Chapter 144 - 144 - The Seven Blades of the Sword God

After Rygar announced his challenge, almost all the practitioners gathered in the Ephemeral Hall to watch the fight.

Timothy and Rygar were on opposite sides of the hall. A Sword Emperor and a Sword King.

Generally, it was the custom of the Sword God's Style that, to rise in rank, the two strongest Sword Saints dueled in front of the Sword God.

The winner would be named Sword King. The same happened among the Kings, who dueled, and the victor was considered the Emperor.

But the truth is that the one who made the rules was Gall Farion. As the current Sword God, he had the authority to name anyone at any moment.

And, as there were no other Sword Kings at the moment, Rygar would challenge someone one rank above, just as Ghislaine had done when he was out in the Red Dragon Range.

Around the two combatants were all the disciples, including Eris, Nina, Jino, and Nigav.

Reida, Aisha, and Isolte were not with the Sanctuary's disciples, but they also watched from a corner.

And the Sword God was in his usual place. Gall Farion declared:

"This is a special situation. Rygar, you are seeking the title of Sword Emperor, a test of your mastery of the techniques of this school. So, only use techniques exclusively from that style."

Rygar nodded. Timothy prepared himself.

He had already lost several times to Rygar in combat over the last year, but if it was only sword speed, he was confident he could beat the brat.

Finally... After all, he was beginning to lose his confidence after so many defeats.

He would win this time and show the kid that he still had a long way to go, and that following several swordsmanship paths at the same time without focusing on anything would not take him as far as those who dedicated their lives to it.

Rygar was serene. When he took a deep breath, a calm smile formed on his lips.

He didn't move, just staring at Timothy.

The two stared at each other for long seconds, which soon turned into a minute... and into two...

The tension was palpable. Rygar had not moved; he was in a deadly stillness, with that calm smile on his face.

That was rare, considering he was always the first to attack in their sparring sessions.

Timothy felt an instinctive fear growing within him. He had already lost several times against Rygar, and the kid never lost his calm in battle.

Timothy thought that he was aiming for a counterattack. He had already suffered counterattacks of all kinds fighting against Rygar... but this time, it was only the Sword God's Style.

As much as Rygar managed to use the techniques of the Water God Style and the North God Style, to prove his mastery, he would probably rely on the Longsword of Light.

The place was silent. Sweat accumulated on Timothy's face as he stared into the golden eyes before him, as if they could see everything about him.

Timothy was holding his sword high above his head, but Rygar was in a striking posture, showing that he was confident in his analysis of the opponent.

The Emperor was apprehensive. Was he going to lose?

A drop of sweat fell from his forehead, dripping toward the ground. And when it dripped, it was the spark.

Timothy attacked with the Longsword of Light as fast as he could. All his years of training went into that strike.

He combined that force with his Battle Aura and sent it to his arms and then to his sword, moving flawlessly. An attack strong enough to defeat almost any opponent in that hall.

But in the next moment, colliding directly with Timothy's blade, an even faster sword appeared, breaking his posture due to the weight, speed, and absolute strength contained in that strike.

He could not resist. He could only watch as his wooden sword split in half and his strike was overcome in every possible way.

He was thrown aside as the wooden sword collided against his chest.

At that moment, that blow made him think he was facing the Sword God directly. The strike made him let out a groan:

"Graaaaah!"

"It's over!" declared the Sword God.

Everyone watching let out sighs of admiration, while Timothy weakly got up, feeling his broken ribs.

If that had been a real blade, he would have undoubtedly been split in half. It was an overwhelming force.

He was truly outmatched by a fifteen-year-old kid... who was also a mage, and was a North Emperor, Water King, and was creating his own swordsmanship style.

At that moment, in Timothy's mind, Rygar unconsciously rose to a rank a little higher than Gall Farion, his master.

A being whom he, after much consideration, decided was more appropriately called a demigod.

Rygar helped him up and healed him, saying:

"Thank you for the fight, Timothy. It was one of your best strikes."

Timothy smiled bitterly as he withdrew:

"You even waited for me to attack first..."

Rygar turned to Gall Farion, who was smiling fiercely:

"Magnificent, Rygar... I grant you the title of Sword Emperor. Hahaha! It's been a while since the Sword God's Style had so many Emperors at once, right?"

He looked at Ghislaine, Timothy, and Clint, and continued:

"Right... When you arrived at the Sword Sanctuary, you were immediately named Sword King for your strength. I used to give my students a sword from my collection when they reached that rank, but I ended up forgetting because you already had good swords and were so strong..."

He looked at Ghislaine for a moment and continued.

