35 -35: Cobra Digging a Pit

Yusuf Zuck went downstairs and directly returned to the dormitory through the back door.

In the dormitory behind, the team leader Samuel Ross had a single room.

As a mid-level executive in the company, his treatment was, of course, better than that of ordinary security guards.

When Yusuf reached the second floor, Samuel was shirtless, baring his belly while washing up.

“Eh?

Yusuf, why are you back?

Where’s Ms.

Wilcox?” Samuel asked as he was wiping his face.

“Ms.

Wilcox came early today, I’ve got something for you.” Yusuf pulled Samuel out of the washroom and, once at the stairway corner of the hallway, whispered, “I’m going out on business today and may not be back tonight.

Ms.

Wilcox is going to stay at a hotel, so have the security guys on their toes tonight; someone’s targeting Ms.

Wilcox these days.”

“Understood, don’t worry.

I’ll be personally on duty tonight,” Samuel said with a serious nod.

“Then I’ll be off.” Yusuf and Samuel had become acquainted through a less-than-friendly initial encounter, but last night’s dinner brought them much closer, so their conversations were less formal.

They were all men here; there was no need for roundabout talk when speaking or doing business!

“What are you going out for?

Do you need help?” Samuel suddenly asked.

“No need, I’m off, Captain.” Yusuf waved and turned to go downstairs.

As soon as Yusuf left, Samuel quickly returned to his dormitory and picked up the intercom there, saying, “After the eight o’clock shift, all security guards meet in my office, no leave allowed!”

By the time Yusuf got back to the parking lot in front of the hotel, Fleur Carson had already started the car, waiting for Yusuf.

As soon as he got in, she shifted gears, stepped on the gas, and said sternly, “We’ve got a call, telling us to head to the Shijiazhuang expressway towards Shijiazhuang.

Be ready for a call anytime!”

“Shouldn’t we make some preparations?

You being a former hitman, do you have a gun?” Yusuf leaned back in his seat, relaxed.

At that moment, he knew the journey ahead would lead to an entirely different life.

“Gun, my ass.

I have a gun in my pants, do you want it?” Fleur cursed.

Yusuf retorted with a laugh, “Better save that gun for your lady friends!”

“No guns,” Fleur shook her head and smiled wryly.

“Although I know how to use a gun, and pretty well at that, being a gunplay enthusiast has its downsides.

Plus, I’ve washed my hands of that life.

Why would I need a gun now?”

“What if the other side has guns?” Yusuf countered.

“They probably won’t.

Also, recline your seat and lie down on it,” Fleur ordered.

“Why?” Yusuf was puzzled.

“Although Cobra told me to head towards Shijiazhuang, there’s a chance he could be hiding along the way.

If he sees someone else in the car, it’ll be trouble,” Fleur explained, shaking her head.

“Oh,” Yusuf realized.

Fleur was indeed highly vigilant – no wonder she had been a hitman.

He obediently reclined the seat and lay down, saying, “I just realized you’re quite thick-skinned!”

“Why do you say that?” Fleur asked oddly, glancing back through the rear-view mirror.

“Aren’t you worried about your Shan Shan?” Yusuf countered with a question.

“Must I voice my concerns?

Besides, after this, we’re definitely breaking up.

If she doesn’t do it, I will have to!” Fleur sighed.

“My adoptive father used to say, ‘A hitman walks alone, a judge in the Dark World, no marriage, no family, no friends!'”

Yusuf said, “Don’t pull out that literary stuff on me; I don’t understand it!”

“What my adoptive father meant is that a truly excellent hitman should not have a spouse and children, should not have family ties, should not make friends, because all these things can become a hitman’s fatal weakness!”

“So do we count as friends?”

“What do you think?”

“Forget I asked.” Yusuf lit a cigarette and started to smoke leisurely.

“If we both survive this time, I owe you a favor,” said Fleur.

“Favors are the hardest to repay,” Yusuf laughed.

