Chapter 63 -60: Above the Star Cluster (Requesting recommendation tickets, monthly tickets)
After leaving the Dark Moon Commerce Guild, Gary Smith took little hamster straight to the largest supermarket nearby.
“Is this what a human supermarket looks like?
So beautiful.”
Little Hamster opened its eyes wide.
Its ears were erect from excitement, and its mouth was wide open.
Just like Liu the Ugly, stepping into the Grand View Garden, it curiously looked around the surroundings.
When it was hungry before, all it could do was steal snacks from a small convenience store, always scampering off with its tail between its legs, living in fear of being caught, and killed, or eaten.
It never had the chance to observe the surroundings.
This was the first time it boldly stepped into such a massive, luxurious supermarket.
An array of products were displayed on tall shelves, and for a moment, it’s eyes were wide with astonishment.
After negotiating with the cashier, Gary got a disposable QR code pass sticker and stuck it on the stunned Mousie.
He snapped his fingers on its forehead, making Mousie instinctively cover its head.
Before it could get angry, it saw Gary handing over a child’s basket with a smile, saying:
“Go ahead, pick whatever you like.
Don’t hold back on my account!”
“Really…Can I really pick anything?”
Even though they had agreed earlier, when it actually came to doing it, Mousie was somewhat in disbelief.
“Of course!”
Getting a positive answer, Mousie, feeling flattered, pulling the large-for-her basket, moved forward.
On the way, it passed by two spiritual life-detecting hounds, and instinctively its fur stood on end, its heart started to beat faster.
The two sniffing dogs lazily glanced at it, saw a pass sticker on Mousie, retracted their gaze and did not stop it.
At that moment, Mousie suddenly felt like it had become a part of human civilization; it could live in the sunlight and be respected.
However, it just took a step when a beam of red light swept toward it, stiffening its body.
Some unpleasant memories surged, and on impulse, it wanted to escape into the shadows.
But when it looked back, it saw Gary nodding at it with a smile.
“I cannot let the freak cultivator look down upon me!”
His gaze gave Mousie sudden courage.
Confidently, it stood upright.
Once the machine had scanned the pass card, the red light retreated with a ‘beep’.
“Humph, this red-eyed tin monster, is nothing but that!”
Exhaling a sigh of relief, Mousie then smoothly entered the snack area and started cheerfully wandering around, selecting the things it liked.
Gary thought it would take a lot of time, but after 5 minutes, Mousie, dragging a basket filled with ten bags of tomato-flavored chips and dozens of caramels, returned.
Gary assumed Mousie didn’t understand the prices of these things and reminded: “You can pick more.
This is only a few tens of dollars, but I have given you a budget of twenty thousand.”
“Humph, that’s what you say, but if I pick too much and can’t finish, it’ll be a waste of food!” Mousie turned its head away and said indignantly: “Besides, weird cultivator, are you looking down on me?
This time I can just exchange snacks, next time I can do better, exchange for more and more snacks!”
Even though little hamster was doing its best to hide its emotions, Gary could still see the hope and desire in its eyes, like an abandoned kitten trying to earn love from its owner by acting obediently.
Gary was silent, a picture of a small hamster alone in dangerous, demon-infested, abandoned city district suddenly appeared in his mind.
Living in constant fear, shivering in countless nights, in the midst of the Soul-Devouring Demon Cloud slicing souls, due to the fear of being discovered, even though it had to roll around in pain, gritted its teeth and bore it, never daring to make a sound.
Even if the soul can be repaired afterward, the process is painful and long.
Being wise and able to think only intensified the pain.
Having experienced the beauty of human civilization, the contrast would make it feel more lonely, it would intentionally mimic the human survival environment and steal human food…
These processes were not just to fill its belly but make it feel like it existed.
But, it never gave up, striving to find its own meaning of existence!
All its fierceness was just to cloak its own internal fragility.
And Gary,
Was the first person who told Mousie that he needed it.
It let it see the dawn of hope!
Even if it might be a trap, even if it’s just being used as a tool, after thinking it over, it bravely stepped forward.
After Gary fulfilled his promise, instead of going on a shopping spree, it chooses what it needed.
Because, it felt that’s all it’s worth!
It’s not that it’s undervaluing itself, but rather it’s joy in contentment when trust has not been betrayed.
Gary suddenly thought, his past life and even most people, aren’t they Mousie in their life?
You’ve read many books, walked many paths, learned to think.
After setbacks, you would also be confused and helpless.
You wouldn’t know what purpose your past knowledge would serve in the future, whether your future self would go unnoticed or lack a name, or even lose everything.
You could die unknown to everyone or live incomprehensibly, but all that…
None of that is important!
We are nothing more than dust in the universe, just a drop of water in the long river of time.
Dare to do what you want, understand what you want to become, the wealth process, fame, other people’s gazes are all illusory.
Life shouldn’t be a blank piece of paper, filled with wine and wealth, scribbled with fame and fortune.
If the heart is like the dawn, all you will see are morning glows.
If you miss the sunset, there will be a star-filled sky waiting for you.