"Honestly, I wouldn't even have given it back then, since you were not my student. But now you are. As proof of your mastery and that you are my student, I will give you one of the swords from my collection."

Rygar said laughing, "I've been waiting for that for a long time..."

He stood up and then smiled, "Also consider the title of Emperor and the sword as birthday gifts... hehehe."

Ghislaine, Timothy, and some of the practitioners let out contained laughter upon hearing this. The Sword God said:

"Alright, dismissed!"

With that said, Rygar followed Gall Farion to enter the sanctuary while the Sword Saints exited. Only a few stayed behind.

Rygar and Gall Farion went to the Sword God's house; Rygar had been here before, but this time they went to the back of the house.

They entered a new room and at the back of the hall there was an ornate shelf.

As they approached the shelf, Rygar saw seven slots for swords, and four of these positions were occupied by blades that were visibly of great quality.

The other three spaces were empty, probably their swords were with Ghislaine, Timothy, and Clint.

The shelf itself was ornamented with golden details and ancient symbols engraved in dark wood, with evident care in its preservation, like an altar for warriors of past eras.

Gall Farion stepped forward, with his arms crossed and a look filled with pride and reverence.

"Besides my sword, the Windpipe, I found seven of these swords around the world," he said.

"All magnificent swords, forged by Yulian Jalisco."

Rygar already knew this story.

In fact, it was one of the most debated in historical records.

There were many controversies about how Kajakut had been killed — conflicting versions involving betrayals, different factions, sacred orders, mercenary groups.

But his master, Verdia, can tell you what really happened with the dragon: Kajakut was killed by North God II.

From the bones of the ancient Dragon King, 49 legendary swords were forged. Among them, 24 were considered sacred swords, while the other 24 were demonic swords.

The last one, the one that tipped the scales, was the Legendary Gravity Sword, King Dragon Sword Kajakut — considered the most powerful of all.

"Collecting seven of these blades... it's impressive," said Rygar, his eyes still fixed on the swords before him.

Gall Farion seemed to puff up with pride, proud like a father watching his child achieve a grand feat.

"You may choose one of them," he said with a calm smile.

Rygar walked slowly in front of the shelf, observing each blade.

Each one emanated a different aura, each made him feel in a different way.

But then, his gaze lingered on one of them.

It wasn't the largest, nor the most ornate — although it was beautiful.

The sword had a long, straight blade, silver like a water mirror, reflecting the surroundings with clarity. Bluish veins ran smoothly along its center.

The guard resembled stylized wings, made of dark silver, and the black hilt provided a firm grip. Near the base of the blade, a half-open eye symbol seemed to stare back at anyone who looked at it.

Its single edge shone with a subtle brightness, and the tip was thin and precise, made both for fluid cuts and swift thrusts.

It had the exact length to allow for both one-handed and two-handed grips.

When his fingers approached the blade, Rygar felt it. There was a presence there, calm and firm, as if the weapon were alive and silent, speaking directly to his soul.

Gall Farion smiled, watching the choice.

"The Silver Blade of the Water's Mirror..." he said in a reverent tone. "A sacred blade. It's an excellent choice. It has the ability to increase focus and enhance your control over touki."

Rygar wrapped his hand around the hilt, feeling the instant connection. His mind cleared, his thoughts organized effortlessly.

His perception seemed sharper. But mainly, it wasn't just an impression... he could feel that his control over his mana seemed better...

He smiled.

He began to imagine countless possibilities if his theory were truly correct.

"I'll take this one," he said.

---

Rygar and Gall Farion then returned to the Ephemeral Hall.

Now, Rygar carried his new sword at his waist... Gall, for his part, went back to his own house, leaving Rygar behind after congratulating him.

When Rygar entered the Ephemeral Hall again, it was already night.

The environment was warmed by the conversation among Ghislaine, Eris, Isolte, Nina, Aisha, Jino, and even Nigav, who surprisingly was talking with Jino.

Apparently, Aisha had invited him to join the group.

Upon seeing Rygar enter, everyone looked at him.

He approached and naturally said, "Let's go!"

As they began to follow Rygar, the others conversed among themselves.

Ghislaine walked beside Rygar. Aisha, looking more curious than ever, approached him.

"Master! Is that your new sword?" She pointed to the blade attached to Rygar's waist.

Rygar, with a smile, ruffled Aisha's hair in a casual way and replied:

"That's right Aiz. How was your training last week?"

Aiz was the nickname Rygar had started calling Aisha by lately, she seemed to like the nickname.

Aisha, proudly, answered promptly:

"I already managed to finish all the exercises the master requested!" She displayed a sparkle in her eyes, demonstrating her satisfaction with her progress.

