I Received System to Become Dragonborn-Chapter 767: Another Mission
The war was ending. The last remaining enemy fell, its metal frame shuddering before collapsing with a final lifeless thud. And then, as if released from a suffocating grip, a great cheer erupted across the battlefield.
"YAAAAAHHHH!!!"
"WOOOAAAAHHHH!!!"
…
It was not just a celebration, it was a cry of victory that came from the depths of their souls. Voices that had been strained with fear now roared with triumph and hearts that had been heavy with despair now soared with relief.
Some warriors fell to their knees, overwhelmed by the sheer weight of the moment. Others embraced their comrades, gripping each other tightly as if to confirm that they were truly still alive.
Tears flowed freely. Some cried for joy, others for the comrades they had lost.
Despite the gruesome sight of abominations of combined metal and flesh piled in heaps around them, despite the scorched earth and the lingering smell of blood and burnt steel, the Elves were happy. They had won.
The damage to the palace was evident. The great white walls that had once stood impenetrable for centuries had been scarred. Massive cracks ran along their surface and entire sections had collapsed where the enemy's relentless assault had struck hardest.
The protective Magic barrier that had shielded them for generations was now gone, leaving the once-pristine stronghold vulnerable for the first time in history.
Yet, as they surveyed the destruction, the Elves realized it was not as devastating as they had feared. The palace's inner sanctum remained mostly intact, untouched by the worst of the battle.
The walls still stood. Its battered but unbroken. And most importantly, their kingdom still stood.
Still, the cost of victory was felt. Among the fallen were warriors who had fought with unwavering courage, their bodies now lying motionless amidst the wreckage. Their sacrifice had ensured the survival of their people, and their names would be honored for generations to come.
Amidst the aftermath, Aurdis arrived with the royal healers. Without hesitation, they moved toward King Gulben and Saeldir.
The king, though unconscious, was still alive, his body exhausted but not beyond saving. Saeldir, though drained of strength, managed to raise his head at Aurdis' approach. Relief flickered in his weary eyes as she knelt beside him.
"Take them back to the palace," Aurdis ordered softly.

The healers nodded and carefully lifted King Gulben onto a stretcher formed of enchanted vines, carrying him toward safety.
Saeldir, though reluctant, allowed himself to be supported as they guided him back.
Eccar finally descended, landing among the warriors who had fought so fiercely. He watched the battlefield, his sharp eyes taking in the sight of victory and the destruction that came with it.
Erend returned to his side soon after, his wings folding as he landed beside Eccar. He met his gaze and in that silent exchange, Eccar understood that this war was over, but another battle was already on the horizon.
For now, however, they would let the Elves have this moment. Let them celebrate, let them mourn, let them breathe. But for them, there's no rest.
"What is it?" Eccar asked.
Erend let out a heavy breath before glancing up. "Follow me."
Eccar followed him into the sky, their wings unfolding as they hovered above the battlefield. Below them, the Elves were celebrating their victory, their voices filled with relief and triumph.
"I heard something Laston said before he died," Erend finally spoke.
Eccar groaned in annoyance, running a hand through his hair. "Let me guess. He said something about new enemies or some other disaster coming our way?"
Erend gave a small nod, confirming it.
"Damn it," Eccar muttered with a sigh. "Can we ever just stay still and enjoy some peace?"
"We can't," Erend replied. "We're Dragonborn, after all."
Realizing the truth in those words, Eccar let out another sigh and nodded to himself. "That's right. No rest for the Dragonborn. So, what exactly did you hear?"
"Nothing clear," Erend admitted. "Just that there's a danger we don't know about. I think we need to investigate further. There must be something left behind in Laston's world. I'm planning to check it out." His tone was firm and resolute.
"So that's our next course of action, huh? Alright." Eccar nodded. "When are you planning to do it?"
"Are you tired?" Erend asked.
Eccar shrugged. "Not at all. My opponent ran away."
"Same here. We should do it as soon as possible," Erend said.
Eccar nodded, and without another word, they soared back toward the palace.
Their wings folding as they landed near the infirmary. Inside, the air was thick with the scent of healing herbs and faint traces of burnt flesh, the remnants of wounds yet to fully mend.
The soft glow of Magic flickered around the injured, the healers working tirelessly to mend broken bodies and restore drained spirits.
Saeldir lay on one of the beds, his body wrapped in bandages, his face pale from exhaustion. Despite his condition, his sharp eyes flickered open the moment he sensed their presence. Letting out a weary sigh, he muttered, "Can't you let me rest first?"
Erend and Eccar exchanged glances, feeling a twinge of guilt.
"Uh…" Erend hesitated. "Then we'll come back later—"
"No." Saeldir cut him off, shaking his head slightly. "I know this is urgent. What do you need?"
Even while lying there, his Magic depleted and his body riddled with wounds, Saeldir knew that whatever they had come for couldn't wait.
The healers tending to him looked at each other, uncertain, before turning to Saeldir as if silently asking if he was sure. With a small nod, he assured them it was fine.
Erend and Eccar stepped closer, their expressions serious.
"We need to reopen the portal to Laston's world," Erend said.
Saeldir closed his eyes briefly, recalling the details.
"There's a diagram in my chamber," he finally said. "It's already attuned to the portal's coordinates. All you need to do is pour Magic energy into it, and the portal will activate."
That was all they needed. "Thank you," Erend said. "Now focus on yourself. We won't bother you anymore."
Saeldir gave a weak smirk. "That would be a first."
Eccar chuckled, but there was warmth in his eyes. Without another word, they turned and left, determination settling over them like a heavy cloak.
The battle was over, but another mission had only just begun.
