Limitless The Strongest Revenant-Chapter 1030: In chaos [1/2]
As the girls and I returned to the meeting theater Lilly had, we saw that everyone was present. A feeling I could not describe lingered in the air. But it was one I knew extremely well. It was the worry that ate at you before you made a big move.
The feeling of uncertainty.
"The lord and ladies have arrived! Hellsend! Greet your master!" Joshua called out.
At once, the Awakened, the Specters, Vela's Wolves, and the Seraphs of Satis all stood up. They then slammed their right fists twice into the left side of their chests. My bro-salute that somehow got promoted to the official Hellsend show of respect.
"WE GREAT OUR LORD LIMITLESS! HAIL! WE GREAT THE LADIES, THE SEVEN SIRENS! HAIL!"
I couldn't help but smile. I didn't enjoy the attention. But I felt pride in seeing such powerful people acknowledge my lovers. This was probably the first time they were greeted separately from me. The greeting was simple, but it gave them status.
I nodded but said nothing. I turned my eyes towards the Africans. Amari stood at the head of their group. His five brothers, along with Olamide, stood behind him. I didn't bother to remember the faces of his entire party, but I did find the people I deemed vital.
Mia Flair, the man's Kindred and a Linker from Europe.
Zanele Soldat, Amari's mother and a member of IRIS. The Analyst. And above all, the Immortal's lover.
Induna Nomvula Nkosi, a powerful shifter who serves as a troop leader for the ENSAE army.
Each had backgrounds that made their situation complicated. Yet they all stood behind Amari. Meaning despite their own circumstances, they intended to rally behind Amari for the sake of Africa.
There are currently two factions competing for dominance in the African landscape.
The conservatives who wish to keep the status quo. And the Reformists who wish to change it. Hell's Eden had a problem with both.
We couldn't support the conservatives because they want Africa to stay isolated. Their way of life was built on the sacrifice of the noble sons of the continent. Even if I didn't give a crap about the people they used as mortar, I couldn't support them.
For one, their choices ensured that Africa would never get stronger. The corruption that came into play aside, Onye had no intention of helping the rest of the world.
As for the Reformists, I similarly couldn't root for them. They wanted to fight other Reapers, not help against Hellsgate. It was stupid. Their entire goal was to dominate the rest of the continents on Earth.
I was no expert on politics. But after the girls and Exa explained it, I knew both groups were equally useless. I knew this even before we came here. Originally, I didn't give a crap, but meeting Zanele changed everything.
So, to steer Africa into my desired future, I would butcher both parties. Then, I would instill Amari as the head of a third faction. Instead of strengthening Amari through normal means, we will just kill the competition until he is the last one left.
'During times like this, only the results matter.'
I gazed at and tried to analyze Amari's state. He looked tired. As if he aged decades. But his eyes showed a firm determination. The girls already showed the horror that awaits his countrymen. As he hasn't tried to stop us. He made his choice.
'Exa.'
[Yes, my lord.]
'The moment Amari or any of his retinue makes actions to betray us. Shatter their souls. I don't care who. I will not risk this operation failing. The only one I will not allow to die is Zanele. For those without my {Kismet}. Feed them to the Awakened.'
[I understand; I have relayed your instructions to Juno and Roach.]
I shifted my gaze towards the monsters saluting me. Roach and Juno both acknowledged me. Roach licked his lips in hunger, his body arched down as if he looked forward to his new task. Juno closed her eyes and nodded her head solemnly.
'Beloved, I feel you lack faith in people. Please do not assume the worst. Amari has proven to be a faithful ally.'
'I wish I could blame Dearest, but considering the elders and Nomvula, it's the right decision.'
'Ignore Liv, Possum. I agree. Blow them if they look at us funny.'
'Darling, should I just place them all under {Thrall}? That way we can be sure they'll never betray us!'
'Stop being stupid, Nutjob; save your {Fate} for the princes. Let's just kill them and hide their bodies within the Aegis Division. I got {Instigator}, my soulgear maxed. I can control more corpses now.'
'Husband, set your heart at ease; I will keep an eye on Nomvula. I will take her out the moment she tries anything.'
'Anata, do you want me to place a 'knife' on them? I only have five at the moment, but I can assign them as insurance if it pleases you.'
Hearing the words of my harem, I sent affection through our links. It felt like sending them a virtual hug. Calming, pleasurable and enough to make you feel all the good in the world.
'I am sorry, everyone. It's just that despite your newfound strength, I will always be a worrywart when it comes to your safety. That is the one thing I will never gamble with. Aki, Jo, do not mind me; concentrate on your tasks. Juno and Exa can handle it.'
As we mated like animals, my worry bled into my thoughts. The girls, wanting to calm my nerves, sent me details about their new {programs}, combat styles, and their soulgear.
Put simply, they all upgraded their soulgears much like I did. Only as {Day by Day} was Wraith rank, it only had three {Fates}. In contrast, all the girls had Phantom rank soulgears. When we entered the 24th floor, they used the soulgears as they were.
Now?
After endless battles, they began to customize the soulgears. This created amazing synergies to their {Fates} much like my own soulgear. Additionally, the girls began to co-create {Programs} for each other.
It gave rise to incredibly overpowered abilities they dubbed the Sin Series. Sadly, I could not use any of them. It was fortunate that I had my own power-up; otherwise, I would be lagging behind.
The knife my Kamisan referred to was from her new {Program}. Her terrifying version of the "Sword of Damocles." It was basically an ability that tags a target for extermination, much like {Sins of Limitless}.
Shifting my attention back to the Africans, I waited for a few moments. The groups in the theater all had their own thoughts, goals, and reservations. But at this moment, none of that mattered. The original thought I had just a few days ago was now a fully fledged operation.
And once I gave the command. The lives of hundreds would be sealed. Millions would be impacted. Thousands would die in just the opening moments. While I killed thousands of zombies, this one act would be the moment my words shaped a continent.
A strange sense of omnipotence lingered. The thought of my newfound power began to paralyze me. I could now decide the future of millions of lives. But I shook it off. I have long since made my decision.
While history might remember this moment as the start of my spiral into madness, I hardly cared. All for the future I sought, I willingly chose to burn the souls of thousands. For the strength I sought. For the hope of my family.
"I choose to break this reality," I murmured.
I raised my hand towards my people. Usually I had to say some smart, cheesy speech about the needs of the many or some shit. But I had nothing. I could cover my actions with all the valid arguments as plentiful as the stars.
But it was simply because I was selfish.
