Chapter 134: CONFRONTATION

HONG SERA wasn’t comfortable meeting Jin Minki alone after everything that had happened between her and Han Raehyun.

But she didn’t want to run away anymore.

Still, to be safe, she brought Jin Minki to Unreal— the concept café where everything looked 2D in the photos.

It was the Crybabies’ favorite hang-out place.

I feel safe here because the staff members know me since I’m a regular here.

The café was practically empty, though. It must be because there was a newly opened café nearby.

To be extra safe, Hong Sera also sent a text message to Cho Euntak.

Me: Euntak-ah, I’m here at Unreal with Jin Minki. Can you come and pick me up after your class?

She thought about sending a message to their group chat, but she changed her mind when she remembered that Park Sohee was busy with his brother’s problem. That was also the reason why she didn’t send a message to her group chat with Kim Heedo, Yang Jaewon, and Kwon Gaon.

I don’t want them to worry, and I know Heedo is with Sohee Oppa.

"Sera-ya, how long are you going to ignore Han Raehyun?" Jin Minki asked, breaking the silence that had started after they had gotten their iced coffee. "Is it because of me?"

"Why would you think it was because of you?"

"You know why."

"No, I don’t."

"Sera-ya, Han Raehyun and I are just friends."

Haaah.

Hong Sera knew Jin Minki would say that.

It wasn’t the first time Jin Minki "assured" her with those words.

In the past, she would just smile and nod.

But not anymore.

Like what Heedo said, I should stop letting these people walk all over me.

"I know that you and my boyfriend are just friends," Hong Sera said calmly, sipping her coffee before saying something that she would say for the first time: "I’m the only one he sleeps with, and the only one he does couple things with— not you, or not anyone else for that matter. Because I’m his girlfriend."

Jin Minki looked shocked by what she said. "Sera-ya—"

"I know that you and Han Raehyun are just friends. But how about you? Are you aware that you’re just a friend to Han Raehyun?"

"What do you mean by that?"

"You don’t know your place, Jin Minki," Hong Sera said bluntly. The moment she decided to stop being a pushover, she was already ready to burn bridges— be it the bridge that led her to Jin Minki, or the one that led to Han Raehyun. "But I can’t blame you. You crossed the line because I let you. I stupidly shared Han Raehyun with you all because I still see you as a victim."

"Are you picking a fight with me, Hong Sera?"

"I am— and I am ready to burn bridges."

"What?"

"It’s high time for you to remember that you’re just Han Raehyun’s friend, Jin Minki," Hong Sera said indifferently. "And I’ll stop seeing you as a victim. It’s up to Han Raehyun if he still wants to run to you whenever you call him, but I won’t let it slide this time."

"What do you mean by that? Are you going to break up with Han Raehyun if he runs to me once I call him?"

"Yes, I will."

"Are you going to threaten him?"

"I’ll probably come clean first."

"Hong Sera!"

"You weren’t raped that day— you were dating that teacher."

Jin Minki suddenly turned pale, but he didn’t refute what Hong Sera said.

He couldn’t even if he wanted to.

Because I’m telling the truth.

"I accidentally found out that you were dating that man because he was one of the teachers at the hagwon that I used to attend— and I saw you making out with him in one of the empty rooms at the academy," Hong Sera reminded Jin Minki. "You begged me to keep it a secret from Han Raehyun because you didn’t want him to find out that you were dating a much older man. And I agreed to keep it a secret because you promised you’d break up with that person."

Jin Minki shut his eyes tight as if he didn’t want to hear anymore.

But Hong Sera wasn’t done yet.

"That didn’t happen, though."

Because, soon, the sexual assault that Jin Minki claimed happened.

"That day, your mother called Han Raehyun while he was with me. Your mother was worried because you weren’t home yet, and you weren’t picking up her call. So, Han Raehyun tracked you using your phone. The three of us were using a tracking app then, remember?"

Jin Minki opened his eyes to glare at her. "Stop it, Hong Sera."

"The app led us to a cheap motel far from our neighborhood," Hong Sera said, continuing her story despite Jin Minki’s protest. "You must have felt embarrassed that Han Raehyun caught you with your much older lover. I was surprised when you claimed that you didn’t know the man, that he dragged you there. And since you were in heat, you weren’t able to fight back when he used his pheromones to subdue you."

