My Baby Daddy Isn't Human-Chapter 16: New Rules
Raelynn stood in her small room, the familiar scent of lavender detergent filling the air. It was a scent she had grown used to, one that had clung to her clothes and bedding for years. As she tossed her clothes into her suitcase, it hit her that she might never smell it again.
She didn't bother folding anything, simply tossing shirts, dresses, and jeans into the luggage in a chaotic pile. Her hands worked quickly, her fingers trembling slightly as she moved from her closet to the dresser, then back again.
Her vanity was next. She swept her makeup into a small pouch, not even bothering to sort through what she really needed versus what could be left behind. Lipsticks, powders, brushes—all of it went in. Shoes followed, then a handful of books, jewelry, and random trinkets that she couldn't bear to leave.
With a sharp tug, she zipped up the suitcase, then straightened up and sighed heavily. The room looked barren now, with only the furniture remaining. For a moment, she stood still, staring at the empty shelves and the unmade bed.
When she stepped out into the tiny living room, Kade stood immediately. His ever-composed expression hadn't changed since he arrived. "All done?"
Raelynn nodded, brushing a stray strand of hair out of her face. "Yeah, that's everything."
Without another word, Kade took the handle of her suitcase, lifting it with ease. Raelynn followed him to the door, her footsteps hesitant. Before stepping out, she turned back, her eyes sweeping over her apartment one last time.
It was small, cramped even, but it had been hers. The scratched coffee table, the worn couch, the creaky floorboards—it had been home. A pang of sadness hit her, and she swallowed hard, blinking away the sting in her eyes.
After a long breath, she shut the door, the lock clicking in a way that made it feel like an ending.

The ride to Elion's mansion was pretty silent, with only the car engine humming. Raelynn stared out the window, her thoughts racing. By the time they arrived, she felt a strange mix of nerves and exhaustion.
The mansion loomed ahead, its grandeur still managing to take her breath away even though she had been here before. The towering gates opened smoothly, revealing the sprawling estate surrounded by meticulously trimmed hedges and a fountain that sparkled under the sunlight.
Kade stepped out first and opened her door. "This way, please," he said, gesturing toward the entrance.
Raelynn followed him, her sneakers squeaking faintly against the polished floors of the mansion. Kade led her to the living room, a space that was both expansive and inviting. The couches were covered in luxurious fabric, and the coffee table had a nice bunch of fresh flowers. Sunlight flooded in from the big windows, filling the room with warmth.
"Please, have a seat," Kade said, gesturing to one of the couches.
Raelynn sat down, smoothing her jeans nervously as Kade took the seat opposite her. He placed a sleek black card on the coffee table, sliding it toward her.
"This," he began, his voice calm and measured, "is for you."
Raelynn's eyes widened as she stared at the card. Her lips parted slightly, but no words came out. She leaned forward, her hands trembling as she picked it up.
Her gaze flicked to Kade, then back to the card. "Is this…?"
"A black card," Kade confirmed. "Elion has given it to you. There are no limits, no exceptions. You may use it for anything you want."
Raelynn's mouth fell open in shock. She flipped the card over in her hands, as if expecting to find some catch written on the back. "This is…" She paused, trying to find the right words. "This is mine? I can really…?"
"Yes," Kade said simply.
Raelynn shook her head in disbelief, her voice rising slightly. "I've seen these before, but I've never touched one. And now it's… mine?"
"It is," Kade said, a faint smile tugging at the corners of his lips. "You can use it freely. Elion won't mind."
Her hands trembled as she placed the card back on the table, still trying to wrap her head around what had just been handed to her.
Kade continued, sounding as calm as usual. "Elion got you a private driver who's ready to go whenever you need. You may go wherever you wish, but there is one condition: you must not tell anyone about the child you are carrying."
Raelynn blinked, her eyebrows furrowing. "Well, my best friend already knows," she admitted, her voice hesitant. "I told her everything."
Kade's expression didn't change. "As long as she doesn't share that information with anyone else, it will be fine. Elion values his privacy above all else and expects the same from you."
Raelynn nodded slowly, absorbing his words.
"One more thing," Kade added. "A personal maid has been assigned to assist you during your stay here. If you need anything, she will be at your service."
Raelynn straightened her posture, her hands gripping the edge of the couch. "Okay," she said, her voice steady. "Do I… do I need to know anything else?"
Kade's gaze softened slightly. "Elion will take care of all your needs. You don't have to worry about a thing."

It all came at her at once—the card, the rules, and her life suddenly taking a different turn. She inhaled deeply, then exhaled slowly, trying to steady her racing thoughts.
"This is a lot," she admitted. "I need time to take it all in."
Kade nodded, giving her space to process.
After a moment, Raelynn lifted the black card and waved it slightly. "So… I can really use this? And you're sure Elion won't, like, ask me to pay him back later or something?"
Kade's faint smile returned. "You can use it. And no, Elion won't ask for repayment. Consider it a gesture of trust."
She raised an eyebrow, still skeptical. "And the driver? Do I really need one? I'm used to getting around on my own."
"Elion simply wants to ensure your safety," Kade explained. "The driver is there as a precaution. You and the baby are his priorities now."
Raelynn bit her lip, processing his words. "Okay," she said finally. "I think I understand."
Kade stood, adjusting his cufflinks. "Good. If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to ask. For now, I'll take my leave."
He offered a polite nod. "Good luck, Raelynn."
Raelynn watched him leave, the room suddenly feeling much larger and quieter. She glanced down at the black card in her hand, noticing how its shiny surface caught the light.
Her new life had begun, and there was no turning back now.
