“Lie down!”
“Roll over!” Every command she issued could make the mice move, but suddenly, one of them died unexpectedly.
Jiang Chan explained, “This technology is still immature. I’ve discovered that this synchronization of brainwaves can cause irreversible damage to the brain. Moreover, I can only get the mice to perform these simple movements; complex actions are impossible.”
“The human brain’s mechanism is even more complex, and I can’t control the human brain, but I suspect that the Zerg, being extraterrestrial creatures, might have this technology.”
Seeing her experiments, the crowd began to partly believe her.
He Xingzhou said, “Are you suggesting that Experiment No. 9 might have this capability and has invaded Academician Pan Yan’s brain?”
“It’s very likely!” Jiang Chan said, “But it’s so smart that every time we conduct tests on it, nothing is ever found.”
“Just now, while going through the materials my teacher left me, I found that she had recorded some of its brainwave data, possibly through some special method.”
“Could that really be true?” Kong Qing, Song Jinhong, and Zhuge Yi were all very surprised. “So, it’s possible that Experiment No. 9 murdered Academician Pan Yan!”
This suspicion startled everyone, “An experimental subject, through brainwave manipulation, murdered one of our academicians?”
“We must investigate thoroughly!” Kong Qing said, “We cannot let Academician Pan’s efforts go in vain!”
“Jiang Chan, after all your research, do you have a solution?” Song Jinhong asked.
Jiang Chan said, “I only have one possible method that we could try, which is to install sensing electrodes in Experiment No. 9’s brain. We could then conduct experiments while simultaneously recording its brainwaves and translate them.”
“This method is highly risky because our brainwave sensing and related language translation technologies are underdeveloped. If the experiment fails, it might die directly!”
The group contemplated for a while, and He Xingzhou said, “Since we have evidence to prove that Experiment No. 9 possesses intelligence.”
“If it can indeed influence human brain activity, it might also understand human language.”
“We could simply interrogate it!”
“Interrogate a Zerg?” The group was initially taken aback by his suggestion, but they quickly agreed, saying, “We could certainly try that, but how would we interrogate it? It’s challenging to get it to respond.”
“Get an interrogation expert, and I’ll interrogate it!” He Xingzhou said.
The group made preparations and then went to the incubation chamber where Experiment No. 9 was located. They had even prepared wave shielding devices to prevent being influenced by it.
The white dolphin was sleeping. Normally, a dolphin’s brain hemispheres alternate during sleep, keeping it alert.
But this mutant creature was different; it slept like a human, belly up, floating on the water snoring away!
“Experiment No. 9!” He Xingzhou, Kong Qing, Song Jinhong, Zhuge Yi, Jiang Chan, and an interrogation expert arrived there; He Xingzhou was the first to speak out.
The creature still showed no reaction, as if in a deep slumber.
He Xingzhou directly ordered the AI system sentinel, “Zap it.”
A weak current stimulated Experiment No. 9, jolting it awake. Then it saw a crowd glaring at it.
The creature glared at them, clearly displeased.
He Xingzhou slapped the table and said, “Experiment No. 9, I know you can understand us!”
“We are here to interrogate you. We suspect you are involved in Academician Pan Yan’s death; you’re a murder suspect! According to our laws, murder is punishable by death! Do you understand?”
He Xingzhou shouted, but Experiment No. 9 still ignored him and crawled onto land, to avoid being shocked again.
He Xingzhou said, “Before you, there’s a holographic projection screen with human language text. You can type to communicate with us. If you can, answer my question.”
After he finished speaking, Experiment No. 9 still didn’t move.
He Xingzhou glanced at Jiang Chan; Jiang Chan stepped forward and said, “Big White, I know you can understand us!”
“I don’t want to harm you, but if you refuse to communicate, we’ll use brainwave detection instruments to probe your thoughts.”
“It will pierce your cerebral cortex; it’s very painful.”
She was bluffing Experiment No. 9, as humans did not have the technology to read biological thoughts.

He Xingzhou joined in the bluff, saying, “If we determine you’re a criminal, you’ll face the harshest punishment, perhaps made into sashimi, or braised dolphin, steamed dolphin, or even dried dolphin.”
Perhaps hearing their threats, Experiment No. 9 finally moved, lifting its body out of the water, but instead of using the projection screen, it directly spoke.
“You primitives are annoying. I just want to relax and eat without disturbance. Why do you bother me?” It spoke in Chinese, the voice thin and light, like a little human girl’s.
“It can really speak!” Zhuge Yi stood up, “After all our research, we thought you were a normal mutant, but you’re actually an advanced Zerg!”
Experiment No. 9, or Big White as Jiang Chan named it, laughed, “That’s because you’re ignorant.”
Hearing it speak, Jiang Chan asked, “Big White, are you related to my teacher’s death?”
Big White replied, “I neither had the inclination nor the capability to kill a native.”
“She was already quite elderly, and kept trying to force brainwave communication with me. Her brain couldn’t take it. You should be thanking me; without me, her research into Zerg language wouldn’t have advanced so quickly!”
“You could speak; why didn’t you directly communicate with us?” Song Jinhong asked.
Big White replied, “Why? Why should I engage with a bunch of lowly primitive natives? You’re all going to be eradicated by the Zerg anyway.”
“Aren’t you a Zerg?” He Xingzhou caught a crucial point in its words, “What are you? Are you also extraterrestrial?”
“Why should I tell you?” Big White laughed.
“Because your fate is in our hands now!” He Xingzhou emphasized.
“That’s just what you think.” Big White scoffed, “Even if you kill me, so what? Do you really think I’d die? You primitives have no idea about the true technology of an advanced civilization!”
The group was increasingly puzzled. Wasn’t this creature Zerg? It wasn’t afraid of death? From its words, it seemed like humans couldn’t kill it.
“Then, can you tell us why your advanced civilization came to Blue Star? What’s your connection to the Zerg? Why are you a dolphin?” He Xingzhou asked.
“You don’t deserve to know,” Big White said, “Since you know I can speak, I warn you not to do anything rash, or you’ll regret it.”
“Weren’t you not afraid?” He Xingzhou asked.
“Of course I’m not afraid; I just don’t want to waste resources for no reason,” Big White said. “Oh, this room is too small; I need a bigger place to live. Also, the food here is terrible—I need a chef.”
“Have this little girl be my nanny!”
It pointed at Jiang Chan.
“Fair exchange!” He Xingzhou said, “Since you have demands, you should provide us with some information.”
Big White thought for a moment, then said, “Makes sense.”
“You want to know if the Zerg can control biological brains, right? I can tell you, they can!”
“Some advanced Zerg can influence other creatures’ thoughts through brainwaves. If they synchronize brainwaves, they can even control human actions. Although this causes irreversible brain damage, they don’t care; you’re going to be wiped out anyway!”
Hearing its words, everyone was taken aback. They realized they knew far too little about the Zerg!
He Xingzhou pressed further, “Tell us more about the Zerg, anything you know.”
