41 -41: Going to Shanghai

Even though Yusuf Zuck sped on his way back, by the time he reached the capital it was already past office hours.

Fortunately, when he drove into the company parking lot, he saw his own car hadn’t left yet.

He mistook the boss’s A8 for his own car.

“Floyd, has Ms.

Wilcox left yet?” Floyd Hart was on duty in the parking lot.

As soon as Yusuf parked, he quickly jumped out and hurriedly asked.

“Damn, whose Buick is this?

Ms.

Wilcox hasn’t left yet, right?

I heard today the whole company is working overtime.” Floyd Hart looked at Yusuf enviously.

It had only been a month since Yusuf joined the company, and he had already become Ms.

Wilcox’s driver.

His status was rising rapidly.

Besides Ms.

Wilcox, everyone in the company had to greet him with a smile!

There’s no helping it, the boss’s driver can whisper into her ear.

“Got it.” Yusuf nodded.

Clearly, Floyd wasn’t aware that he took leave, and Samuel Ross hadn’t told them.

After making his way up to the twenty-eighth floor, Yusuf found that none of the departments had finished work yet.

Now it was 6:40 in the evening, which means they had been working overtime for forty minutes.

“Yusuf, where have you been?

Haven’t seen you for two days?” The company secretary greeted Yusuf with a smile when she saw him pass by.

Secretaries and drivers are close to the boss, so naturally, she thought she and Yusuf were on the same level.

These past few days, she had been wondering when she could find the time to dine with Yusuf to enhance their rapport.

“I went out on an errand for Ms.

Wilcox.

Is she in her office?” Yusuf leaned on the secretary’s desk and said.

“Yes, everyone’s working overtime.

There’s a big project coming up.

If we land this project, Ms.

Wilcox will earn quite some points at the headquarters.

That’s why she issued a strict order to pull an all-nighter today and get all the materials ready!” the company secretary whispered.

“What big project?” Yusuf was a bit stunned; he only knew the company had hotels and restaurants but hadn’t heard of any other projects.

“It’s a business partnership.

You wouldn’t understand if I explained,” the company secretary laughed.

Yusuf, an insignificant guard, would understand nothing about business partnerships.

“Alright, I’ll give Ms.

Wilcox a call to let her know I’ve handled the task,” Yusuf picked up the internal phone from the secretary’s desk.

“Sure.” The company secretary nodded.

Yusuf was close to Ms.

Wilcox, so making a call was perfectly normal.

Plus, hadn’t he said he’d been out on an errand for her?

So a call was nothing out of the ordinary.

The phone rang twice before being picked up.

Ruth Wilcox’s voice was cold and stiff, a woman who acted like an unchallenged queen in the company, never showing a good face to anyone.

“Ms.

Wilcox, it’s Yusuf.

I’m back,” Yusuf said quietly.

“Wait, don’t go anywhere!”

With a “click”, the call was disconnected, and Yusuf just shrugged his shoulders, expressing helplessness.

“Yusuf, where have you been staying these past few nights?” the company secretary asked, pretending to be casual as she continued working on her computer.

This girl was quite a gossip.

“Of course, I stayed at the company.

What, do you think I could stay at Ms.

Wilcox’s place?

I wish…” Yusuf complained.

“Giggle, don’t let Ms.

Wilcox hear you say that!” The company secretary started giggling.

When she laughed, the two globes on her chest jiggled ceaselessly.

She wore a white blouse, a professional outfit, with quite the ample bosom, which made her quite a head-turner.

“Heh, just kidding, just talking!” Yusuf’s eyes drifted unconsciously toward the secretary’s ample chest a couple of times!

The company secretary didn’t mind at all, even seeming a bit proud.

Though she knew Yusuf was looking at her, she continued working on the computer, humming a little tune.

A moment later, someone came out from Ms.

Wilcox’s office, and the phone on the company secretary’s desk rang.

She immediately answered it and became very polite.

“Okay, okay, I’ll send him in right away.” The company secretary gave Yusuf a signal with her eyes, indicating he could go in now.

Yusuf smiled at the company secretary before quickly walking into Ruth Wilcox’s office.

Truth be told, even though the company secretary was well-endowed, he wasn’t attracted to her at all.

He kind of disliked the girl, an indescribable feeling.

She seemed to look down on people.

When he was a security guard, she had seen him a few times, but when he greeted her, she never responded, not even with a grunt.

And the last time he fixed the electricity, she treated him very professionally, her eyes full of contempt.

Yusuf didn’t like such snobbish women.

Following protocol, Yusuf still knocked on the door a few times and, after getting Ruth Wilcox’s indication, he walked in.

“You’re back?

How did it go with the task?” Once Yusuf entered, Ruth Wilcox also put down the materials in her hands, and a rare softness appeared on her usually stern professional face.

“The task is complete.

I’m sorry, Ms.

Wilcox, for returning late!” Yusuf thought Ruth Wilcox would be angry since his phone had been off and he had been absent for two days and a night, so according to her temperament, she was bound to be furious.

But now, she actually seemed pleased?

“Why was your phone turned off?” Ruth Wilcox actually really wanted to be angry.

Last night, she hadn’t slept a wink, worrying all night long.

However, when she saw Yusuf, she didn’t show it and didn’t tell him she had been worried all night.

After all, between them, it was just a boss and employee relationship.

“It ran out of battery, and my charger has always been in the dorm.

I didn’t charge it at your place the day before, so it ran out of battery last night,” Yusuf told the truthful reason.

“It’s good you’re back.

