Legacy Of The Extra-Chapter 76: Mask of Deceit(1)
Chapter 76 - Mask of Deceit(1)
"Please do visit again!"
Closing the glass-panelled door behind me, I stood in the city streets. The air smelled of various things, such as perfumes, fresh sweets and someone cooking delicious food. People filled the streets of the Royal Capital.
People with their families, children holding the hands of their mother and the mischievous ones running around. One more thing—Couples. Holding hands together out in the public and then—Oh Fuck! They are kissing, better turn around.
Gosh, go somewhere private.
There are starving bastards on the streets, too. They are definitely grinding their teeth, looking at the lovebirds.
[You're one of them, right?] Dante grinned.
Of course not. If I want, I could get any girl with me right now. I looked at a girl who was staring a bit too much at me. She averted her gaze from mine, cheeks flushed. But I choose not to.
Croft sighed.
[And you should've kept it hidden. Sorry for getting angry at you...]
You two are also being lovebirds now?
And they ignored me. I guess voices in your head can fall in love, too, or I am mentally unstable.
[That you are.]
Shut up.
Well, my first task of the day has been completed—Get a suit for the banquet. It was a good suit and I got a pretty good discount—Ahem—With my charm stat, of course.
If I had known earlier, I might've gotten better use for it, too.
It is easy to control people when you are good-looking. The handsome ones always have it easy in gatherings, and that is the truth. I know it because I was pretty average back on Earth.
[Fine, we get it. Now, move on to the next task.]
Yeah, Yeah.
My next task is to get the Mask of Deceit. It is a unique item in the game that allows one to change one's voice and appearance—of course, only the face and vocals. Your clothes won't change.
A good go-to item for infiltration, and if you just want to harass people and not get in trouble for it. And, I have a good plan to use this to my advantage.
This item can be acquired very early into the game if you have a higher intelligence stat. Yes, it was locked behind stat levels, but now this isn't a game, and I know how to solve the puzzles.
There are three sets of them, all based on confusing and contradicting the person. Deceive them and make them choose the wrong answers.
After that, they were thrown into a pit of venomous snakes.
Definitely safe.
I weaved through the crowd. If I am right, the manhole should be in one of the alleys of the shopping district. Yes, the item is down in a secret tunnel of the sewage system of Kaiserhelm.
But there are threats in the sewage tunnel, too. Since Kaiserhelm is an old City, the sewage system is infested with mutating rats that vomit acid for some reason.
They were a bunch of disgusting freaks that I found annoying in the game due to their small size. The hitboxes were pretty bad for them unless you have a spell that could eradicate them at once.
These unholy bastards are part of a crazy experiment side quest leading down to the sewers. But that does not matter now, that quest will start in year three after they overflood the Royal Capital. Prompting Raiden to help.
But that does not matter now as I have found the place.
The alleyway was dark with garbage dumped on the side. A few homeless people lay asleep in their ragged clothes.
Ignoring them, I moved the cover of the manhole, its steel was cold and dusty as if not been touched. Guess that is why the rats were not discovered sooner.
I grabbed onto fixed ladders descending down, and the lights from the sun were now completely gone. Replaced by the sound of flowing water and the sounds of rats squeaking.
I knew shit was about to get toxic.
The smell was almost unbearable, making me nauseated. The literal smell of shit and piss mixed now replaced the smells of perfumes and sweets. Well, what else can you expect down here?
Dropping from the fixed ladder, I landed on a surface as hard as a rock. It was cold down here, the contaminated water flowing down in a fast stream.

My eyes shifted to little sources of sounds. Multiple dark green eyes stared back at me from the darkness, their squeaking increasing. And then they moved.
Chhhhhhhhhh!
The swarm of rats jumped at me together, their veins pulsing with an ominous green light. I jumped back, avoiding their group strike.
Spah!
Spah!
Spah!
Green liquid flew towards me, I moved a few steps back. The liquid burned itself on the cold stone with a sizzling noise. It was their main attack and only useful attack—Acid Splash.
[Noah, why are you fighting them unarmed?!] Dante spoke out, seeing my empty hands.
These little bastards... Their acid is strong enough to melt steel. This renders weapons mostly useless because even after you kill them, their acid clings to the blade. Melting it.
In-game, you need a good spell to kill them, but I don't have something that spreads like fire. I have Frostfire, but it consumes too much mana now, and my proficiency is not good enough for me to control it properly.
A few of the rats lunged at me again, prompting me to move. Their acids flew everywhere, clinging to walls and the ceiling, but not a drop fell on me.
I am not ruining Aunt Josephine's Gift!
Tapping into my storage ring, I brought out a bottle of inflammable oil and ran towards the rodents. Dodging their every attack, I sprayed the liquid on them. Making the poor little bastards confused.
Extending my hand and channelling the mana through my circuits, I muttered.
[Lightning Bolt]
The crackling amethyst bolt flew out of my hands, striking at the pair of rodents, killing a few of them instantly. But the thing is, when something inflammable is touched by an electrical charge...
I grinned as I looked at the dead carcasses of the rats spewing out orange flames, spreading onto the live rodents. Engulfing them in the heat.
"It starts a beautiful fire."
The rats burned as they squeaked loudly, their unheard screams slowly going silent as the fire burned their throats. Their fur gone, the green pulsating veins stopped glowing, mixing with the darkness.
Mixing with the Rodents' charcoal remains.
"Huf..." I exhaled, wiping the beads of sweat that formed on my forehead. My plan had worked, and I am sure it will work again.
Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch

Even more sounds of rats resounded in the sewers, making me clutch the bottle of oil tightly. I turned around, staring at the brown the green eyes that looked at me with hunger and greed.
A twisted smile played at my lips as I readied myself for another round of dead rodents. My one hand crackled with amethyst lightning while the other held an oil vial.
"Let's end this now, shall we?"
