Raelynn's heart pounded like a drum, her body freezing as the man's glowing red eyes locked onto her. But she wasn't going to give up—not like this. She gritted her teeth as a fierce need to survive flared within her.

Before the man could make another move, Raelynn swung her knee upward with all the force she could muster, landing a solid hit in his most vulnerable area. His quick, pained breath and the way he winced filled her with a tiny, bitter satisfaction.

"B*tch!" he growled, stumbling back, his glowing eyes flaring with fury.

Raelynn didn't waste a second. With trembling hands, she shoved him away as hard as she could, making him stagger further back. Her legs were already moving, carrying her toward safety. She didn't know where she was going, but anywhere away from him was better than staying.

It felt like the hallway would never end as her feet hit the cold, hard ground. But before she could make it far, a searing pain shot through her scalp.

He had caught her.

"Going somewhere?" he sneered. He yanked her hair, pulling her head back until his lips were close to her ear. "You wanna play hard? Fine by me."

Raelynn's stomach twisted in fear. She opened her mouth to scream, but he silenced her with a sharp push.

Her body hit the floor hard, the impact jolting through her bones. Pain radiated through her side, and her hands instinctively flew to her stomach, cradling the small life she was desperate to protect.

The baby… I have to protect my baby.

A cough wracked her body, the sharp taste of blood lingering as she forced herself up. But before she could, the man crouched beside her, his shadow engulfing her like a predator looming over its prey.

"Look at you," he said, grabbing her chin roughly. His hand was like ice, his nails digging painfully into her arm. "I'm actually quite good at playing hard. Too good, in fact." He leaned closer, his grin widening to reveal sharp teeth that gleamed in the dim light. "You'll beg me to stop before I'm done."

She felt sick to her stomach, fear and fury battling in her head. She clawed at his hand, her nails digging into his skin, but he didn't so much as flinch.

The man stood, hauling her up as if she weighed nothing. He dragged her into the shadows, his grip like iron around her arm. The darkness closed in around them, making her fear feel ten times worse.

"No," Raelynn whimpered. She tried to dig in her feet, to stop him, but her body was weak from the earlier fall.

He pushed her against the cold wall, pressing his body against hers to keep her pinned. She tried to scream again, but his lips descended to her neck before she could.

The feel of his cold breath against her skin sent shivers down her spine. "Stop!" she screamed, her voice cracking with desperation. "No! Someone, please help me!"

No matter how loud she tried to cry, the silence seemed to smother her.

"No one's coming," the man whispered coldly near her ear. His teeth scraped her skin lightly, and she flinched, a fresh wave of terror surging through her.

Her body trembled, her energy draining fast. Pain radiated through her from the earlier fall, and her back throbbed, her mind consumed with the need to protect her child. Tears stung her eyes as she whispered a name, her voice barely audible.

"Elion…"

It was a plea, a prayer, a desperate hope.

And then, as if her whispered call had been answered, the pressure on her body vanished.

Raelynn's knees buckled beneath her, and she crumpled to the floor, her legs like jelly. Her breath came in ragged gasps as she pressed her back against the wall, her wide eyes darting to the man who had attacked her.

He was no longer on top of her. Instead, he was sprawled on the floor a few feet away, groaning in pain. Standing over him was another man, his tall figure barely visible in the low light.

Raelynn blinked, her vision blurry from tears. Recognition dawned slowly as the man turned slightly, his features catching the faint light.

It was him—the man who had greeted her earlier at the pastry table.

His eyes were hard, his movements sharp as he dragged the man to his feet. The attacker snarled, his red eyes glowing brighter, but the man holding him didn't flinch.

"You picked the wrong target," he said calmly, though the threat in his voice was clear.

Before the attacker could respond, the man slammed his fist into his stomach with enough force to make him double over. The sound of the impact echoed through the hallway, followed by the attacker's pained grunt.

He didn't stop there. The man kicked him hard, sending him crashing into the opposite wall.

Raelynn watched in stunned silence, her heart still pounding in her chest. He fought with focused precision, every blow packing an efficient, brutal punch.

After a few more kicks, the attacker slumped to the floor, groaning in pain.

Satisfied, the man turned his attention to Raelynn. His expression softened as he crouched down in front of her, his hand reaching out gently. "Are you hurt?" he asked.

Raelynn stared at him, her lips moving silently as her trembling made it impossible to speak. Her lips parted, but no words came out.

"You're hurt," he said, his brows furrowing with concern. "Did he do anything to you?"

His eyes scanned her quickly, searching for any signs of injury.

Raelynn shook her head slowly, though her body still ached from the fall. "I-I'm fine," she managed to whisper, though her voice was shaky.

The man extended a hand to her, his movements careful. "Let me help you up."

Raelynn hesitated for a moment before placing her trembling hand in his. His grip was firm but gentle as he helped her to her feet.

She leaned on his arm, her legs too weak to hold her up.

"Thank you," she said softly.

He gave her a small nod, his expression serious. "You're safe now. I won't let anyone hurt you."

Raelynn's eyes filled with tears, the adrenaline and fear finally catching up to her. She clutched his arm tightly, her heart still racing.

The man glanced back at the attacker, who was now motionless on the floor. His jaw clenched, but when he looked at her, his eyes softening.

"Let's get you somewhere safe," he said gently.

Raelynn nodded, her legs still shaky as she allowed him to guide her out of the dark hallway.