"I said stop—"

"Han Raehyun beat up that teacher before he could even explain," Hong Sera said, ignoring Jin Minki. "But do you know why that person never opened his mouth to claim that he was your lover? Why he didn’t deny that he raped you?"

Jin Minki knitted his eyebrows.

"Yes, it was because of me. I let my brothers’ scary bodyguards threaten that man. That if he so much as mentioned your name, he’d wish he was dead instead of imprisoned," Hong Sera said, smiling bitterly. "I did that for you because even though you were "dating" that old man, you were still a victim. You were a minor, after all. So, I used my family’s power to make sure that the man would rot in jail."

That was the truth.

Jin Minki wasn’t raped by a random man.

However, Hong Sera still saw him as a victim.

After all, a minor couldn’t really give their consent to a much older person. Even if the minor thought they were dating their much older partner, they were still considered a victim.

Only bad adults will have a romantic and sexual relationship with a minor.

"Are you going to tell Han Raehyun everything?" Jin Minki asked nervously. "After you’ve been quiet all this time?"

"I only kept my mouth shut because I felt guilty. Because if I told Han Raehyun about your much older lover, then he would have told you to break up with that person without all that mess," Hong Sera said. "But you took advantage of my silence, Jin Minki. And I’m done sharing Han Raehyun with you."

"Hong Sera, I was already Han Raehyun’s friend before he even met you."

"I know— and you will always remain as his friend."

"Are you implying that I’m hoping to be more than a friend to him?"

"Are you not?"

Jin Minki just scoffed instead of answering directly.

"Honestly speaking, though... it seems like Han Raehyun also forgot that you’re just his friend," Hong Sera said. She didn’t want to admit that, but she had to be honest with herself. "But if he still wants to stay with you even if it means hurting me, then by all means, get together already. I’m tired of you two making me feel pathetic."

"Han Raehyun loves you, so don’t you dare hurt him."

"Then don’t you dare get in the way of our relationship," Hong Sera said, getting up. "Jin Minki, let’s stop pretending to be friends already."

***

HONG SERA entered her car and before the doors locked automatically, the door to the passenger seat opened.

And then Jin Minki sat in the shotgun seat.

"What do you think you’re doing, Jin Minki?" Hong Sera asked, glaring at the man. "Do you want me to call my bodyguards?"

It was a mistake to not bring her bodyguards today.

I should have waited for Euntak at the café.

But she was so upset earlier that she walked out and went straight to her car.

"Let’s go and meet Han Raehyun," Jin Minki said sternly. "The three of us need to talk."

Hong Sera fell silent for a moment.

It was true that she wanted to talk to Han Raehyun since she had been ignoring his calls for a while now.

Maybe it’s better for the three of us to talk to each other face-to-face.

Hong Sera’s train of thought was only interrupted when she heard a loud noise, followed by a blinding headlight hitting her eyes.

She was shocked when she realized that a mini dump truck was about to plow her car.

No...!

***

CHO EUNTAK hurried to Unreal after his class.

He was relieved to see Hong Sera’s car parked in front of the café.

I’m glad Noona is still there.

But he got worried when he saw that Hong Sera wasn’t alone in the car— Jin Minki was in the passenger seat.

Is this why Noona wanted me to pick her up?

Cho Euntak was about to cross the street when, all of a sudden...

SCREEECH!

That was the sound of a mini dump truck losing its control— and then it went straight to Hong Sera’s car, hitting it without mercy.

The people who witnessed the horrifying scene all screamed.

"No!" Cho Euntak yelled worriedly, his heart dropping to the floor. "Sera Noona!"

His heart was beating hard and fast against his chest, and his hands were trembling.

No, actually, his entire body was shaking.

However, he forced himself to pick up his phone and call for help.

But something else caught his eye.

The driver of the mini dump truck immediately got out of the vehicle and slipped away by blending with the growing crowd around the scene of the accident.

Cho Euntak knitted his eyebrows.

That’s suspicious...

Of course, it could be just the driver wanting to avoid responsibility.

But there was still something off with that person, so Cho Euntak raised his phone and took several pictures of the driver until he disappeared from his sight.

I hope I’m wrong, though.