Ghislaine, who was walking alongside Rygar, smiled with a teasing touch.

"She's had plenty of time for activities outside of training..." she said, leaving room for Rygar to interpret.

Rygar laughed, somewhat amused by the teasing.

"Okay, your expression tells me I'm making things too easy for you. Maybe I should push your training even harder?" he suggested, clearly teasing.

Aisha shivered and immediately replied, trying to hide the tension:

"N-no! It's already very effective, master! I feel great improvements, but more than that... it would overwhelm me..."

Rygar smiled at her, knowing that Aisha absorbed everything he taught quickly; he was intentionally giving her free time so that she could explore other things.

With geniuses like her, it was always good to encourage that curiosity and autonomy.

Meanwhile, Eris and Nina were intensely discussing who would reach the Sword King level first and who would handle the sword better. The two were absorbed in the conversation.

Jino, not understanding the reason for the discussion, said:

"But aren't there three swords left? There are just the three of us—Nina, Eris, and me. Aisha and Isolte are of another style, and senior Rygar and senior Ghislaine already have their swords."

The two girls, who were deeply involved in their dispute, stopped talking for a moment and shot hostile looks at Jino. Nina, with a defiant look, was the first to speak:

"It's not about having one for each!"

Eris, with a smile, added:

"Exactly, whoever gets there first will be the best swordsman!"

The discussion among the three continued, with Jino beginning to wonder why he had said anything. Rygar, observing the scene, smiled discreetly.

He liked that environment, especially enjoying seeing Eris like that... it showed that even the encounter with the Dragon God hadn't left the girl with any severely traumatic psychological scars.

The group proceeded to a location in the mountains, an isolated spot that Rygar had chosen beforehand.

There, he and Aisha began to warm up the atmosphere with magic, creating a comfortable ambiance for everyone.

Rygar had asked Skoll to hunt something for them, and as if summoned, Skoll arrived just at that moment with a fresh catch.

Isolte then pulled some alcoholic drinks from her backpack and said, with a smile:

"Grandma Reida told me to bring them. A coming-of-age party must have alcohol, she said..."

Everyone laughed, but only Rygar, Ghislaine, Nigav, Nina, Isolte, and Eris drank. Jino, when offered, refused, considering himself too young.

Aisha, on the other hand, wanted to drink, but Rygar, with a firm look, refused her request.

"I promised Lilia..." Rygar said, in a serious tone, which left Aisha in a bad mood.

She couldn't hold back and explained in various ways the logic of why she shouldn't be prevented from drinking, one of her arguments being:

"I would have better control over myself than many here!"

But after many arguments, he couldn't keep refusing.

He allowed her to take a single sip of the drink, and although she didn't insist any further, she still seemed a little upset.

The party, however, continued without problems.

The group was more united than ever, and the alcohol only helped break down the barriers and make everyone more relaxed.

Nigav Dedoldia, the Sword Saint of the Legion, proved to be quite assertive and soon became friends with Jino.

Although there was a seven-year age difference between them, Jino's quiet personality complemented Nigav's talkative nature very well.

Nigav, despite being a little older and a bit "behind" in training compared to the others, had an impressive talent for swordsmanship.

This talent was truly discovered only when Rygar implemented a systematic training system in the Great Forest, and now he was quickly catching up to the others.

Skoll, the nearly 5-meter-tall ebony wolf, was being used as a couch by Rygar and Ghislaine, with everyone seated around him, enjoying the atmosphere.

Rygar had to drink much more than usual.

His physique prevented him from getting drunk quickly, but since he didn't deliberately use detoxification spells, he felt the effects of the drink beginning to take hold.

Gradually, his attention turned to Ghislaine, and with a mischievous smile, he began to flirt with her playfully, a tease that she reciprocated with great interest.

The sense of complicity between them became more evident with each exchange of glances and words.

This did not go unnoticed by Eris, who, seeing the interaction between Rygar and Ghislaine, became clearly jealous, even though she technically had no power of speech.

She was a little drunk, so, without shame, she began asking Rygar who he thought was the most attractive among the girls there, excluding Ghislaine, which put Rygar in an awkward situation.

The party continued with laughter and food.

As he had said before, there was no need for an elaborate celebration... just gathering his wife, his friends, and disciples was enough for Rygar to enjoy his birthday in the best possible way.

Everyone ate the boar hunted by Skoll, and, with the effect of the alcohol, everyone's mood was even more relaxed.

And then, when someone mentioned it, the others remembered, those present, it was time to hand out the gifts.
