Journey to the West: Treasure Vase of the Great Dao-Chapter 666 - 330 True Face_2
"Mother!" Chen Xiang roared to the heavens, questioning why the Mysterious Figure had kidnapped his own mother.
At that very moment, three majestic eyes suddenly appeared in the sky, illuminating the universe, and the whole world began to tremble and disintegrate, everything around dissolving to nothingness under the gaze of those three eyes.
A violent sense of vertigo struck him, making Chen Xiang feel as if the earth and sky were spinning. When he opened his eyes again, he found himself lying on the riverbank, completely unharmed.
Not far away was the changing countenance of the Fire Pool Master, which took Chen Xiang by surprise as he exclaimed, "Master!"
His emotions towards this mentor were extremely complicated. Initially, the things that happened made him suspect the man of harboring ulterior motives, but subsequent events appeared to overturn his conclusion. As time passed, Chen Xiang gradually accepted this mentor, but a trace of caution always lingered in his heart.
"You have quite the nerve, daring to provoke that Demon Lord. You really must have a death wish," said the Fire Pool Master with a stern face.
"Master, you know him. Can you help to Subdue Demons?" Chen Xiang's heart ignited with a hopeful fire. Although he hadn't seen his master in action, he surmised that he was no ordinary individual.
"I am no match for him. That is the Demon Lord from Mountain Hua who has done evil for many years. Once sealed by a descending Celestial God, somehow he broke the seal and wreaked havoc upon the mortal realm. With my cultivation, I am far from being his opponent," lamented the Fire Pool Master.
Hearing this, Chen Xiang felt despair. The Demon was described with such grandiosity; how could ordinary people contend with such a force? A sense of utter hopelessness washed over him.
"However, the chains left by the Celestial God when he Subdued Demons are still there. If you could obtain them, you might use them to reseal the Demon," the Fire Chi Master added, suddenly shifting the mood.
"Where are those chains now?" Chen Xiang urgently inquired.
With a light gesture towards a nearby cave by the riverbank, the Fire Pool Master directed, "Follow this cave down, and it will lead you to the bottom of Mountain Hua, in the scorching magma, where the four chains that once bound the Demon lie."
Filled with newfound confidence, Chen Xiang prepared to search the cave for the object to reseal the Demon. The Fire Chi Master claimed he would stay behind to stall the Demon, urging Chen Xiang to act quickly; otherwise, once the Demon reacted, it would be too late for regrets.
The cave was deep and seemingly endless, the silence only broken by his own echoing footsteps. In such an environment, time seemed to stretch infinitely, and loneliness and fear gnawed at Chen Xiang's young spirit like a Poison Snake.
Yet, driven by his determination to save his mother and defeat the Demon, he continued downward. Amidst the endless darkness, he had no idea how much time had passed when suddenly, a bright light appeared before his eyes. The intense light was so painful to his dark-adjusted eyes that he had to rub them.
Adjusting to the light, he stepped out of the cave and saw a serpentine river of underground magma before him. A blistering heat assaulted his face, accompanied by the strong smell of sulfur, causing Chen Xiang to instinctively cover his face with his hands.
Following the Fire Pool Master's guidance and trailing along the magma river, he cautiously avoided the occasional eruptions of magma. Before long, he came across a lake complete with the Lake of Fire, formed entirely of magma.
"The Lake of Fire, this must be the place Master was talking about," Chen Xiang murmured with a relieved smile, wiping the sweat from his face.
Looking around, he found the place eerily similar to the Lake of Fire in his dreams. In that dream, this place should have housed a terrifying, green-faced Demon with sharp teeth, yet now it was empty and eerily quiet.
Suddenly, a flicker of doubt crossed his mind. After all, the Demon from his dream and the one he encountered today were entirely different, not only in appearance but also in their aura.
But after all, that was just a dream within a dream, not to be taken as reality; therefore, Chen Xiang didn't mind it and followed the Fire Pool Master's instructions, beginning to look around for the chains capable of sealing the Demon.
Indeed, in a small corner, he spotted an enormous iron chain. The chain was entirely red and emitted a luminescent flow, with mysterious runic inscriptions appearing and vanishing in the briefest of moments, clearly not a mundane object.
Chen Xiang gently reached out to touch the chain and discovered that although the chain was submerged in lava, he felt no burning sensation; his heart swelled with joy, for sure it was a treasure, no wonder it could seal a Demon.
He grasped the chain lightly, the Fire Pool Master's instruction flashing through his mind—the only way to take the chain was to believe that he could do so. Whenever he thought of this, he was at a loss for words. What kind of technique was this? But at this moment, he couldn't care less and started to try.
Closing his eyes tightly, he repeatedly hypnotized himself in his mind, convincing himself that he could indeed take the chain.
What he didn't know was that as he continued to hypnotize himself, a light suddenly illuminated from his hand, shining upon the chain and merging with the light on it. Suddenly, a crisp sound rang by his ear, and upon opening his eyes, he saw that the chain had broken, was shrinking, and with a light tug, he pulled up the chain.
A look of elation appeared on his face, he hadn't expected the method to actually work. Thus, he started looking everywhere: according to the Fire Pool Master, there were a total of four chains like this.
In no time at all, he found all four chains, Chen Xiang took each one, but upon the last one, he hesitated—it was a moment of doubt towards the Fire Pool Master.
Since he found out there was an issue with the cultivation technique, he had always been skeptical, maintaining a guard against the Fire Pool Master. However, as time passed, his guard slowly waned, but he still couldn't bring himself to trust completely.
After a while, Chen Xiang bit the bullet and decided to take the chain out; after all, he had no chance of rescuing the two children from the Demon with his own strength—he had to take the risk.
Crisp sounds reached his ear, and with that, the last chain fell. Holding the chain in hand, Chen Xiang realized that the surroundings were eerily quiet, with no changes occurring.
He quietly sighed with relief, ready to leave to confront the Demon, only to discover that his master, the Fire Pool Master, had appeared by the Lake of Fire at some point, and a bad premonition suddenly hit him.
"Master, why have you come? What happened to that Demon?" Chen Xiang asked cautiously, actually feeling his heart in his throat at this moment.
Yet, the Fire Pool Master revealed a strange smile, which soon turned into frantic laughter echoing unceasingly in the empty underground. Under the reflection of the firelight, the Fire Pool Master's face looked eerily ferocious.
"You've finally been fooled!" the Fire Pool Master muttered to himself, slowly lifting his head to reveal a sinister scene, with his eyeballs as if they were about to burst from the sockets, and the veins exposed.

With a loud bang, the Fire Pool Master's body began to show cracks yet strangely without bleeding a drop. A black shadow burst from the fissure, entering the lava in a flash.
Terrible tremors ensued, the violent shaking making it difficult for Chen Xiang to stand. The calm surface of the lava lake began to churn violently, and a ferocious figure emerged from beneath, roaring to the sky, its green face and sharp fangs identical to the Demon in Chen Xiang's dream.
At this moment, Chen Xiang realized that the Fire Pool Master was the real Demon, and the one he saw should have been fake; by some coincidence, he had unwittingly released the terrible Demon.
Looking at Chen Xiang's regretful face, the Demon revealed a mocking smile and said, "Ha ha, my good disciple, how could I have possibly come out without you? You really are as stupid as that annoying mother of yours, daring to offend the Heavenly Stripes for a mere mortal."
Chen Xiang looked at the ghastly Demon in shock, the Demon's words about his mother echoing in his ears.