Take a rest for now.

I’m too busy over here.

Fly to Shanghai with me tomorrow.”

“Okay then, you go ahead with your work,” Yusuf Zuck knew that Ruth Wilcox was genuinely busy, and the fact that she took time out of her hectic schedule to meet with him was already quite difficult.

It showed that she cared about her subordinates.

After Yusuf Zuck turned and walked out, Ruth Wilcox twirled the pen in her hand and spaced out a bit.

Yusuf had changed his clothes, and it was not the suit she had bought for him a few days ago.

Moreover, she could tell that the clothes Yusuf was wearing now were not cheap!

She was very aware of Yusuf’s frugality and stinginess, so there was no way he bought those clothes himself.

If he didn’t buy them himself, then who could it be?

His sister?

Or…

another woman?

It had to be admitted that Ruth Wilcox, a career woman, had exceptionally sharp and sensitive thinking.

“Ah, money.” Remembering Yusuf’s stinginess, Ruth Wilcox immediately picked up the phone and dialed her secretary desk, “Has Yusuf gone downstairs?”

“He’s gone downstairs,” the company secretary replied.

“Oh,” Ruth Wilcox uttered and hung up without saying anything else.

After going downstairs, Yusuf got into his A8 and took out the Apple iPhone from the center console storage box.

He wanted to switch his SIM card into the Apple phone.

After all, he had been missing for two days and a night.

If during this time his sister was trying to reach him, she would probably be worried.

The Apple phone had a charge.

After fiddling with it for quite a while, he unlocked the phone and inserted his own SIM card!

Right after he switched the SIM card and rebooted the phone, the Apple device began vibrating non-stop.

Sixteen text messages popped up—all from his sister Sara Zuck—asking why his phone was off, where he was, and urging him to turn it on.

Yusuf scanned the messages briefly, then immediately dialed Sara’s number.

Only…

the phone rang over a dozen times without an answer.

Yusuf felt a bit panicked and continued to dial.

The second call also went unanswered…

And just as he was attempting a third call, after one ring, the phone was answered.

However, the noise on the other end was extremely loud, with music and singing creating a chaotic din.

“Bro, you turned on your phone!

Where did you go?

Why was your phone off for so long?” Sara shouted into the phone.

“Where are you?” Yusuf asked, frowning.

“We’re classmates out singing.”

“What time is it?

What are you singing?”

“One of my classmates is going to compete in ‘The Voice’, she’s made it to the next round, so we’re helping her practice,” Sara explained.

“Ah, you scared me.” Yusuf laughed in relief, “Go to those places less; they’re not safe.

Even if you go, call me in advance and tell me where you are.”

“I know, I did call, but your phone was off.

It’s not my fault!” Sara retorted.

“Okay, okay, my bad.

But Sara, do you have anything you want, anything you want to buy?

I’ve made some money, so what would you like?”

Yusuf remembered the one million Fleur Carson had left behind.

In fact, he hadn’t really thought about what to do with that money yet.

Of course, even though Fleur said the money was his, he couldn’t take it.

Even if he did take some, it should just be a few tens of thousands as a gesture; he would have to keep the rest for Fleur, waiting for him to come back.

“Bro, what are you saying?

I can’t hear you, it’s too loud here.

Bro, I’m fine.

You take care too, don’t get into fights.

I have to hang up, they’re calling me over…” The music on that end was so loud that Sara couldn’t hear what Yusuf was saying clearly, so she took the initiative to hang up the phone!

Yusuf could only give a wry smile.

This matter about the one million couldn’t really be discussed with his sister.

“Well, I guess I’ll just check in with Louise Garrett!” Yusuf thought for a moment, then dialed Miles O’Brien’s mobile number.

“Yusuf, are you in the capital yet?” The phone was answered after a single ring, as if Miles O’Brien was waiting by the phone.

“Yep, just finished reporting to the boss, swapped phones and called you.

What about you?

What are you doing?” Yusuf asked with a smile.

“Guess?” Miles O’Brien’s laugh was sweet, indicating that Yusuf hadn’t thought to hit and run after having his way.

The truth was, she had been worried all afternoon.

She was truly afraid she wouldn’t receive this reassuring call because if it didn’t come, it meant that Yusuf was the kind of man who would disappear after taking advantage.

And such men are everywhere these days.

“I guess you’re watching TV?” Yusuf laughed.

“Nope, I just took my medicine, birth control pills.

I forgot, it seems like it might be my fertile period, so I just bought some pills and took them!” Miles O’Brien whispered.

Yusuf was taken aback for a moment, then suddenly sighed, “I’m sorry.

I heard those pills aren’t good for you.

Don’t take them again; we’ll just be more careful!”

“Mhm,” Miles O’Brien replied softly.

“Alright, alright, no more talk.

I can rest assured after your call.

I’m so sleepy.

I was dead tired today…” Miles O’Brien hinted over the phone.

“Ha-ha, I’ll make you even more tired next time!” Yusuf laughed heartily.

“I’m not talking to you anymore, I’m hanging up.

I’ll come see you in a few days.”

“Great, I’ll wait for you.

But I have to go to Shanghai with the boss tomorrow, and I don’t know when I’ll be back.

However, I won’t turn off my phone; we can stay in touch!” Yusuf was afraid that Miles O’Brien would come over tomorrow, and if he wasn’t there, she’d definitely think he had stood her up.

So he decided to inform her of his schedule in advance to give her a heads up.

“Okay, got it.

I’m hanging up now,” Miles O’Brien said with a laugh and ended the call.
