Chapter 27 - 27: Wood Release vs. Susanoo

"Uchiha Xiuyu, we've obtained reliable intelligence. If nothing unexpected happens, the war between the Uchiha and Senju will break out in the next two or three days."

The Great Elder had summoned Su Xiuyu delivering the latest intelligence.

"If you're planning to take action, you should start preparing now. I don't know which side you intend to stand on."

"Thanks for the information, Great Elder," Su Xiuyu replied. "I've already made my decision. I won't be joining the war—I'm going to save them. Even though staying neutral means offending both sides, I don't regret it."

He had made up his mind long ago. This time, he was caught between Hashirama and Madara, and the only way forward was to act on his own terms.

"Are you sure about this?" The Great Elder sighed. "Usually, trying to appease both sides means pleasing neither."

Su Xiuyu nodded. This war was inevitable. The grudge between the Uchiha and Senju had festered for too long—both sides needed an outlet for their hatred. Madara and Hashirama were chasing their own visions of the future, and there was no stopping them now.

"Very well, I won't try to dissuade you. The Uzumaki clan won't interfere in this battle, but I can lend you some support. You can take Uzumaki Mito, Uzumaki Masahiko, and Uzumaki Hibiki with you—think of it as a little assistance on our part."

Su Xiuyu couldn't help but feel unworthy of such generosity. He had already learned so many sealing techniques from the Uzumaki clan, and now the Great Elder was sending warriors to aid him on the battlefield.

Only today did he truly understand the Uzumaki clan's customs. Their sealing techniques weren't shared with outsiders—not even men who married into the clan were allowed to learn them. It wasn't because he had Mito's affection that he was taught, but because the Uzumaki clan had placed high hopes on him.

They had given him everything without asking for anything in return.

"You don't need to feel indebted," the Great Elder said, sensing Su Xiuyu's hesitation. "Once we of the Uzumaki clan make up our minds, we give without expecting repayment. Just treat Mito well in the future."

Su Xiuyu bowed slightly. "I will, Great Elder."

"Then go find Mito and the others. They've already packed. You can leave today."

With a wave of his hand, the Great Elder dismissed him. Watching Su Xiuyu's 's departing figure, he sighed softly.

"I don't know if this is right or wrong... The fate of the Uzumaki clan is in your hands now, Mito."

---

Once they were ready, they departed from Uzushio Village and set out on their journey.

"Xiuyu! I finally get to go out with you!" Mito said excitedly, her energy infectious.

Every trip with Su Xiuyu was an adventure.

Her enthusiasm softened the weight of the coming war, making the world feel a little less cruel. They talked and laughed as they traveled, an odd contrast to the Warring States period's endless bloodshed. Su Xiuyu had long since grown confident in his strength. If the Otsutsuki didn't interfere, then aside from Hashirama and Madara, he was one of the strongest in this era.

Behind them, Uzumaki Masahiko and Uzumaki Hibiki trailed at a distance, reluctant to intrude on the couple's moment.

"Man, this is rough. We're out here traveling, but all we're getting is a front-row seat to their flirting," Masahiko groaned.

Hibiki smirked. "Speak for yourself. I have a wife—happily married, I might add. You're the only lonely one here."

Masahiko fumed. "What the hell's that supposed to mean?! Are you calling me unwanted?!"

Hibiki chuckled. "Am I wrong? Look around—everyone else here has someone. Even the dogs at my house have partners. You? Still single. Mito and Su Xiuyu are all lovey-dovey, while you..."

"Listen here, you bastard!" Masahiko snapped. "You remember that time the toilet exploded? That wasn't an accident—I did it on purpose! I blew it up just because I saw you in there!"

Hibiki's expression darkened. "You son of a—! I knew it! I've suspected for years! You're dead!"

Without another word, the two started brawling, fists flying but holding back just enough to avoid real injuries.

Su Xiuyu glanced at Mito. "Should we... stop them?"

Mito waved him off. "Nah, just let them go. They've been fighting like this for decades. The first time you saw me, they were there too, but they ran off to fight near the village perimeter. That's why you didn't notice them."

Su Xiuyu didn't push the matter further.

"Mito... the Uzumaki clan has done so much for me..."

"Don't feel pressured," Mito said, brushing off his concern. "Even if the clan didn't teach you our Sealing Techniques, I would've taught you anyway. The outcome would've been the same."

