Beads of sweat were clearly visible on Killua’s forehead.

The effort required to manifest his energy blade his special weapon and then use it to completely neutralize the golden sphere had been immense.

It had drained a significant portion of his own energy reserves.

He was breathing heavily his chest rising and falling quickly.

His earlier calm confidence was replaced by a weary cautious respect. He now knew he was facing a very powerful opponent.

All the remaining conscious members of the Golden Team stared at Adam.

Their expressions were a mixture of shock fear and a grudging admiration. This first-year had single-handedly taken on three of the major factions and won.

Void and Kado standing beside Adam were also looking at him with surprise.

A new understanding of the sheer overwhelming power he possessed was dawning on them. This was beyond what they had imagined.

Adam then began to clap his hands slowly.

The sound of his clapping echoed in the now quiet courtyard. It was a mocking sound.

He looked at the members of the Golden Team who were still standing.

"You people are truly strong," he said his voice carrying a note of genuine if condescending praise. He was complimenting them but also making it clear he was superior.

He then turned his gaze to the scattered groaning forms of the other three factions the Red Blue and Black teams.

"At least," he added with a dismissive wave of his hand "you are much stronger than these other groups. They were very weak."

Killua’s attention snapped back to Adam when he heard this.

He couldn’t let such an insult to the upperclassmen go unanswered.

"Even though you have defeated all the group members who were present here today," he said his voice a little strained but firm

"don’t think for a moment that this is the true strength of our groups. The students who were present here today for this welcoming ceremony... I can assure you they are the weakest links within our factions. They are not our best fighters. The true powerhouses of our groups the strongest members... they don’t waste their time with these... welcoming ceremonies for new students."

Even as Killua spoke these brave words a flicker of fear was still visible in his eyes.

He knew he was posturing. He was just trying to salvage some small semblance of his faction’s pride after their near-defeat.

Adam simply smiled at Killua’s words. It was a cold predatory smile that sent a shiver down the spines of those who saw it.

"Then bring them here," he challenged.

His voice was soft yet it carried a dangerous weight a clear promise of a fight.

"Bring your strongest members to me. I will show them too what real strength is. I will defeat them just as easily."

He then looked around at the remaining upperclassmen who were still conscious.

"And what were you all saying before?" he mused as if talking to himself.

"You said there were rules in this Academy. In this entire world there is only one rule that truly applies. Respect the strong. And in my eyes," he declared his voice ringing with absolute certainty with complete confidence "none of you here today are strong. Therefore I have no respect for any of you."

Hearing Adam’s bold dismissive declaration Void let out a short appreciative laugh. He began to clap as well a slow deliberate applause in support of Adam’s words.

"Well said," Void remarked looking at Adam with a new intense interest.

"The more I get to know you the more... interesting you become. I think my time studying at this Academy with you will be very... entertaining." He was clearly enjoying the chaos.

Adam ignored Void’s comment. His attention was now once again focused on the crowd of first-year students. They were the true audience for this dramatic display of power.

"Have you all seen a glimpse of my power?" he asked them. His voice resonated with an undeniable authority.

"Or do you need to see more before you make your decision?"

Killua seeing Adam so casually dismiss him and his entire faction felt a fresh surge of frustration and rage. He couldn’t stand it. He took a step forward ready to launch another attack himself.

He was going to defend his group’s honor regardless of the consequences regardless of how powerful this boy was.

But before he could act before he could charge forward the other members of his Golden Team stopped him.

They grabbed his arms holding him back. "Killua stop!" one of them hissed his voice urgent and quiet.

"Don’t do it! Didn’t you see what he did to the other groups? We barely managed to stop his first attack. We shouldn’t disgrace ourselves like the others did. Let him do what he wants for now. We shouldn’t do anything until the real senior members of our group intervene. We need to tell them what happened first."

Hearing the desperate yet logical pleas of his fellow group members Killua halted in his tracks.

He was still seething with anger but he knew they were right. A direct confrontation now would be foolish.

It would only lead to their own humiliation.

He took a deep steadying breath trying to calm his anger.

Then he turned his back on Adam. He began to walk away. His posture was stiff with anger and humiliation.

The other conscious members of the Golden Team followed him.

They left the groaning defeated members of the Red Blue and Black Teams scattered across the courtyard. They would come back for them later.

As Killua walked away he thought to himself.

His mind was a storm of cold fury. You have made a very big mistake Eric, he thought. A very big mistake. You will be written about in the history of this Academy for this day. But you will be written about... as a cautionary tale. As a lesson about what happens to those who are too arrogant for their own good. We will make you regret this.
