Chapter 312: Chapter 206 Strategies Generated in Motion_3
He slowly asked, "May I ask what your price expectation is?"
Everyone’s gaze turned toward Chen Cheng, who was seated a table away.
He slowly set down his teacup and said, "550 million."
The interpreter translated Chen Cheng’s price accurately: "550 million."
The people at the table, including Wen Shulin, all widened their eyes upon hearing Chen Cheng’s quote.
David and the others were surprised. The equity worth more than 2 billion was being undersold by Chen Cheng.
Wen Shulin, on the other hand, was puzzled. This was completely contrary to the strategy devised during last night’s exercise.
But she didn’t say anything else because she had faith in Chen Cheng.
Seeing that some people were almost baring their teeth, Chen Cheng added,
"What I said is in dollar, US dollar."
He leaned back into his chair, knowing full well that everyone had understood, yet he raised his hand to signal the interpreter, "Translate, translate."
The brief three words were like a heavy bomb, causing an uproar in the conference room.
Behind David, Steve adjusted his glasses in disbelief, as if questioning whether he had misheard.
Catherine slightly furrowed her brows, her sharp gaze fixed on Chen Cheng, trying to find a trace of jest on his face.
Meanwhile, the ever-silent John picked up his pen and rapidly jotted something down on the folder in front of him, his eyebrows furrowed as if he was making some complex calculation.
A hint of both reproach and delight that went unnoticed flickered in the corner of Wen Shulin’s eyes.
She had not expected that Chen Cheng would discuss a billion-dollar deal with such nonchalance, as if he were haggling in the street.
And this was precisely the outcome she wanted.
"Mr. Chen, are you certain you did not misspeak?"
David took a deep breath, trying to control his emotions, "4 billion, this price is really..."
Unexpectedly, Chen Cheng continued to respond inversely, "Too low? Have I given you all a great surprise?"
David and his team whispered among themselves for a moment; Chen Cheng could actually understand them – this was completely beyond their expectations.
"Mr. Chen, we at CGG have come here with full sincerity for this acquisition," David continued, "According to our preliminary research, the market value of the Xingye Products shares you hold..."
Chen Cheng interrupted with a raised hand, continuing, "Yes, your report is quite accurate."
"But."
"But what?"
Chen Cheng smiled and cast his gaze toward Wen Shulin, "It’s you who insist on buying, isn’t it, Chairman Wen?"
The air in the conference room seemed to freeze, all eyes focused on Wen Shulin, waiting for her answer.
Wen Shulin crossed her legs elegantly, her fingers lightly tapping on the tabletop, her face wearing the ever-professional smile that gave nothing away.
"Mr. Chen jokes."
She spoke calmly, "As an internationally renowned investment company, CGG maintains a high level of interest in any project of value."
"We have also recognized the potential of Xingye Products, but any investment must be based on a rational assessment."
She paused, her gaze sweeping over David and his assessment team, "David, should we take a recess to discuss this?"
Upon hearing Wen Shulin’s words, David’s hanging heart finally settled.
He understood that Wen Shulin was giving him a way down and indirectly telling Chen Cheng that CGG could not accept the price of 4 billion.
"Of course, Chairman Wen, you are correct."
He nodded eagerly in agreement, "We need to communicate with our headquarters before we can give a final response."
He stood up and gave Chen Cheng a polite smile, "Mr. Chen, please wait a moment. We will return shortly."
After saying that, all of CGG’s people, including Wen Shulin, rose, bowed slightly to Chen Cheng and then quickly exited the conference room.
Chen Cheng watched their retreating figures and raised his eyebrows.
He understood that the real show had just begun.