Su Xiu Yu looked at her calm expression and nodded. There was nothing more to say.

---

They arrived at the Uchiha clan's territory in the afternoon. The moment they were spotted, the guards rushed off to inform Madara.

"Xiuyu, you're finally back," Madara said, stepping forward. His sharp gaze shifted to Mito and the others. "Why'd you bring the Uzumaki with you? Aren't they allied with the Senju?"

"The Uzumaki clan won't be taking sides in this war," Su Xiuyu explained. "Only the Uchiha and Senju will be fighting. Mito and the others are here as my personal allies."

Madara's eyes narrowed. "You know this battle between Hashirama and me is inevitable. Even if the clans let go of their grudges, the fight is unavoidable. We have to see this through."

Su Xiuyu sighed. "I know. Even if you and Hashirama share the same dream, this battle will decide who takes the first step toward it."

Madara raised a hand, cutting him off. "You don't have to explain. You're my brother, just like Izuna. You don't need to take sides."

Su Xiuyu understood Madara's pride—outsiders often mistook the Uchiha's pride for arrogance, but it was more complicated than that.

"Madara, if nothing changes, the Uchiha won't have to worry about an Uzumaki-Senju alliance anymore. The Uzumaki will slowly distance themselves from the Senju and take a neutral stance."

Madara gave him a sharp look. "Wait... you didn't abandon your surname and marry into the Uzumaki, did you?"

Su Xiuyu rolled his eyes. "No. I'm still me. I don't know why the Uzumaki are investing so much in me, but Mito assured me there's no hidden agenda."

Madara chuckled. "Hmph. The Uzumaki are playing a long game, but it benefits you. If things continue this way, you'll eventually lead them."

Su Xiuyu blinked, but Madara wasn't finished.

"Honestly, I've always had this feeling that your connection to this world is too weak," Madara mused. "But now you have people who care about you—a woman who loves you, a clan that believes in you. Maybe that'll change things."

Su Xiuyu froze.

He had never truly considered it before, but Madara was right. Despite forming bonds with Hashirama, Madara, the Uchiha, Mito, and the Uzumaki, there had always been an invisible wall between him and this world.

Because he wasn't from here.

But looking at Mito beside him, Madara and Izuna before him, and the lively Uzumaki clan in the distance...

He realized something.

He had already gained so much without even realizing it.

----

"Today, we go to battle against the Senju clan! May our Sharingan be victorious!"

Early in the morning, the Uchiha clansmen gathered to see off their warriors. Fathers, sons, and brothers stood in solemn preparation as their families carefully adjusted their armor, fastened their skirt plates, and whispered desperate prayers for their safe return.

Su Xiuyu and Mito stood silently, watching the scene unfold, unsure of what to say.

"Just watch," Uzumaki Masahiko muttered, for once dropping his usual comedic persona. "For those about to march into battle, the last thing they need is to see tears. They must go forward with the belief that death is inevitable."

"Uncle Masahiko... are you feeling sentimental?" Su Xiuyu asked.

Masahiko let out a low chuckle, shaking his head. "I've lived too long to feel anything about this. After more than a dozen wars, large and small, emotions become numb. Peace? That's the real luxury in times like these."

Su Xiuyu exhaled and turned toward Mito. "Mito, when we're on the battlefield, stay within ten meters of me at all times. I'll make sure you're safe."

Mito nodded seriously.

"Let's go!"

---

At the edge of the Valley of the End, the Senju and Uchiha clans stood in formation, facing off in yet another war.

"Madara," Hashirama greeted, his voice steady. "It's been a long time."

"Hashirama," Madara replied, gripping his Uchiha war fan. "Here we are again, locked in battle. But this time... this time, I can fight you as an equal." He pointed his fan toward Hashirama. "Let's put an end to this today—Uchiha versus Senju!"

"There's no point in wasting words," Tobirama interrupted, forming hand seals. "Water Style—Water Dragon Bullet!"

Madara smirked and effortlessly swung his war fan. "Uchiha Reflection!" The water dragon attack was redirected, dispersing with a violent splash.

"Tobirama, your opponent is me!" Izuna declared, stepping forward to meet Hashirama's younger brother.

"Kill!"

"Kill!"

The battlefield erupted into chaos.

"Earth Style—Earth Dragon Bullet!"

