Its 360-degree view scans every detail of the area.

A five-story-tall mansion with a giant glass door at the south, leading to the backyard and the pool.

A main entrance at the north, facing the front gate where Blaze is right now.

A small side door at the southeast that is completely shut.

There are no terraces on the second stories. Only several windows span all around the wall and are symmetrically distanced from each other.

The windows are small and rectangular. Not enough for anyone to go through and even have steel bars installed on it.

The third stories have bigger rooms, with each room housing a balcony and a big glass sliding door that can be looked inside.

The raven can even see some people getting it on in those rooms. Not all are consensual.

The fourth and fifth stories are where the true party and depravity are at. It combines together into a mini penthouse with the fifth floor acting as an outdoor roof bar.

People are having all kinds of wild shit in there. Drinking beer, taking questionable substances, and doing it.

Isaac can see most of the Awakeners on the roof.

There is Dimon, a huge guy with a dark skin tone, having a huge laugh with some of his pals.

But then a customer is having an argument with a girl there.

Dimon's expression turns stern immediately, and he disappears in a white smoke. Only to reappear next to the customer and slap the girl falling down to the floor.

Dimon then says something to the guy while having some people drag the poor woman away.

Slava, a bearded and skinny dude with blonde hair, is sitting on the sofa and stretching out his arms to the side, hugging both girls that are beside him.

There are a few Awakeners sitting with Slava, all watching a poor girl being tied up on the floor.

Slava occasionally sucks the air out of the poor girl to make her gasp for air, and once she is on the verge of suffocating, releases oxygen for her to breathe again.

A sick routine just to entertain his fellow 'friends' that are watching.

Sergei, the strongest of the five lieutenants, is the most ordinary. He's the only one that wears the pink tank top like the foot soldier.

Sergei sits beside the bar counter with a cigarette in his mouth, constantly watching the scene and gesturing the henchmen around if needed.

There are three lieutenants on the rooftop and a lot of Awakeners.

Not counting the customers, there are at least five more B-rank and around twenty C-rank. All the people that Isaac can recognize.

Now that he is officially on the other side of them, he can see the horror that he was contributing to outright.

Different from the other members of the Nocturnal Animals, Isaac never went to the Roof. He's only around where a job is present.

He needed the money, and that is all he cared about.

Good guy or bad guy was a blurred definition in Isaac's mind.

He was pragmatic about it.

He thought he was neither good nor bad. He was simply just a criminal. He harmed other people and gained a profit from it.

What happened to the people he harmed, however, was none of his business. Without him, there would be others who stepped up for the job.

But now, facing the reality of his action. The raven can't do anything but focus on his task.

His master is right. Nothing he does can change the past. But he will do his best for his redemption.

The raven flies around the Roof a few more times before lowering down to the fourth floor.

There is no more intel that can be gathered on the rooftop, and Isaac doesn't spot Alyson. He needs to locate her.

The fourth floor has all the walls made of glass. It has curtains to cover the interior, but most of them do not close it.

They like to do it publicly, it seems, and Isaac can very well see the inside.

All the girls are being violated there. Most are very cooperative.

Isaac had heard about this situation from William before. Only the good girls or the hot girls are allowed to serve customers on the fourth and fifth floors.

No Alyson on the fourth floor either, but there is someone else.

That is...

Isaac lands on the edge of the building and pokes his beak onto the glass wall.

Inside, a woman with white hair is being tied down to the bed. Her eyes are being covered by a black cloth.

She is the Pale Harpy. Somehow, she ends up here after the Void.

The last time Blaze saw her was when she was being blasted away due to the explosion at the stadium. She's still wearing her uniform at this moment.

"Who's there?"

The Pale Harpy speaks up, her voice shaking.

Isaac looks around. There is a window in this room, but he doesn't know if he can open it.

Wait a minute. I'm a ghost, for God's sake. I don't need a door.

Isaac suddenly remembers he is already dead. His body turned back to the yellow fireball and phased through the glass material.

He turns back to the raven inside, jumping up to the bed, and uses his beak to pull the black eye cover out.

The Pale Harpy is startled and even more puzzled when she sees a bird on the bed.

"What are you?"

"Shhh! Quiet down!"

Isaac uses his tiny black feet to gesture shut up.

"I can feel that you are Master's servant. How are you here?"

The raven says.

The Pale Harpy's eyes open wide.

"Are you with him?"

"I am."

"Can you release me?! They are going to rape me any minute now!"

"I'll try."

Isaac looks around. On the girl's ankles and feet, there are some sorts of devices locked onto them. Black pieces of metal cuff.

It's probably a dampening device that's hindering the uses of her power as of this moment.

Isaac is somewhat familiar with this device. There is usually a master key somewhere.

He hops down from the bed and moves carefully to the doorway.

Outside the hallway, there are two guards. One is half asleep, while the other is standing next to a window to smoke.

The five red eyes blink rapidly, trying to locate the master key.

On the waist of the sleeping guard, a black rectangular piece of device is tucked into his pants. It looks similar to a remote but is half the size.

Bingo...

Isaac carefully walks to the guard.

Flying will cause too much noise, so he can only do this to avoid attracting attention.

When he comes under the guard, Isaac does a little hop and grabs his feet onto the back of the chair.

Even though it is an entirely different type of body from the one Isaac used to have, he feels incredibly familiar with it. It feels like he is actually a raven.

It helps him control the body really well, and he does not need to worry about getting used to it.

He slowly reaches his beak out to take the key.

"Huh?"

The guard suddenly jerks his head around.

Isaac freezes in motion, his red eyes all looking at the guard at the same time.

The guard makes some weird noises, then lowers his head again and continues sleeping.

Isaac continues pulling the key out. And it is a success.

He wastes no time to get back to the Pale Harpy and gets the key to her hand.

The Pale Harpy presses some random buttons until the cuff on her limbs releases. Energy feathers immediately appear and cut her restraint.

"Gah! Thank you, little bird! I'm getting out of here!"

"Wait! Master is here, and he has work to do. I strongly advise you to stay and help."

The Pale Harpy frowns and doesn't answer.

"I don't know how you become his servant, but he is not a forgiving being.

If he finds out you walk away, I cannot guarantee safety to you.

If he asks, I will have to say everything."

The Pale Harpy sighs.

"You're right. I'll help you. My name is Rae. What's yours?"

"Isaac."
