Chapter 63: Cloaked figure

Another sudden gust of wind blew Ryu and pinned him to the door.

Yuki instantly got to her feet, summoned her blade, and jumped towards the railings again, but stayed in mid-air this time, swiping the blade and breaking the railings, sending the wooden pieces down.

A cloaked figure flew out of the balcony and onto the altar, holding a Great Sword.

The wind abruptly ceased, releasing Ryu from the door with a jarring thud against the cold stone floor. freewёbnoνel.com

Yuki, on the other hand, landed heavily, the impact reverberated through her bones. Her blade sang as it sliced through the air, joining Ryu’s attack on the figure.

Summoning his own blade...

He moved like a shadow, his sword coming in the form of a whirlwind of fury, each strike was precise—a deadly dance around the stained-glass windows.

With a resounding crash, a shattered rose window rained down, showering them in a cascade of coloured glass shards.

Ryu’s blade connected with the cloaked figure, sending it sprawling against a towering marble pillar.

The pillar cracked under the impact, a fissure snaking across its polished surface. Yuki sprang onto a pew, using it as a springboard to launch herself across the vast space.

She sliced through the air, narrowly avoiding a collapsing section of the vaulted ceiling. The cloaked figure, recovering with surprising speed, countered with a sweeping blow that sent a cloud of stone dust and debris spiralling from the altar.

A beautifully carved angel tumbled, crashing to the floor with a deafening thud.

Ahh~

"Who the heck are you!?" Ryu roared, driving his sword deep into the cathedral’s floor. The impact sent tremors throughout the structure, the sound echoing like thunder.

He used the resulting fissure as leverage, catapulting himself towards the cloaked figure with terrifying speed. Their blades clashed with a metallic clang, a shower of sparks illuminating the dust-filled air.

The force of their strikes resonated through the building, sending more chunks of the already damaged ceiling tumbling down.

The cloaked figure, wielding its great sword like a battering ram, smashed through a row of ornate pews, splintering wood and sending debris flying. The sound of wood cracking filled the air.

Yuki unleashed a relentless barrage of strikes. Her blade whirled in a muderous pattern, each blow hitting hard with a sharp thwack, forcing the cloaked figure to defend against her onslaught.

She chuckled and continued.

"Show me what you can do, weird one!!"

With a sudden misstep, the cloaked figure lost its footing and crashed through a massive stained-glass depiction of the Last Supper.

The glass exploded outward, fragments scattering across the floor like confetti, catching the flickering light from the candles.

The fight continued, moving through the cathedral like a storm.

Pew after pew splintered, stones crumbled!

Ryu and Yuki pressed their advantage, breaths heavy and muscles straining as they fought against the cloaked figure, which retaliated with powerful, sweeping strikes that sent shockwaves through the air.

"You freaking prevent! I didn’t know you were such a womaniser!" Yuki called out for no reason.

The clash of steel rang out, punctuated by the sounds of heavy breathing and the distant creaking of the walls.

"The place is going down! Yuki, careful with the rampage!"

Ryu ducked beneath a wild swing, feeling the rush of air as the blade narrowly missed him. He countered with a swift thrust, but the cloaked figure sidestepped, the blade grazing its cloak and sending a ripple of fabric into the air.

Yuki launched herself at the figure once more, her blade arcing down in a fierce overhead strike. The cloaked figure raised its sword just in time, the two blades met with a clang that echoed through the cathedral.

Sparks flew again, radiating the dust swirling around them, and for a moment, all three were caught in a tableau of violence and determination.

Ryu and Yuki strained against the cloaked figure. But the figure, recovering from its earlier missteps, now fought with renewed intensity. It unleashed a series of sweeping strikes, each one was powerful enough to shake the ground beneath them

With a guttural roar, the cloaked figure swung its great sword in a wide arc, the blade humming as it cut through the air.

Ryu barely managed to duck in time.

The impact sent shockwaves through the stone floor, causing debris to scatter.

Yuki leapt aside, narrowly avoiding a shower of splintered wood as another pew was demolished in the figure’s wake.

The cloaked figure advanced relentlessly, moving almost like a blur. It lunged at Yuki, who barely had time to parry the blow. The clash sent a jarring vibration up her arm, and she stumbled back, struggling to regain her footing. The figure followed up with a swift kick, catching her in the midsection and sending her crashing into a wall.

The impact rattled her bones, and she gasped for breath, the wind knocked out of her.

Ryu turned to face the cloaked figure. The creature was relentless, turning its attention back to him with a predatory glint in its glowing eyes. With a bellowing roar, the figure swung its sword again, aiming for Ryu’s head.

He ducked low, rolling to the side just as the blade sliced through the air above him, cleaving a deep gash into the stone wall behind.

"What the....? And I can’t kill this thing yet, I have to figure out what or who it is..." Ryu said inwardly.

Dust and debris rained down, and Ryu could feel the heat of the figure’s rage radiating toward him.

The cloaked figure lunged again.

Ryu and Yuki, now on the defensive, struggled to keep pace with the relentless assault. The figure’s sword met their blades with a resounding clash, sending vibrations through their arms.

The figure grew increasingly desperate, swinging its sword in wide arcs, every strike became more powerful than the last. The force of its blows shattered nearby stained glass, sending shards to the ground.

With a powerful thrust, Ryu drove his sword deep into the cloaked figure’s side, forcing it to its knees. Yuki followed up with a strike, knocking the great sword from the figure’s grasp. The weapon clattered onto the ground.

Breathing heavily, Ryu and Yuki stood over the fallen figure, swords poised.

The cloaked figure raised its head. As they leaned closer, they could see its eyes—glowing a deep, unsettling purple, filled with a mix of rage and despair.

Ryu reached down and grasped the edge of the figure’s cloak, pulling it away to reveal what lay beneath. But instead of flesh, he found the figure clad in darkness that flowed and writhed like a living shadow, obscuring all of its features. Only the glowing purple eyes remained visible, piercing through the inky blackness.

The two stepped back in shock, a sudden red cross appeared on the figure’s chest and hand, glowing fiercely against the darkness that enveloped it. The air around them thickened, charged with an ominous energy.

Before they could react, the figure erupted in a blinding flash of light. The darkness flowed off its body like smoke, swirling around the room before dissipating into nothingness.

In moments, the figure was reduced to ashes, scattering across the stone floor, leaving behind only the faintest whisper of its presence.
