Kiss the Scumbag-Chapter 83
The quiet sitting room was punctuated only by the occasional sniffle. Sitting side by side on the sofa, Sam smiled kindly as she gently patted Yujin’s shoulder. Though Yujin felt her warm presence, it was still hard to believe. Was this really Sam?
Seemingly understanding Yujin’s lingering disbelief, Sam tenderly wiped the tears from his face. Seeing his nose wrinkle again and tears welling up, she let out her characteristic hearty laugh.
“Oh my, after all this time, are you just going to keep crying? Stop it now, Angie’s getting worried.”
At her gentle reprimand, Yujin finally held back his tears and hurried to steady his breathing. Glancing down, just as she said, Angela clung to Yujin’s leg, looking up at him with a worried expression. Hastily wiping his cheeks, Yujin lifted the child onto the sofa.
“Say hello, Angie. This is Sam Brown.”
“Hello, Angie. I met you when you were a baby, though you probably don’t remember.”
Sam smiled as she extended her hand, and Angela clung tightly to Yujin, cautiously alternating her gaze between Sam’s face and hand. Patiently waiting for the child’s reaction, Sam watched as Angela gradually let down her guard. The little girl tentatively reached for Sam’s hand, then quickly pulled back and snuggled into Yujin again, prompting another chuckle from Sam. Feeling a mix of embarrassment and relief, Yujin naturally held Angela closer and turned her to face Sam.
“Angie, this is the person who helped a lot when you were inside Daddy’s belly. You stayed at her place until you were one year old.”
“Daddy and I used to wake up at night and take turns feeding you milk. It’s really nice to see you again.”
Taking Yujin’s words, Sam wore a gentle smile. Yujin spoke on, wanting the child to become familiar with Sam’s face.
“What brings you all the way here? What’s the occasion?”
“My partner invited me.”
Yujin’s eyes widened at the excited voice. He had heard Winston had sought her out, but didn’t expect to actually meet Sam like this. Seeing his reaction, Sam nodded.
“Yes, he asked if I could meet you. Of course, I said yes. Why would I refuse? It was a wonderful opportunity, so I accepted immediately.”
At her hearty laughter, Yujin smiled back. What a joyous thing to meet her again.
Just then, a knock sounded, and shortly after, the butler entered. After a slight bow to the guest, he turned his gaze to Yujin and spoke.
“The refreshments for the guest are ready. Would you like to move to the tea room, or should I bring them here?”
“Ah...”
After a brief thought, Yujin shifted his attention to Sam and asked,
“Sam, shall I show you around the mansion first, or would you like to rest and have some tea?”
“Oh, please show me around first. I’ve been very curious since earlier.”
Seeing Sam’s joyful face, Yujin then turned to the butler.
“We’ll have the refreshments in the tea room in an hour. Please arrange that, Cain.”
“Understood.”
The butler replied promptly, straightening his back before leaving the sitting room. Yujin then rose and extended his hand to Sam.
“Sam, let’s get up. I’ll show you around the mansion.”
“Hehe, I’m really excited. I’d only ever seen such a grand mansion on dramas before.”
Clapping her hands excitedly, the middle-aged woman was at a loss with joy as Yujin smiled and escorted her.
In the tea room, bathed in the soft afternoon sunlight streaming in long rays, the fragrant aroma of black tea filled the air. After a sip of the hot tea and a bite of rich chocolate, Sam let out a satisfied sigh.
“Oh my, my dream has really come true.”
Watching Sam’s flushed face, her expression alternately stunned and admiring, Yujin let out a short laugh. Throughout the mansion tour, her eyes had been wide, continuously sighing and exclaiming in awe, and even after sitting in the tea room, she still glanced around the room several times.
“I never imagined you’d be living in a place like this.”
She reached across the tea table and clasped Yujin’s hand tightly.
“I’m truly glad, Yujin. I feel so relieved.”
Seeing Sam’s smile as she placed her other hand over her chest, Yujin hesitated and spoke vaguely. No one knew how long this life would last. What was certain was that it wouldn’t even be a full year. By then, the fact that he couldn’t have a child would become clear, and naturally, everything would be lost.
A bitter future, but for now, he decided °• N 𝑜 v 𝑒 l i g h t •° to focus on reality. After all, Sam would only remember him living well for now, so it didn’t matter. He’d think about the future when the time came.
“I worried so much about how you were managing alone with a child. I kept praying that nothing bad would happen. But I never imagined you’d be out here in the East.”
Sam’s eyes grew moist as if recalling past events. Seeing her hastily press a napkin to her eyes, Yujin comforted her with a gentle stroke on her arm.
“It’s okay now. Don’t worry anymore.”
“Yes, it seems that way.”
Sam smiled warmly as she watched Angela playing with puzzles on the floor.
“Now that your family is back together, what could be happier?”
“Sam.”
Yujin’s eyes widened in surprise. Surely Winston hadn’t said something like that. Wondering if he was overreacting, Yujin looked uncertain, but Sam lightly rolled her eyes and scolded him.
“How can you not notice something like that? I’m a police officer, after all.”
That was true. Surprised that Sam had noticed, Yujin stammered.
“D-Do I look that obvious?”
Sam gave a peculiar smile. Oops, Yujin slumped his shoulders in defeat.
“You were fishing for information.”
“I had a hunch.”
Sam continued with a smile.
“When I first met Mr. Campbell, I immediately sensed, ‘Ah, this man must be Angie’s papa.’”
Lowering her voice as if mindful of Angela, she whispered the rest. Glancing at Angela, who was absorbed in her puzzle and paid no attention to their conversation, Yujin simply watched her, feeling both relieved and oddly hollow. Sam then asked again.
“I don’t think he knows, right?”
Yujin nodded slightly, keeping some distance. Sam took a sip of tea, appeared thoughtful, and then spoke.
“Are you two not getting along right now?”
“Is that another assumption based on a hunch?”
Dodging the question with a joking reply, Sam smiled and said,
“There’s some basis for it. The very fact that you called me here is proof.”
Tilting his head in confusion, Yujin listened as Sam added,
“If you were getting along well, would you have asked your secretary to call me immediately? And even sent a plane for me?”
“...You called Sam to mediate between us?”
Cautiously asking, she nodded.
“What happened? He didn’t say much when he came to see me. Just introduced himself as your partner.”
Suddenly at a loss for words, Yujin was speechless. When there’s too much to say, sometimes you just can’t say anything at all. He just parted his lips slightly and eventually slumped his shoulders.
“It’s a usual thing. Don’t worry.”
Ending abruptly, Sam sighed softly with sympathy. Gently stroking Yujin’s cheek, she continued.
“Don’t be too discouraged. No couple has a smooth relationship; you fight and adjust.”
“Well, I don’t expect him to adjust to me at all.”
The sarcastic tone slipped out naturally. As Yujin quickly stopped talking, Sam smiled knowingly.
“Aren’t you already doing that? If not, why else would you have gone through so much trouble to call me here? That man is completely obsessed with you.”
That was the most ridiculous thing he’d heard so far. Yujin’s mouth dropped open, dumbfounded. He sighed shortly, then answered with a frown. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓
“Sam, I know you love romance, but...”
“I still read it every night before bed.”
Winking, Sam made Yujin awkwardly smile. He never thought her intuition would be this bad.
“Um, Sam.”
Trying to change the subject, Yujin attempted to steer the conversation away. But sadly, Sam wasn’t going to let it go.
