Infinite Evolution: My Idle Evolution System-Chapter 418: Arthur Pendragon
Zooming in on this congregation of islands, the old man observed an ongoing battle in the clouds high above the Island Nations. Each exchange in this battle could instantly wipe out all life in the Forgotten Shores, and at the speed they were fighting, millions of world-ending blows were unleashed every second.
What the denizens of the Azure Archipelago saw when they looked up was but the mere residual projections produced by the lingering chaotic energies. It in no way emulated the true immensity of the war between a single man and a seemingly unlimited number of Soul Eaters.
"How perplexing." The old white-haired man stroked his five-foot-long beard, honing in on the aloof man deflecting and counterattacking against millions of attackers all at once. "How come I wasn't aware of a talent like this one before now? The World would've told me if someone like this existed…
From the looks of it, he isn't even a 1st Class Slayer, but his power is coming from somewhere.
There's also this weird feeling I get when I look at him; it reminds me of a powerful Soul Eater.
How odd…"
The more the white-haired old man observed this unknown human, the more confused he became. Everything about the human made no sense, with his anchor to this world non-existent, his Bloodline a jumble of incomprehensible elements, and his primary power source a total mystery.
In all the years he had been alive, the old man had never seen anything even remotely close to what he was looking at right now…
Catching him even more by surprise was when, sometime during the mysterious man's battle, he looked directly at him. And it wasn't a brief glance either; the mysterious man definitely knew he was there.
"...I want to meet this man myself," said the white-haired man, but ended up letting out a sigh instead of getting up. "Unfortunately, to obtain the supreme, near-omnipotent power that I did, I had to give up my will to act on worldly matters. Immortal but restricted—that is the life I chose. Unless the battle reaches a certain irreversible point, I can neither move nor interfere…"
The Land of Beginnings and the Nightmarescape were parallel worlds, with the latter being the grim look into the future that everyone in the former got whenever they peered into it. In a way, the two worlds were one and the same, and seen as such by the powerhouses from both sides.
However, the Nightmare Kings and Nightmare Emperors did not fear the experts of the Land of Beginnings.
They feared but one man…
The one capable of striking fear in the hearts of even the most terrifying of monsters lurking in the night.
The man who, even after achieving unrivaled power, strove for something more. The man who gave up everything in pursuit of that something.
Arthur Pendragon!
The Absolute Ruler of the Land of Beginnings and Guardian of the World of the Living!!
"The Soul Emperors rarely make any moves themselves, for they suffer from eternal boredom just the same as I," said Arthur. "It's extremely unusual for them to be targeting a singular human unless there's a really good reason behind it. As for what this reason could be—"
That was when he noticed something weird.
The moment the mysterious young human killed one of the Soul Eaters, the Soul Source that should've returned to the Sea of Souls in the Netherworld did something else instead.
"The Soul Sources are merging with his existence…!?" Arthur Pendragon's brows raised in astonishment as yet another unexplainable thing occurred today. "How can a human body possibly contain Soul Sources, and for what reason is this young man even absorbing them for anyway??"
Answering his question for him, every time Cassius killed a Soul Eater and absorbed its Soul Source in the form of EXP, his apparent Godforce Value would increase. Moreover, that feeling that he was a Soul Eater himself would become greater.
There wasn't much in this reality that could leave the Almighty Arthur Pendragon dumbfounded, as he knew more than anyone, but that was only if you weren't Cassius Steele…
"To think… To think someone like this person actually exists… Remarkable. Truly remarkable."
For the next few years, Arthur couldn't seem to take his eyes away from Cassius. He watched his every move, his every battle against progressively stronger Soul Kings.
However, sometime during this period, Arthur noticed a number of the Motherland's powerhouses finally picking up on the war that now affected the main landmass in the world. Almost immediately, they set out for the Forgotten Shores, planning to directly confront the mysterious human leaving a trail of destruction wherever he went.
But before they could do something so foolish and indirectly ruin Arthur's entertainment, he projected his face in front of them. And with a booming, fear-inducing voice, warned them not to interfere with the ongoing war between the unknown man and an unlimited number of Soul Eaters.
The Peak Transcendent Class Slayers were still worried that the battles would begin seriously ruining their territories. However, even though none of them had ever seen him in their comparatively shorter lives, not a single one of them was unaware of the illustrious Arthur Pendragon's status.
They naturally heeded his command, returning to whichever major world faction they crawled out of.
"Now that that's out of the way, let's see what that young man does next."
Over the course of dozens of years, many things were no longer the same. For one, the explosions that could still be slightly glimpsed in the distance had become no more than a backdrop for the people of the Azure Archipelago.
The once extremely perilous situation had become but a mere afterimage in the minds of many. Even the 1st Class Slayers ruling over the Azure Archipelago no longer concerned themselves with the Unseen War.
Only the few who were close to Cassius, like Yuna and Opal, kept the distant explosive images close to their hearts. Waking up to see them every day was the only proof that he was still alive, and for them, that would have to do.
"One day, he'll return."
A much more mature and beautiful Yuna said to her sister.
"We just have to keep waiting..."
