Legendary FBI Detective-Chapter 293 - 360p, 480p, Looking Toward 1080p
East Los Angeles.
Reesi was driving the SUV on the highway, with Luo An sitting in the passenger seat, checking his weapons.
"Why am I the one driving this time?"
As she steered the SUV around a corner, Reesi voiced her curiosity.
"Because I didn't sleep well last night."
Luo An yawned; he had been through quite a bit the previous night.
"Alright."
Reesi glanced at Luo An, pondered for a few seconds, then said softly,
"The information you wanted is done and is now in a folder in the team leader's office."
Reesi is always quick to get things done. After taking the funds from Luo An last night for some shopping, by this morning, the team leader's office had already undergone a transformation.
New desks and chairs were sorted, and there was even a potted plant whose name Luo An didn't know.
However, there was no new computer, so Luo An planned to pick one from the six computers in the office area to take in later.
Besides, there was still plenty of empty space in the office, and Luo An had been thinking about getting a foldable couch for resting alone or together on regular days.
But Mona argued that they wouldn't stay in Los Angeles for too long, and buying a couch would be a waste of funds.
After her strong protest, Luo An reluctantly abandoned the idea.
However, Luo An took note of this. There's a study in the apartment they shared, and he planned to buy Mona several outfits that suit the study's ambiance during future holidays.
"Thanks."
Hearing what Reesi said, Luo An gave her an approving look, then, ignoring Reesi's rolling of her eyes, turned his gaze back to the window, silently opening the system interface in his mind.
For the bank robbery case, Luo An had downed two potions: [Stamina Potion] and [Featherfall Potion].
After cracking the case, the system rated Luo An as excellent and awarded him four treasure chests containing [Swift Potion x2], [Danger Perception Potion x1], [Painkiller Potion x1].
Currently, in Luo An's system inventory, there were:
[Bleeding-Stop Potion x5]
[Detox Potion x3]
[Swift Potion x2]
[Strength Potion x2]
[Sensitivity Potion x2]
[Painkiller Potion x4]
[Featherfall Potion x1]
[Stamina Potion x6]
[Sleep Potion x2]
[Water-Breathing Potion x2]
[Weakness Potion x1]
There was quite a stockpile of [Stamina Potion] in the inventory because the system rewarded him with excellent ratings for the incident when Luo An's Porsche exploded, and he managed to kill the enemies in return. But the next day, all four potions awarded were [Stamina Potion].
Luo An figured the system must have noticed his frequent interactions with Mona and concluded he needed more stamina potions.
After the bank robbery, the [Danger Perception Potion] rewarded by the system, as usual, was promptly consumed by Luo An.
As Luo An had expected, his "Emotional Perception" ability had been upgraded.
If Luo An's ability to sense others' attitudes and emotions towards him was to be equated to a resolution, it was probably less than 360p initially.
After drinking the new [Danger Perception Potion], although it hadn't reached 480p, 360p was already more than sufficient.
The progress might seem slow, but Luo An was patient. As long as he kept solving cases, the frequency of getting [Danger Perception Potion] would surely increase, and it was only a matter of time to upgrade to 1080p or even 2k.
Luo An made another discovery: when he first obtained the "Emotional Perception" ability, to sense someone else's emotions, he had to be face-to-face with them, with not too much distance between the two.
After drinking this new potion, Luo An sensed that he could maintain a slightly greater distance, probably about three to four meters.
"In other words, from now on, anyone within four meters who harbors ill will against me can't escape my eyes."
His eyes narrowed slightly, and Luo An licked his lips.
Now he was a bit curious about who the lucky person would be, the one to first experience his new ability.
Reesi drove at a decent speed, and they soon arrived at the community where "Wild Dog" Victor Ke Thomas Jemore lived.
Stepping out of the car, they walked into the community together following Mona's guidance and entered one of the buildings, where they encountered several LAPD officers processing a case.
Showing their identification and exchanging a few pleasantries with the officers, Luo An and Reesi were astonished to discover that the LAPD were handling the case of "Wild Dog" Victor, the very person they were looking for.
"Victor is dead?"
Entering the room Reesi asked with a surprised face:
"How did he die?"
"From the preliminary situation at the scene, it looks like he was suffocated with a pillow," the leading LAPD captain explained as he extended his hand to shake with Luo An.
"The deceased had been behind on rent for a week, and the landlord didn't want to wait anymore, so two hours ago, he brought someone with him to demand the rent.
After knocking on the door for a long time with no response, they heard the sound of a phone ringing inside the room, so the landlord used his own key to open the door."
"And then they found Victor's body."
Luo An nodded and continued the captain's story as he walked into the room.
"That's right."
The LAPD captain followed behind Luo An, stating that his colleagues carried out a brief investigation into the area. There were no surveillance cameras in the building, nor any witnesses who noticed anything amiss, leaving them without any suspects.
However, the community had surveillance at its two exits, and the LAPD had gone to investigate, possibly making some discoveries.
No fingerprints were found at the scene other than those of the landlord, landlord's brother, and the victim himself, but the landlord and his brother could vouch for each other, providing alibis for the estimated time of death.
"What about the cell phone?"
Luo An asked as he briefly surveyed the scene:
"Have you investigated the deceased's cell phone?"
Just as the LAPD captain was about to reply, Reesi came over with a cell phone stored in an evidence bag, saying with a smile:
"There wasn't enough time. The LAPD were busy with the scene, and investigating the cell phone takes a bit longer, so they were planning on checking it later."
Seeing the situation, the LAPD captain shrugged and spread his hands.
There wasn't much they could do. LAPD has always been short-staffed, and each captain was handling at least two cases at a time, so this wasn't out of the ordinary.
"Thanks for your hard work."
After offering some words of comfort, and seeing two LAPD officers busy inside the bedroom, Luo An continued to inquire:
"Did you find any unique drugs in this room?"
"We found some marijuana."
"Anything else? Such as fentanyl or carfentanil in pill form."
"No, we didn't find the two substances you mentioned."
Seeing the LAPD captain shake his head repeatedly, Luo An and Reesi looked at each other.
According to last night's chat logs between Anthony and Victor, Victor had just gotten a hold of fentanyl and carfentanil and still had quite a bit left. It was unlikely that he had sold all of it so quickly.
If these two drugs weren't found in the room, it meant that either Victor had hidden them elsewhere, or they were taken by the person who killed Victor last night.
After talking a bit more with the LAPD captain, Luo An, on behalf of the FBI Special Investigation Team, took over the murder case. They then notified the Evidence Processing Department agents to come take over the scene from the LAPD.
That afternoon, Reesi went to the Evidence Processing Department to collect Victor's autopsy report.
Sitting in the office area with a cup of coffee, Luo An sat by as Mona was at her computer. She had opened Victor's phone and found several interesting chat records inside.