“As long as it’s not a debt paid by the body, anything else is fine.”

“What if I wanted you to pay with your flesh, huh?

With that delicate skin of yours, you don’t look like any assassin I’ve ever seen!”

“Don’t you scare me, you freak!

I can’t take scares, you freaking pervert!”

“Haha.” After Fleur Carson cursed, both of them burst out laughing together.

Soon, the Buick entered the Jing-Shi Expressway, and Yusuf Zuck even managed to fall asleep without a care in the world.

He had gone to bed late and risen early the night before, and hadn’t slept at all the night before that, so as soon as he got in the car, he was off to dreamland.

“Ring, ring, ring~” After an indeterminate amount of time, a sharp ringtone woke Yusuf Zuck up from his slumber, and he immediately perked up his ears to listen closely.

Fleur Carson answered the phone, but…

the conversation on the other end was in English, and he couldn’t understand a word of it.

After a few words, the call ended and Fleur Carson took the initiative to explain, “They want me to stop at the service area up ahead to eat and rest, and to keep waiting for a call!”

“They know where you are?” Yusuf Zuck asked, surprised.

“Shouldn’t do.” Fleur Carson shook her head.

“Oh.” Yusuf Zuck then narrowed his eyes.

What were the enemies up to?

Why did they want Fleur Carson to enter a service area to eat and rest?

Or rather, were the enemies in the service area too?

Neither of them spoke any further, as it was a time of darkness for the enemy and light for them, and both instinctively smelled danger in the air.

About twenty minutes later, they reached the service area.

After parking the car, Fleur Carson didn’t immediately get out, and that’s when Yusuf Zuck suddenly said, “Go ahead and get out.

If it’s convenient, buy something and throw it in the car.

If not, then forget it!”

Yusuf Zuck wasn’t that delicate; he knew what was important and what wasn’t.

He couldn’t expose Fleur Carson’s plan just for the sake of stepping out to eat.

“Alright, you wait in the car.

I’ll bring you something to eat later.

Also, don’t smoke in the car.

I’ve opened the sunroof; please bear with it,” Fleur Carson said feeling a bit sorry, considering the car parked under the scorching sun would get very hot inside.

“Motherf*cker, I’m not paying back that million,” Yusuf Zuck cursed.

“Sure.” Fleur Carson chuckled, then turned around and headed off towards the service area.

Yusuf Zuck was a bit dismayed.

This was not an easy job.

A full hour passed before Fleur Carson came back with a bag filled with food and drink.

“There’s no danger in the service area; they’re not here.”

“You sure?” Yusuf Zuck grabbed a bottle of iced tea and guzzled it down—staying in the car really was hot, and his whole body was now sweaty as if he had been washed with water; he could almost wring out the dirt.

“Sure,” Fleur Carson nodded.

“Then we wait for the call.” Yusuf Zuck didn’t say anything else, but continued to drink water and started eating things like bread, biscuits, and sausages.

However, the wait turned out to be six hours long.

It was almost dark when the phone finally rang again with another call in English from the Dark World.

A minute later, Fleur Carson hung up the phone with a grim expression, “They told me to abandon the car, get off the highway, and walk east.”

“East?

What’s to the east?” Yusuf Zuck frowned.

“Farmland!”

“Motherf*cker, what are they up to?” Hearing ‘farmland,’ especially now with night approaching, Yusuf Zuck knew that the enemy was setting a trap for Fleur Carson to fall into.

“No choice now, let’s keep in touch by phone.” Fleur Carson didn’t look back; after speaking, she simply got out of the car,

“Bro, take care—I’ll catch up with you!” Yusuf Zuck whispered.

“Mmm.” With a soft sound of agreement, Fleur Carson suddenly ran off quickly towards the expressway, leaping into the fields of corn below and quickly disappearing from sight.

Yusuf Zuck didn’t get up.

He continued to lie in the car and switched his phone to vibrate mode, quietly waiting.
