Male Lead's Canon Fodder Wife-Chapter 1389: A Done Deal ( 1 )
Pan Chiyan looked at his cousin and sighed. After his cousin joined the military and became an undercover agent, his personality had changed so much that he could no longer guess what he was thinking.
At this moment, he couldn't even connect him with the upright soldier he used to know. The person in front of him was a businessman, someone who lived on the dark side.
Houzi noticed his cousin's emotions, but he didn't care. The act he once put on had long become a part of him after pretending for so many years.
Now, he wasn't even sure which side of him was the real one anymore. If he couldn't figure out who he really was, how could anyone else?
Seeing that his cousin was still smiling at him with a business smile, Pan Chiyan sighed and said, "I will send you the money tonight."
Hearing this, Houzi nodded and replied, "Once we receive the money and the written agreement, the grain will be sent to the capital as soon as possible."
"Good. Thank you for your help, Cousin," Pan Chiyan said.
Houzi waved his hand and changed the topic. "Cousin, since you are here, do you want to visit Jiajia?" he asked.
Since he had never visited Xie Village, Pan Chiyan did have the intention to go see his sister. But because he was here for an important mission, he hesitated.
Noticing this, Xie Xuanzi said, "We still have to wait for the documents and funds from the capital. After we report the progress, we can stay in Xie Village for a few days and return after the grain is delivered."
"Okay," Pan Chiyan agreed readily.
Before they left, Houzi packed up some steamed buns, scallion pancakes, a jar of meat sauce, and two bottles of soy milk for them.
As he handed the food to them, he said, "Cousin, I will go back and inform Jiajia so she can prepare your room."
Accepting the food, Pan Chiyan smiled and said, "I will go visit her at noon."
"Good."
After they reached an agreement, the three of them left the black market. While Pan Chiyan and Xie Xuanzi went to visit the mayor to discuss the funding to buy grain, Houzi rode his bicycle to the county town hospital.
When he reached the hospital, it was eight o'clock in the morning. There weren't many people around—just a few staff members and nurses doing their work.
Houzi walked to the counter, carrying a cotton bag. Seeing him coming, a nurse smiled and asked, "Comrade Zhao, are you here to visit Doctor Gu again?"
Outside the black market, people knew him as Zhao Jun, the adopted son of Xiao Yiqing's mother, Zhao Xirui. Aside from his close family members, no one knew that he was the son of a criminal family—Su Jun.
Smiling at the nurse, Houzi placed the cotton bag on the counter and replied, "There is no need to bother Yaoyao. Comrade, please help me send this to her and remind her to rest and take care of her health."
The nurse looked at him and said meaningfully, "Comrade Zhao, you really care a lot about Doctor Gu."
Houzi chuckled when he heard her words and said, "Yaoyao lives far from her family. As her friend, it's only right that I take care of her."
After saying that, he took out a pack of White Rabbit candies from his pocket and added, "Comrade, I will have to trouble everyone to take good care of her."
Accepting bribes was forbidden and considered a crime, but receiving small gifts was allowed. Since he didn't give money, just candies, the nurses were more than happy to accept.
After some small talk, Houzi left the hospital and headed to Xie Village to inform his cousin of Pan Chiyan's visit.
Not long after he left, the nurse brought the cotton bag with her as she left the counter.
Hearing the knock on her door, Gu Mengyao said, "Come in."
Seeing that it was the nurse, she asked, "Xiao Jiao, what's wrong?"
Xiao Jiao placed the bag on the desk and said, "Doctor Gu, your friend sent you something again. He also asked me to remind you to take a rest and not harm your health."
When she heard this, Gu Mengyao smiled and said, "I know. Thank you."
Xiao Jiao's eyes flickered at her casual reply and said, "Doctor Gu, you are so lucky to have a friend like Comrade Zhao. He really cares about you."
Gu Mengyao assumed the message was from her grandfather and didn't think too much about it. She chuckled and said nothing.
Seeing this, Xiao Jiao's mind began to spin. It seemed that only Comrade Zhao had feelings for their friendship. Since Doctor Gu didn't seem interested in him, she wouldn't be upset if she pursued him, right?
Such a handsome and caring man was hard to come by. If she could marry him, she would be able to live a pampered life for the rest of her life.
Unaware of the nurse's hidden thoughts, Gu Mengyao said, "If there is nothing else, you can go back to work."
"Yes, Doctor Gu."
At the same time, Pan Chiyan and Xie Xuanzi were sitting across from the mayor in his office.
Since the two of them had come to the city, Mayor Sun had lost his appetite and sleep. In just a few days, he had lost a lot of weight and looked haggard.
Looking at the mayor's thinner face, Pan Chiyan sighed and said, "Comrade Sun, you look haggard. Have you been feeling unwell lately?"
Hearing this, Mayor Sun let out an awkward chuckle and replied, "Well, there is a lot of work to do since it's almost time for the autumn planting. After this period, I will be able to get more rest and won't be as tired as I am now."
Pan Chiyan nodded and said, "It's indeed a very busy period. Comrade Sun, you must take good care of your health. We still have to rely on you to manage this city."
