Chapter 21 - Mother Wasp

"Shit."

[Jump to the left now.]

Alpha's words snapped Kai out of his trance, and without waiting a second, he jumped out of the way of the hovering wasp.

The mother wasp was huge with multicoloured wings, likely due to pollution from the gasoline leakage.

Her long antennae bent at each move Kai made, her eyes dark and empty. The pungent smell of gas, combined with the decaying smell of bodies, emanated from it.

Kai felt his stomach churn as a sudden urge to throw up slid into his throat.

"Damnit."

The mother wasp, seeing Kai, threw as much venom as she could, planning to kill the intruding figure with one brutal strike.

Kai immediately moved a few steps back, narrowly avoiding the attack as a massive pothole formed where he once stood.

Raising his blade, Kai sent a large amount of mana into his feet and, with a single burst, closed the distance between him and the wasp.

The source of this c𝓸ntent is frёeweɓηovel.coɱ.

He sent a stab into the wasp's wings to hinder its ability to fly, but just as the blade was almost making contact, the wasp increased its speed and dodged the attack before slamming its wing into Kai's abdomen.

Kai crashed into the cave wall, making dust and debris fly into the air.

As he tried to control his breathing and prevent his consciousness from slipping away, the wasp came once more with a large amount of toxic gas.

Kai held his breath, but he could still feel his lungs burning and his breathing growing more laboured.

The gas had a way of making Kai's mana run rampant, making it almost impossible to control his already crazed mana.

Gritting his teeth, Kai used Alpha's words to guide himself to a small safe zone before inhaling deeply.

His body was tattered with wounds all over, and his forehead was bleeding profusely.

Kai stared at his trembling hand and his veins, which were slowly turning multicoloured.

[Kai, you have been poisoned.]

"I know. Can you do anything about it?"

[I can suppress it for now.]

Kai sighed as he tore his clothes and conducted quick first aid.

It might have felt like ten minutes or more, but the exchange happened in less than a minute, which was more than enough time for the wasp to pinpoint his location.

With a single bash, the wasp smashed itself into the hole; Kai stayed.

"Directly transfer all information about her fighting style and magic type to me."

[Affirmative... Data transferred.]

Kai staggered a few steps back as the information flooded his head; this wasn't exactly the first time Alpha had transferred information into him, like when he wove items, but it was still overwhelming.

Kai loosened his tie and walked out of the cave before increasing his speed and rushing to the left of the cave, closer to the egg's nest.

A loud scream escaped the wasp's mouth as it rushed towards Kai.

Dodging the relentless attacks of the wasp, Kai increased his pace and began running on the wall of the cave.

By sending mana into his feet, just enough mana to form a resonance with the frequency of mana around him, Kai was able to walk on walls.

Dismissing his blade, Kai jumped into the egg nest, and as he thought, the wasp didn't follow.

Without wasting a moment, he summoned the seamstress Vesper and wired the cave completely with threads by only moving his fingers a few times.

The wasp, seeing his strange movement, became enraged and slammed into the wall, making dust from the ceiling fall on Kai.

Seeing the rage in the wasp's dead eyes, Kai ran over to the prince's egg and resummoned the tachi blade.

Looking the wasp in the eye with a wide grin, he sent the blade down. The wasp immediately flew into the room with unimaginable speed, but she was already too late.

Kai sliced the egg, scattering its pieces around. The voice of the system rang, but Kai was too occupied to listen.

"It gets mana from the gasoline, right?"

[Yes, so just use the threads to...]

Kai immediately jumped into the air and landed on the strings he placed around the nest.

The wasp, on the other hand, paid no attention to him and instead went straight to her dead egg; seeing the mess that the human made caused her already ignited fury to burn further.

She flew over to Kai, sending rounds of poisonous liquid at him, but the strange human didn't move.

He jumped twice on the strings, placing all his weight on them, and with the third jump, different pillars broke out, sending a gust of wind in all directions.

Kai immediately plummeted down towards the wasp, her colourful body slowly turning a bit grey, and at that right moment, he sent a precise strike to her back.

She thrashed around, her back slamming into the ground.

Kai sent his blade even deeper with each squirm; slowly, her movement reduced, and soon she lay still on the floor.

Seeing her stationary body, Kai let out a sigh of relief; his knee buckled, making him fall to the ground.

He finally stopped his breathing technique, which made his burning lungs ignite in spasms of pain.

His head hurt, his temples still bled, and he felt his last reserves of mana fade away.

"That was tough," he said, glancing over to the prince's egg.

He put on a gentle smile as he walked up to the egg; there was no time to rest when he had an exam to catch up to.

"I can find one idiot to catch."

[Kai...]

"What is it now?"

Kai shifted his gaze to the entrance, but before he could even face the direction where the wasp once lay, he heard loud screams right on top of him.

A surveillance drone hovered, recording his entire match.

"Shit, I'm screwed."

******

Kai never expected it: from the moment his fight with the wasp began, all of Meltonia had been watching him.

Even though he used almost all his power, it wasn't as if anyone knew.

No one had heard of any ability that made someone weave things; even with the advancement of quirky abilities, they were all still grounded within the normal elements.

So that brought up the question: what would happen when people saw Kai fight with zero elements?

Only one thing: 'Interest.'

People would think, "How strong is he exactly to not even use his actual ability in such a deadly fight?"

"He must be a hero because he left the exam and went after the possible threat he felt."

"How was he even able to sense them from so far away?"

"I heard he was even an S rank."

Different conversations like that.

And if you think there's no way people would tag one man a hero after just one fight—

Then you are sorely mistaken.

There is one thing humans love to do, and that is to shift blame and responsibilities onto others.

So, when given the chance, people find a way to label someone a villain. But if the same situation arises under the guise of righteousness, they immediately label them a hero.

And Kai had just become subject to this same accursed fame.

As he looked at the screen that Alpha projected in front of him of the ranking, his eyes widened.

"Number... number one in fan ranking!"
