Moonlight Betrayal-Chapter 50
Chapter 50: Chapter 50
Chapter 50
Kaeleen’s POV
The weight of Astrid’s words settled heavily on my shoulders. I had promised her space, time to heal and process, but the waiting was going to be agonizing. I wanted to protect her, to claim her, to show her the depth of my feelings, but I knew I had to respect her boundaries.
As I stood there, lost in thought, Alex approached, a mischievous glint in his eyes. He had undoubtedly been watching our conversation, and I braced myself for his inevitable teasing.
"Remember that bet we talked about this morning?" Alex asked, a grin spreading across his face.
I nodded, a faint smile tugging at my lips. The bet, a ridiculous competition among the pack members to see who would be the first to properly greet Astrid, seemed like a distant memory now, overshadowed by the complexities of my feelings for her.
"Well," Alex continued, his eyes sparkling with amusement, "I entered. Or rather, Rebecca did. Guess who won?"
He paused for dramatic effect, and I rolled my eyes, already knowing the answer.
"Let me guess," I said, my voice dry. "Rebecca."
Alex burst out laughing, clapping me on the shoulder. "You got it."
I knew she was going to win. Rebecca had been one of the first people to meet Astrid given the fact that we had all gone to the Moonshade pack together. When Shadow had started the bet, he wasn’t expecting that Rebecca would join in. He was planning on winning everything by himself because nokone knew that he had been the one to bring her into the pack although, I was sure that everyone knew now.
I chuckled, shaking my head. Rebecca was fiercely competitive, and I could only imagine the lengths she had gone to in order to secure her victory.
"Shadow was not happy when he found out," Alex added, his eyes twinkling with mischief. "He grumbled a lot when he realized Rebecca had entered the bet. He thought he had it in the bag."
We shared a laugh, the lighthearted banter helping to ease the tension that had been building inside me. Alex had a knack for knowing when I needed a distraction, and I was grateful for his presence.
After a moment, Alex’s expression turned serious, his eyes searching mine. "Everything okay with Astrid?" he asked, his voice laced with concern. "Your conversation looked a bit heated just now."
I sighed, running a hand through my hair. "It’s complicated," I said, my voice low. "She’s still dealing with a lot, and she’s not sure if she’s ready for a relationship." ƒгeewebnovёl.com
Alex nodded, understandingly. "Give her time, Kaeleen," he said, his voice gentle. "She’ll come around. Just be patient, and show her that you’re there for her."
"I know," I said, my voice resigned. "It’s just... hard."
We fell silent, observing the party around us. Pack members were laughing, dancing, and enjoying themselves, oblivious to the turmoil that was raging within me.
After a few minutes, I couldn’t contain my curiosity any longer. I had always admired Alex’s relationship with Rebecca, their easy banter, their unwavering support for each other. I wanted to know how he had managed to win her heart, to build such a strong and lasting connection.
"How did you do it, Alex?" I asked, my voice low and hesitant. "How did you get my sister to fall for you? How did you get her to open up to you?"
Alex looked at me, his brow furrowed in confusion. "You do know that Rebecca is not Serena, right?" he asked, his voice a little incredulous.
I shrugged, feeling a bit foolish. "Yeah, yeah, I know," I said, my voice dismissive. "Just humor me."
Alex chuckled, shaking his head. "Well," he began, his eyes twinkling with amusement, "Rebecca has always been a flirt, and I’ve always liked her, from the first time I saw her. It wasn’t really that much work to get Rebecca to fall for me because Rebecca is an open person. She hardly has any worries, she’s free and jovial."
He paused, his expression softening. "Her cunningness is one of the reasons why I love her so much, and it actually suits her very well," he added, his voice filled with affection.
I listened intently, trying to glean some insight from his words. Rebecca was indeed an open and jovial person, but I knew there was more to it than that. There had to be a secret, a key to unlocking her heart.
"Honestly, Kaeleen," Alex continued, his eyes searching mine, "if you actually need advice from anybody, you should get advice from Hunter, who is Serena’s mate. He’s the one who had to break through all her walls and convince her that he was worthy of her love."
I nodded, considering his suggestion. Hunter was indeed a wise and insightful man, and he had undoubtedly faced his own challenges in winning Serena’s heart. Unlike Rebecca who was open and jovial, Serena was quiet always keeping her cards to herself.
I never even thought she was ever going to get married with how quiet she was and she had a string of bad relationships but Hunter had changed that thought. He wasn’t a werewolf but human and he and Serena matched each other well. Alex was right. If I needed advice on how to get Astrid to trust me, then I needed to speak with Hunter. He had experience.
I took a look around. I hadn’t seen Serena when I first walked into the pack compound and I still could not find her now. Had I missed her? But then she was the kind of sister that would have approached me if I didn’t approach her. I’ve spent close to an hour here and I still hadn’t seen her.
"Where is Serena?" I asked, my eyes scanning the crowd.
She usually didn’t miss pack events, especially when there was a new member to welcome. And with how much she wanted to meet Astrid, I thought she would be here.
