Life In The Limelight : I Married A Gamer Girl-Chapter 53: Research : Camping
Chapter 53 - Research : Camping
Kazuma and Masako had finally settled on a theme for their new game—slice of life. To make it as immersive as possible, they decided to experience every activity firsthand. Their first challenge? Camping.
As they arrived at the campsite, Masako stretched her arms, breathing in the fresh air. "Ahhh... nature! The great outdoors! The scent of trees, the sound of birds, the—oh dear god, are those mosquitoes already?"
Kazuma chuckled as he pulled the camping gear from the car. "You sound excited and miserable at the same time, sweetie."
Masako swatted at an invisible bug. "I am excited, dear. But let's make sure our game includes bug spray as an essential item."
"Noted." Kazuma grinned as he handed her a backpack. "Now, let's set up the tent. No shortcuts. We're doing this the real way."
Masako groaned dramatically. "Ugh, manual labor..."
"You mean actual effort?"
She shot him a glare before sighing in defeat. "Fine, but if I break a nail, you're paying for my next manicure."
They struggled for a bit—well, Masako did, anyway—but eventually got their tent standing. Next, they moved on to fishing. Sitting by the lake, Masako leaned against Kazuma, yawning. "Fishing is boring."
Kazuma smiled as he adjusted his grip on the rod. "It's supposed to be relaxing."
Masako rested her head on his shoulder. "Wake me up when I catch something."
Just as she closed her eyes, her fishing rod suddenly jerked. She let out a startled squeak. "Huh?! I got something?!"
Kazuma moved behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist and gripping the rod with her. "Easy, sweetie. Reel it in slowly."
Masako's face turned pink. "D-Dear, you're a little close—"
"Focus, Masako." His voice was teasing, but firm.
She pouted but obeyed, and together, they reeled in a surprisingly large fish. Masako gasped, eyes shining. "I caught it! Well, we caught it!"
Kazuma smirked. "See? Teamwork."
Masako nudged him playfully. "Maybe fishing isn't so bad after all."
After their successful catch, they decided to explore the nearby forest. Masako, always curious, wandered toward the edge of a rocky cliff, admiring the view. "Wow... the scenery here is amazing!"
Kazuma, who was busy checking their map, looked up just in time to see her foot slip. "Masako!"
Before she could tumble over, he lunged forward, grabbing her wrist. Masako gasped, her golden eyes wide as she dangled slightly over the ledge. "D-Dear?!"
Kazuma gritted his teeth, pulling her up with all his strength. The moment her feet touched solid ground, she collapsed against him, breathing heavily. His hands remained firm on her arms, his blue eyes filled with concern. "Sweetie... why do you always find trouble?"
Masako gave him a sheepish smile. "Because it makes life interesting?"
He sighed, pressing a kiss to her forehead. "At least let me be around when you decide to risk your life."
She giggled, hugging him tightly. "Okay, okay... Thanks for saving me, dear."
They laughed off the incident, but just when they thought the excitement was over, Kazuma suddenly tensed.
"Masako... don't move."
"Huh? Why—"
Then she heard it. Rustling.
Slowly turning her head, she locked eyes with a bear.
There was a long, silent pause.
Masako whispered, "Oh."
Kazuma whispered back, "On the count of three... we run."
"One..."
The bear sniffed the air.
"Two..."
It grunted.
"Three—GO!"
They bolted, running through the forest at full speed.
"WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?!" Masako shrieked.
"REALISM, REMEMBER?!" Kazuma shouted.
They ran until the bear lost interest, eventually collapsing onto the ground in exhaustion. After a moment of silence, Masako started laughing, her voice filled with exhilaration.
Kazuma groaned but smiled. "I swear... why does everything turn into a life-or-death situation with you?"
Masako smirked, leaning into him. "Hey, at least we have good material for the game now."
He shook his head with a fond smile. "You're unbelievable."
She kissed his cheek. "And you love me for it."
He chuckled, brushing some dirt off his clothes. "Yeah, yeah. Let's go back to camp and roast some marshmallows. No more near-death experiences for tonight."

Masako giggled. "Deal."
As the stars sparkled overhead, the two sat by the fire, roasting marshmallows and laughing about their chaotic day. Research for their game had never been so adventurous, but as long as they had each other, every moment was an unforgettable one.
