Chapter 47 - 41 Great Gojo Sensei orders lots of desserts

"Go find a man named Yamashita Ryo. I have reason to believe he's involved in this case," Gojo Satoru said, completely ignoring the police officer's question.

Officer Megure scrutinized Gojo with suspicion but ultimately chose to say nothing. Instead, he turned to the officer beside him and ordered, "Send someone to track down Yamashita Ryo immediately."

"Once you find him, I need to meet him," Gojo added confidently. "Then we'll see if he has any connection to this murder."

The officer hesitated, glancing at Megure, who nodded in approval. Without further delay, he turned to arrange the search for Yamashita Ryo.

Half an hour later, the officer returned in a hurry. "Inspector, we've found Yamashita Ryo!"

Megure's eyes lit up. "Really? Where is he?"

"He's being escorted here as we speak, but..." The officer trailed off, sneaking a glance at Gojo, clearly hesitant to continue.

"What is it? Speak up!" Megure urged impatiently.

"Well... he has a solid alibi. He was drinking at a bar all night. Multiple witnesses can confirm it."

Mouri Kogoro, still sore from his earlier deduction mistakes, jumped at the opportunity. "Ha! White-haired kid, you can't just assume the victim's brother is guilty because, well, he has a brother!"

Gojo remained unfazed by Mouri's mockery. "I just need to see him," he said coolly. "That'll be enough."

"Huh? You can tell just by looking?" Mouri raised an eyebrow.

"Of course! Because I have Six Eyes!" Gojo smirked.

"Six Eyes? What kind of nonsense is that?"

Everyone in the room instinctively glanced at the blindfold covering Gojo's face, imagining all sorts of bizarre possibilities.

"Uh... he's joking!" Geto Suguru quickly interjected, forcing a laugh. "It's a line from a school play he's rehearsing."

"Oh!" The officers visibly relaxed, some even sighing in relief. The idea of standing in the same room as a six-eyed monster was, understandably, unsettling.

Another half-hour passed before two officers arrived with a teenage boy, about sixteen or seventeen. He was painfully thin, his greasy black hair sticking to his forehead. His skin was so pale it looked nearly translucent, the dark circles under his eyes stark against his ghostly complexion.

"This is Yamashita Ryo," one officer introduced.

Even behind his blindfold, Gojo confirmed that this was the same Yamashita Ryo he had encountered before time rewound—albeit younger and less refined. His cursed energy signature was slightly different, but that was expected. Cursed energy fluctuates with age and ability growth, which is why Gojo hadn't recognized him instantly.

"Is he the murderer?" Conan whispered to Gojo.

Though Conan had heard of the Gojo family's Six Eyes, his rational mind, grounded in seventeen years of science, struggled to fully accept such abilities.

"I detected faint traces of cursed energy in this apartment," Gojo murmured. "And it matches Yamashita Ryo's. I'm certain he's been here before."

"He's the victim's brother. Isn't it natural that he'd visit?" Conan adjusted his glasses, skeptical.

Gojo grinned and ruffled Conan's hair.

"Lesson time! Before cursed energy manifests into a physical form—like a cursed spirit—it gradually fades over time. Based on the residual energy Yamashita Ryo is unconsciously emitting, I can determine whether he was here when the crime took place."

Conan frowned, his mind processing the explanation. "And? What's your conclusion?"

"He was here last night, during the murder," Gojo stated firmly.

Geto furrowed his brows. "What about Dr. Itadori? Didn't you say you detected her cursed energy here too?"

"Ah, Dr. Itadori!" Gojo's smirk widened. "I lied to her. I never sensed her cursed energy in this apartment."

In truth, Kaori Itadori had no cursed energy signature—at least, not the kind possessed by sorcerers.

If Gojo hadn't retained memories from before the timeline reset, he never would have suspected her, even if he had run into her outside the apartment.

Last time, Nozomi had perfectly imitated Geto Suguru, even fooling the Six Eyes. So it wasn't hard to believe that, now in the body of an ordinary person—Kaori Itadori—he could do the same.

"Hey! White-haired kid, what did you see?" Mouri Kogoro barked, desperate to reclaim some authority. He refused to be outdone by a mere teenager.

Gojo feigned an apologetic expression. "Oops! I made a mistake!"

"Huh?" Conan and Geto spoke in unison, eyeing him skeptically before deciding to let it go.

"Hahaha!" Mouri laughed triumphantly, hands on his hips. "Inspector Megure, it looks like solving this case falls to me—the great detective, Mouri Kogoro!"

Inspector Megure sighed, visibly disappointed. He didn't care who solved the case—he just wanted it solved. Two officers and a minor had been killed. If they didn't find the culprit soon, the police force would face immense public scrutiny.

After a moment of silence, Megure nodded at Yamashita Ryo. "Take his statement, then let him go."

"Great!" Gojo threw an arm around Geto's shoulders. "Geto, let's go eat sushi! And not that conveyor belt junk. That's not real sushi! There's a famous sushi chain just around the corner, and their desserts—"

"—are delicious!" Geto finished the sentence with an exasperated eye-roll.

For Gojo, the defining measure of a good restaurant was always the quality of its desserts.

"I want sushi too!" Conan announced eagerly, raising his hand to join them. Before he could take a step, Mouri grabbed him by the collar.

"Brat, you skipped school to come here. Be ready for Ran to scold you tonight!"

"Oof!" Conan wriggled like a slippery fish, breaking free. He sprinted after Gojo and Geto. "Uncle Mouri, don't forget to bring my schoolbag home!"

Mouri scowled at the schoolbag in his hand, gritting his teeth. "Conan! You explain this to Ran yourself tonight!"

"Gojo-kun, Geto-kun, are we following Yamashita Ryo after the police release him?" Conan caught up with them just outside the apartment.

"Conan, how'd you know?" Geto asked, surprised.

Conan smirked. "Simple. Yamashita Ryo has an alibi. The police won't believe Gojo-kun's 'magical Six Eyes' and ignore his airtight alibi. But if we tail him when he lets his guard down, we might learn something."

"Wrong!" Gojo stretched lazily, placing one hand behind his head while dragging Geto along with the other. "The great teacher Gojo is getting sushi now. And lots of desserts!"
