My Baby Daddy Isn't Human-Chapter 34: An Unexpected Arrival
The living room felt unusually quiet as Raelynn sank into the comfy armchair by the fireplace. Raelynn had just begun to relax when the doorbell chimed. Once. Twice. Three times.
She glanced around, expecting someone—anyone—to answer it. Hera was usually quick to respond, but tonight, there was no sound of hurried footsteps. With a sigh, Raelynn stood and made her way toward the heavy oak door, her slippers brushing against the smooth floor.
When she opened it, the cool evening air rushed in, and standing on the doorstep was a woman—tall, confident, and strikingly beautiful. She had sleek black hair pulled into a tight ponytail, which framed her sharp, elegant features. The woman's eyes scanned Raelynn like she was analyzing her. She wore a tailored blazer over a silk blouse and slim trousers, screaming confidence with every detail of her appearance.
Raelynn blinked, taken aback by the woman's presence. "Uh... can I help you?" she asked, her voice hesitant yet polite.
The woman raised an eyebrow, keeping her eyes fixed on Raelynn without flinching. "I'm looking for the woman who got pregnant because of Elion," she said bluntly, her tone sharp enough to cut through the silence.
Raelynn's breath hitched, and for a moment, she was too stunned to respond. Her hand tightened on the edge of the door as she tried to process the unexpected words.
Was this woman Elion's girlfriend? Fiance? Or worse, his wife? Panic surged through her chest, but she quickly pushed it aside. There was no point in lying now.
Swallowing hard, Raelynn nodded slowly. "That… that would be me," she finally admitted in a small voice, her cheeks flushing.
The woman's lips curled into a faint smirk, though it carried no warmth. "Of course it's you," she said, before brushing past Raelynn without waiting for an invitation. Her heels clicked sharply as she walked into the living room, taking a seat on the couch like she owned the place.
Raelynn shut the door with a bit more force than necessary, her brows knitting together. She turned to face the stranger, trying to mask her growing irritation. "Excuse me, but who are you, and why are you here?" she asked more serious this time.
The woman leaned back, crossing one leg over the other as she studied Raelynn with a mixture of amusement and disdain. "I'm just saying," she started, frustration creeping into her voice, "it's pretty stupid to end up in this situation. I mean, seriously—no protection? Now you're dragged into this mess."
Okay, no sane girlfriend or wife will ever throw a comment like that.
Raelynn's jaw tightened, anger bubbling beneath the surface. "Who do you think you are to come into this house and say something like that?" she snapped, her voice rising. "What, are you another woman Elion slept with who couldn't get pregnant and decided to take it out on me?"
The woman's expression hardened, and she stood up, her tense movements emphasizing her irritation. "Oh, please," she shot back, her voice oozing sarcasm. "I've never slept with Elion. But if I had, I certainly wouldn't have made the same mistake you did."
Raelynn's hands clenched into fists at her sides, her nails digging into her palms as her frustration reached its peak. "You're unbelievable," she said, her voice trembling with barely contained fury. "This is my life you're talking about, not some joke!"
Before the argument could escalate further, the sound of footsteps approached from the open door. Both women turned their heads as Elion walked in, his dark hair slightly tousled, but he still had that calm, commanding presence. He glanced between them, his eyes catching the tension in Raelynn's body before focusing on the other woman.
"You're already here," he said, addressing the stranger with a nod.
She crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow. "Yeah, I met your bride," she replied, her tone biting.
Elion's expression hardened slightly. "She's not my bride," he corrected, his voice cool and precise.
"Why are you calling me his bride?" Raelynn snapped, her tone sharper than before. Both Elion and Raelynn had spoken at the same time, their words overlapping, and Raelynn couldn't help but glare at them both.
The woman let out a short laugh, clapping her hands once to make her point. "Wow. Match made in heaven," she said with mock enthusiasm. "You two even speak at the same time."
Raelynn's eyes narrowed, and she crossed her arms over her chest. "Who is she, Elion?" she demanded, her gaze boring into him.
Elion sighed, running a hand through his hair as though bracing himself for another argument. "Raelynn, this is Dr. Sloane Laurent," he said, gesturing toward the woman. "She's a doctor, and she'll be staying here from now on. I've hired her to monitor your condition around the clock."
Raelynn blinked, her irritation giving way to confusion. "What?" she asked, her arms falling to her sides. She shot a skeptical glance at Sloane, her eyes full of doubt. "You're saying she's a doctor?"
Sloane gave a curt nod, her earlier smugness replaced by a more professional demeanor. "Yes. And I can assure you, I'm very good at what I do."
Raelynn turned back to Elion, her voice full of disbelief. "Is this really necessary? I don't need someone hovering over me 24/7."
Elion stared at her, his gaze calm. "It is necessary. And if you have any doubts, I'd suggest rereading the rules. My decisions are absolute, Raelynn. Don't question them."
Raelynn almost said something, but thought better of it. Instead, she shot a quick glare at Sloane, who was too busy looking at her nails to care.
"Don't worry," Sloane said, her voice light but laced with sarcasm. "I'll be a much better roommate than Elion, I promise."

Raelynn's irritation flared up just beneath the surface as she stared at her. She couldn't believe it. She hadn't even fully settled in, and now there was some stranger added to the situation.
She let out a quiet sigh, wishing she could just catch a break. Gosh, what next?
