Kiss the Scumbag-Chapter 87
Startled by the unexpected words, Yujin stopped moving and looked at him. The butler remained expressionless, waiting for a reply.
“Dinner? Me and Angie too?”
Repeating the words slowly to make sure, the butler nodded.
“Yes, he said eight o’clock.”
Yujin hesitated, unsure how to respond. Why such a sudden invitation? Angela still hadn’t opened her heart—would it be alright?
“All right, understood. Thank you.”
That was all Yujin said before turning toward the bathroom. Left alone, he began preparing to wash up, lost in thought.
He didn’t know what sudden change of heart this was...
Adjusting the water temperature and twisting the faucet, his mind grew tangled. Hearing Yujin’s story had clearly shaken Winston. He must have been deep in thought. Still, Yujin didn’t expect Winston to suddenly change so easily. Winston had firm convictions, and they wouldn’t crumble this quickly.
Unable to guess, Yujin stood silently under the water with a serious expression.
Winston returned home just before eight. Having fed Angela an early dinner, Yujin was washing and preparing her for bed when he noticed the commotion outside. Seeing the busy staff below the window and a familiar car speeding toward the mansion, he soon turned his attention to his daughter.
“Daddy, where are you going?”
After helping Angela get ready, Yujin changed clothes. Angela cocked her head in curiosity. Yujin smiled awkwardly.
“Just spilled something, so I’m changing.”
Angela accepted the excuse and lay down obediently on the bed. As usual, Yujin told her a made-up story, and she soon fell sound # Nоvеlight # asleep. After kissing the forehead of the child clutching her favorite doll, Yujin turned off the lamp and quietly stepped out. The butler walking down the hallway spotted him and approached, stopping beside him.
“Are you ready? Mr. Campbell is waiting.”
Unconsciously checking his wristwatch, Yujin saw it was one minute to eight. He took a deep breath and nodded. The butler turned and walked ahead. As they approached the familiar dining room, Yujin fought off unwelcome thoughts to avoid false hope.
The butler passed through the paneling first. As Yujin entered the dining room, Winston noticed his presence and stood. Yujin watched with mild surprise how Winston waited standing until he was seated.
The butler set Yujin’s chair and stepped aside, speaking.
“Shall we begin dinner, or wait a little longer?”
Winston glanced at Yujin as if asking his preference. Still feeling dazed, Yujin answered.
“...We’ll eat.”
“Understood.”
Winston bowed briefly in turn and gave a short nod to a staff member behind him. After the staff swiftly disappeared, the butler personally poured wine into Yujin and Winston’s glasses and withdrew.
Finally alone together, Yujin suddenly grew nervous. Why set up this meeting? Nervously sipping water, Winston emptied his wine glass and finally spoke.
“Is the child already asleep?”
A simple start. Yujin nodded briefly.
“Eight o’clock is a bit awkward...”
He trailed off, but Winston immediately caught the hidden meaning.
“Angela hates me, too?”
His tone was teasing, making Yujin flinch slightly. It was true, so he didn’t deny it. Winston looked displeased at Yujin’s silence, but luckily he didn’t press it.
Just then, the butler brought appetizers and placed them before each of them, explaining the ingredients and cooking methods in a rapid stream. Yujin barely understood half. Distracted, he let it wash over him. Winston said little afterward. Occasionally he brought up trivial topics like the quality of the dishes or current affairs, but those conversations were short. Yujin gave no meaningful replies, and Winston showed no will to continue talking. Time passed quietly.
At dessert, Yujin finally lost patience and bluntly asked.
“So why suddenly invite me to dinner like this?”
Startled by the abruptness, Winston paused and looked at him. Whether surprised by the harsh tone or the unexpected question, he no longer delayed. Looking straight at Yujin, Winston raised his wine glass to his lips. Unexpectedly, he seemed to take time choosing his words. Of course, Yujin immediately scolded himself for thinking Winston would do that.
“I’ve thought about it—what to do from now on.”
“Have the baby and that’s it. Anything else to talk about?”
Winston sighed briefly as if he’d been waiting for that.
“Darling.”
Surprisingly tired, he rubbed his eyes with one hand and continued.
“You should give me time too. I never thought we’d meet again like this and didn’t want to. And you probably felt the same. But here we are, so let’s try to understand each other from now on.”
He looked quite thoughtful. Seeing the pale face marked by worry, Yujin asked reluctantly.
“What kind of understanding?”
“Well...”
Winston muttered with a sigh, took his hands from his eyes, and looked at Yujin.
“Start by building trust. There’s none between us.”
“You just don’t trust me.”
Winston made a gesture of reconciliation, but Yujin didn’t accept it. It was simple. Winston just had to believe him. But both knew that wouldn’t happen.
“Darling.”
As expected, Winston laughed with disbelief.
“If you’d seen me rolling in bed with Evelyn, would you believe me?”
Yujin had nothing to say and just looked at him. Winston, knowing this was expected, quickly changed the subject.
“Let’s not talk about things that could be weaknesses. They won’t be resolved, and the past won’t disappear. What matters is what we do now.”
Ending the topic simply, Winston cut a brownie dessert into bite-sized pieces. Watching him, Yujin spoke.
“So what do you want?”
Yujin sat quietly, watching Winston pour wine into his glass. After setting the bottle down, Winston finally spoke. freewebnøvel.com
“Let’s start by building trust. From the beginning again.”
“Isn’t it just a matter of you trusting me?”
At Yujin’s sarcastic remark, Winston laughed shortly.
“Darling, if you want someone to trust you, you have to try first.”
He narrowed his eyes and feigned a gentle voice.
“I’ve opened my heart enough. Now it’s your turn.”
Raising his glass in a toast, Winston drank the wine. Yujin watched silently, thinking he wanted to rub that arrogant face with the brownie.
“Welcome, Mr. Campbell. As you requested, everything is prepared in advance.”
Yujin’s eyes widened at the grand scene of the enormous shopping mall. Winston smiled, pulling the frozen Yujin close with a shoulder hug. Yujin gasped softly.
“The floor shines like a mirror, Winston.”
Everything he saw after leaving the mansion was full of wonders and surprises. As he repeatedly stared out the car window with exclamations of awe, Winston made a phone call and soon arrived here. At the dazzling shop he never imagined, Yujin tensed his shoulders and whispered.
“I’m scared.”
Seeing Yujin frozen as if about to fall, Winston said with a smile,
“See? Not scared when I’m holding you.”
“Uh, uh...”
Actually, it was even scarier because of the height. But Yujin didn’t want to disappoint him, and more than that, he didn’t want to let go. So he just answered with a hesitant “Yeah.” Pleased with the response, Winston held him firmly and strode forward.