"Fire Style—Phoenix Claw Fire!"

Explosions of earth and fire tore through the battlefield, scattering debris in every direction. But amidst the destruction, there was one area left untouched—the space where Madara and Hashirama stood. The battlefield instinctively yielded to the two titans, leaving them their own stage.

"Madara," Hashirama sighed, shaking his head. "I don't want to fight you anymore. There's no point in meaningless bloodshed."

Madara scoffed. "Don't talk like you're some noble martyr who can defeat me anytime."

Without another word, he weaved hand seals. "Fire Style—Great Fire Annihilation!"

Hashirama responded instantly. "Earth Style—Earth Flow Wall!"

Ninjutsu clashed violently, sending shockwaves through the valley. The ground trembled beneath them as fire met earth, canceling each other out in an explosive display of power.

"Enough of this warm-up, Hashirama," Madara declared. The tomoe in his eyes spun rapidly, merging into something new. Suddenly, an immense aura of materialized chakra burst forth from his body, forming a skeletal frame with massive arms and ribs.

Hashirama narrowed his eyes.

"This is the true power of the Uchiha," Madara said, his voice reverberating through the valley. "This is Susanoo! Don't die too easily, Hashirama."

Hashirama formed a Wood Release seal. "Four Pillars Prison Technique!"

Thick wooden pillars erupted from the earth, attempting to trap Madara's monstrous form—but with one powerful swing of Susanoo's arm, the wooden prison shattered.

"You think a simple technique like that can restrain me?" Madara sneered. "Wood Release is powerful, sure—but it's not enough!"

Hashirama remained calm. "Then let's see how you handle this."

Susanoo's skeletal frame began to grow muscle, then skin, until a fully armored warrior stood in Madara's place, towering at over a hundred meters. A massive chakra sword gleamed at its waist.

Seeing the transformation, Izuna barked out an order. "Uchiha! Fall back!"

Tobirama wasted no time either. "Senju! Retreat immediately!"

Both sides scrambled away from the battlefield. Against Madara's Full-Body Susanoo, ordinary warriors would be nothing but collateral damage.

"This power is terrifying," Tobirama muttered under his breath, watching Madara's form from a distance. "It's pure destruction."

Hashirama, however, was unfazed.

He clasped his hands together. "Wood Release—Tree World Birth!"

From the ground, an entire forest surged upward, attempting to ensnare Susanoo in its grasp.

But with a single chakra-infused sword swing, Madara cleaved through the massive trees, tearing them apart as fast as they could regenerate. The battlefield transformed into a war between two gods, leaving the mortal soldiers nothing to do but watch.

"That giant... is that the power of the Uchiha?" a young Uchiha warrior murmured in awe.

"Lord Tajima never wielded such strength," another replied. "But Lord Madara... he's surpassed anything we've ever seen."

On the Senju side, the reaction was the same.

"Is that... really just ninjutsu?" one of them muttered, watching in disbelief.

"Lord Hashirama can change the very land itself with a single jutsu... how is this even possible?"

Despite the awe and admiration from both sides, Izuna and Tobirama held their forces back. There was no point in interfering—the battle was beyond them.

"Madara!" Hashirama called out. "The war is over! We don't need to fight anymore!"

Madara laughed, his voice echoing through the valley. "Over? Hashirama, we've barely begun! You haven't even seen my full strength!"

With a surge of chakra, Susanoo shed its armored form and transformed once more—becoming a complete humanoid warrior, radiating pure destructive energy.

"Madara, don't push me," Hashirama warned.

"Spare me the speeches!" Madara roared. "Fight me, Hashirama!"

Hashirama sighed before weaving a new series of hand seals.

"Wood Release—Wood Dragon Jutsu!"

A massive wooden dragon erupted from the ground, coiling around Susanoo like a serpent, its powerful jaws clamping onto the colossal warrior. The battlefield shook violently as the two titanic forces clashed.

Madara drew both chakra-infused blades, slashing at the Wood Dragon relentlessly. But no matter how many times he cut, the dragon continued to regrow and tighten its grip, refusing to be destroyed.

"Hashirama!" Madara bellowed. "Show me everything you have! Give me a battle worth remembering!"

Hashirama exhaled slowly.

"...Very well."

He clasped his hands together once more—and the earth shook beneath them, heralding the arrival of a technique that would shake the very foundations of the world.
