Moonlight Betrayal-Chapter 46
Chapter 46: Chapter 46
Chapter 46
Astrid’s POV
"So, what do you think about the pack?" Rebecca asked, her eyes sparkling with anticipation.
"This is... how much money do you guys make? This is huge," I said, my voice filled with awe.
Rebecca laughed, shaking her head. "Truthfully, a huge amount. I don’t know if Kaeleen has told you but most people in the pack are independent. They make money themselves and contribute to the pack one way or another and this is years of hard work also, not just one day."
"I know that but...damn! When Kaeleen described this place he never told me that it was like something straight out of a fairytale because that’s what this looks like. Everything is so majestic and beautiful. It all seemed well taken care of."
"That’s because it is. Like I said, everyone contributes." She told me.
This was so different from the Moonshade pack and the few people I’ve met weren’t even judgemental. They referred to me as their Luna and I wasn’t even the Luna yet at least officially and there was still the issue about the mating ritual. That has to be completed first before I could even take on the role of the Luna but these people didn’t seem to care.
"I think we should take a break," Rebecca said, interrupting my thoughts. "I’m starting to get tired, and I’m sure you are too." freeweɓnovel.cѳm
"Yeah, I could use a rest," I admitted. "My head is still spinning from all the luxury."
Rebecca laughed, linking her arm through mine. "Let’s go back to the main building," she said. "We can grab something to eat, and then we can relax for a while."
We turned around, walking back towards the building where I had taken my shower. As we walked, I noticed that the sun was starting to set, casting a warm glow over the pack grounds. It was a beautiful sight, and I felt a sense of peace settle over me.
We reached the building and walked inside, heading straight for the kitchen. Rebecca explained that there was always food available, no matter what time of day it was.
"There is a cook who prepares meals for Kaeleen," she said. "She makes sure there’s something in the fridge and also prepares extra because sometimes, people tend to eat here."
We entered the kitchen, and I gasped, my eyes widening in amazement. It was even more impressive than I had remembered. The counters were spotless, the appliances were gleaming, and the pantry was overflowing with food.
Rebecca walked over to the fridge, opening it and peering inside. "Let’s see what we have," she said, her voice thoughtful.
After a moment, she pulled out two containers. "How does lasagna sound?" she asked, holding them up. "Or we have some chicken pot pie."
"Lasagna sounds amazing," I said, my stomach rumbling at the thought.
Rebecca smiled, placing the containers on the counter. "Great choice," she said. "I’ll heat them up."
She grabbed the containers, placing them in the microwave and setting the timer. While the food was heating up, she grabbed two plates and two forks, placing them on the counter.
"So," she said, turning to me with a smile. "What do you think of the pack so far?"
I hesitated for a moment, unsure how to answer. There was so much to say, so much to process.
"It’s... incredible," I said, my voice filled with awe. "I’ve never seen anything like it. Everyone is so kind, so welcoming. And the luxury... it’s overwhelming."
Rebecca laughed, shaking her head. "I know," she said. "It can be a lot to take in at first. But you’ll get used to it. And you deserve it, Astrid. You deserve to be happy, to be comfortable, to be loved."
The microwave beeped, signaling that the food was ready. Rebecca pulled out the containers, placing them on the counter.
"Let’s eat," she said, grabbing the plates and forks.
We sat down at the table, digging into the lasagna. It was delicious, the noodles soft and tender, the sauce rich and flavorful, the cheese melted and gooey.
"This is amazing," I said, moaning with pleasure. "It’s so much better than that bland porridge I had to eat while Leon held me captive."
Rebecca’s face clouded over with concern. She reached out, squeezing my hand reassuringly. "You’re okay now, Astrid," she said. "You know, I almost killed Leon myself when you walked away with him." She told me.
I opened my mouth to speak but she shook her head. "I understand why you did it. I mean I was pissed at first, not at you but at your sister and Leon but then I thought about it and even if Serena or Kaeleen and I weren’t in good terms, I’d still sacrifuce mysekf to keep them safe."
Her words made my eyes sting with tears. "I no longer consider her my sister." I told Rebecca but before she could ask, I quickly continued eating.
I did not want to answer questions about Clara. I’m not sure I’ll ever want to answer questions about my sister anymore. As far as I was concerned, I had no family.
We continued to eat, the silence broken only by the clinking of our forks and the occasional sigh of contentment. After a few minutes, I started to feel a little self-conscious.
"Are you sure it’s okay for you to be here?" I asked Rebecca, my voice hesitant. "You’re a busy woman, a senator. You have important things to do."
Rebecca smiled, shaking her head. "Don’t worry about me, Astrid," she said. "I wanted to welcome you to the pack. You’re important to Kaeleen, which means you’re important to me."
I felt a warmth spread through my chest. It was so kind of her to take time out of her busy schedule to welcome me.
"Thank you," I said, my voice filled with gratitude. "I really appreciate it."
Rebecca smiled, winking at me. "Besides," she said, "I wanted to ask you something."
"What is it?" I asked, curious.
Rebecca hesitated for a moment, then took a deep breath. "How would you feel about a welcome party?" she asked, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
"A welcome party?" I asked, confused. "What do you mean?"
Rebecca explained that the pack members wanted to throw a party to welcome me to the Emerald Glade. They wanted to show me that they were happy to have me, that I was one of them now.
"Oh, no, that’s not necessary," I said, shaking my head. "I don’t want to cause any trouble."
Rebecca laughed, waving her hand dismissively. "It’s not trouble at all," she said. "The pack members are the ones who came up with the idea. They’re really excited to meet you."
"But..." I protested.
"Don’t worry," Rebecca said, squeezing my hand reassuringly. "It’ll be fun. And it’s a good way to meet everyone, to get to know the pack."
I hesitated for a moment, then decided to ask. "When exactly is this party?"
Rebecca winced. "Um...this evening?"
"Rebecca!"
