Having wet clothes was a pretty awful feeling.

Zhao Xuanwen pinched the soaked fabric of her shirt between her fingers, her face showing clear frustration.

Half of her hoodie was soaked through—you could wring water out of it with a squeeze. Her black leggings were also mostly wet. Wearing clothes like this was far from comfortable.

She glanced around the living room, then headed toward Liu Zhiyue’s room. She pushed the door open and walked over to the bed.

Crouching down, she leaned her face closer, pressed her lips together, hesitated for a second, and finally spoke in a soft voice.

“My clothes are wet… what should I do…”

“Ugh…”

A low, unintelligible groan came from Liu Zhiyue. His head felt heavier and heavier, but upon hearing Zhao Xuanwen’s voice, he forced himself to open his eyes.

It took a lot of effort just to move his head. He looked toward the girl crouched beside his bed. Blinking slowly, his breathing grew heavier.

And the moment he turned his head—her face was right there, practically inches away. Though they’d sat next to each other for two years, this was the first time Liu Zhiyue had ever looked at her so closely.

Her hair reached just past her neck, and a few wispy bangs covered part of her forehead, making her big eyes stand out even more. Her nose wasn’t overly sharp, and her nose tip was perfectly proportioned.

Her lips had a faint gloss—probably from lip balm she applied before coming over.

And… she’d clearly showered before coming here.

He could smell a light fragrance from her. Liu Zhiyue recognized it—it was Head &Shoulders.

Staring at her, his thoughts started spiraling out of control.

This made Zhao Xuanwen a little self-conscious. Though she was the one asking him for help, being stared at like that still made her uncomfortable.

Her eyes darted around, and her hand tightened around the edge of the bed sheet. When she spoke again, her voice was a little shaky.

“Having wet clothes feels awful… and it’s not like… I meant to…”

That snapped Liu Zhiyue out of his spiraling thoughts. He blinked again, looked at her as she turned her eyes away, then thought for a moment.

“Just change…”

“But if I go home to change, then you…”

She trailed off mid-sentence. After a brief pause, her previously wandering gaze locked straight onto Liu Zhiyue’s face.

“You mean… you want me to wear your clothes?”

“…Yeah.”

“Well, since you’re saying that… I’ll get you some water to drink first.”

Without another word, Zhao Xuanwen shot up and hurried out the room, heading straight for the basin of water she’d prepared earlier.

She didn’t hear what Liu Zhiyue muttered right after:

“Y-Yeah… like hell…”

Crouching by the plastic basin, Zhao Xuanwen reached out to feel the glass cup’s temperature.

Obviously, it hadn’t cooled down enough yet. It was still too hot to hold, even through the glass. She quickly shook off the water on her hand.

Then she wiped it on her already soaked clothes, stood up, and looked toward the clothes hanging near the window. She walked over and touched one of them.

It was dry.

The size made it clear these were Liu Zhiyue’s. A white crewneck sweatshirt printed with some designs—it didn’t look like something Liu Changqing would wear. Next to it was a tracksuit that hadn’t fully dried yet.

Zhao Xuanwen grabbed the drying rod, took the white sweatshirt down, removed it from the hanger, and placed it into a nearby plastic basket.

She brought it over to the sofa and set it down. Then she took off the hoodie she had come in, leaving her in her damp leggings and a T-shirt.

Next, she pulled on the white crewneck sweatshirt.

Once she got it on, she looked down. Because of their size difference, the sweatshirt looked way oversized on her—it covered nearly two-thirds of her thighs, and the sleeves completely swallowed her hands.

Looking at the long extra fabric hanging from the sleeves, she suddenly felt like those opera singers on TV with the exaggerated long sleeves.

She gave them a playful wave and decided to roll the cuffs up, revealing half her forearms.

Once done, she went to the doorway and changed into a pair of cotton slippers. Then she returned to the sofa and peeled off her wet black leggings.

She planned to dry them with a hairdryer.

Compared to the hoodie, her leggings weren’t nearly as wet.

Holding the leggings, Zhao Xuanwen, now wearing Liu Zhiyue’s sweatshirt, went into the bathroom. She found the hairdryer, plugged it in, and started blowing at the damp areas.

WHIRRRRRRRRR!

The powerful noise echoed through the house. Liu Zhiyue, still lying on the bed, could hear it clearly—even though he had no idea what she was doing.

Despite his body’s weakness, he struggled to sit up, put on his slippers, and wobbled out of his room.

His eyes immediately landed on the plastic basin sitting in the living room. He had no idea why that was even there, but there was no time to think about it.

He followed the sound to the bathroom.

And then—he saw her.

Zhao Xuanwen, holding a hairdryer and drying her black leggings.

His eyes went wide.

“You… what are you doing?”

His voice wasn’t loud, but Zhao Xuanwen heard it clearly. She quickly turned off the dryer and looked at him standing at the doorway.

“You’re up? Why?”

“…Why are you wearing my clothes?”

“Didn’t you just tell me I could?”

Zhao Xuanwen blinked, genuinely confused. But noticing how unwell he looked, she quickly set the dryer on the sink.

Holding her leggings in one hand, she reached out with the other and grabbed his arm, trying to guide him back to his room.

But it was obvious Liu Zhiyue didn’t want to go back.

He grabbed the front of her borrowed sweatshirt, his voice flustered and anxious.

“Take it off… If my parents come back…”

“Just go lie down and rest. I’ll switch back once my clothes are dry—”

“No, I…”

Under normal circumstances, Liu Zhiyue wouldn’t be this scattered. But being sick, his brain just wasn’t firing right.

His instincts were screaming at him: if Liu Changqing and An Yuanyao came back and saw Zhao Xuanwen wearing his clothes—it was going to be bad.

Especially after what happened yesterday with Zhang Yunjing.

Today…
