Chapter 400 - 395: Entering the Outpost

"Thank god sir, you arrived! This person suddenly came out of commander's office, after that explosion..." Even before he could complete his sentence, two earth bullets and one earth spear came crashing at his location.

'Well, it was worth a try,' Shisui thought, dodging the bullets and spear just a moment before they would have struck him.

"Who are you?" one of the Jonin asked, while another kept on weaving various hand signs. This was a particularly famous jutsu of Iwa, one which was in the memory of every ninja who had participated in any Great Ninja War—Earth Release: Stone Fortress Encampment.

A jutsu which was one of, if not the best defensive jutsu, had been turned into a death field by Iwa ninjas. If one got caught in it, they would have to face attacks from all cardinal directions at the same time, as the earth used to create the jutsu would suddenly release spikes, spears, and bullets with nothing but a flick of the user's hands.

A jutsu which should have been one of the S-rank jutsu of Iwa if not for its main weakness: the long casting time and full concentration.

But with the presence of two elite Jonin-level ninja, that problem was solved, as one could guard the other till the completion of the jutsu, or so they thought.

Before they could even see, Shisui disappeared from his position, appearing behind the ninja busy weaving his hand signs. Sadly, that ninja was completely alert—he quickly dropped his hand signs before almost completing the jutsu and dodged the kunai coming toward his neck. The attack which would have surely killed him otherwise could only leave a wound on his neck. Though Shisui was able to leave a gaping wound which would surely kill that ninja, it would take some time which they would surely use to gang up on him in the meantime.

The ninja swiftly took out a sticky bandage to apply on the wound. Though it would do little to actually stop the bleeding, it was still better than nothing.

Shisui would have surely used this moment to deal the final blow to the ninja if not for a barrage of earth bullets coming towards him.

While he dodged the bullets, the ninja was already finished with the bandage.

"I don't have much time, so sorry but we have to end this now," Shisui said. The ninja who was covering for his injured teammate was trying his best to not let Shisui slip once again like before.

Due to that, he made a very big mistake of looking directly in the eyes of the ninja he was fighting. Shisui's head, which was turned toward the injured Jonin, suddenly turned back, now with two red eyes glowing in them. The ninja was a second too late to realize what was happening.

And before he knew it, the image of Shisui and his ally swapped. Though he didn't have time to think what was happening, as the Enemy was about to attack his ally once again, without missing a beat he released a barrage of earth bullets at him.

In reality, the Jonin with already a wound on his neck was caught off guard by a sudden attack from his ally.

'Fuck, are all of them spies?' was all he could think as he dodged the barrage only to find Shisui right next to him, once again targeting his neck. He tried to dodge once again, but the kunai was way too close—even if he somehow dodged the attack, he would gain another wound on his neck. In two versus one, that would be the same as a death sentence.

With no option left, he used the best defensive jutsu he knew at the moment—Earth Release: Iron Skin Jutsu.

The ninja's skin was just going dark when the kunai pierced his neck. The fire chakra coating the kunai didn't even register the half-activated Iron Skin Jutsu at all, cleanly cutting through his neck in one fell swoop.

The second Jonin was about to take a moment to breathe when Shisui looked toward him once again, and his world turned black for a second. Since he was already in Genjutsu, the Jonin was unable to put enough resistance against the next attempt and fell for it, giving Shisui enough time to land another killing blow, piercing his heart with a kunai.

'Four down, way too many to go,' Shisui thought as he dashed toward the basement, the last floor which also happened to be the ideal place for running away. Considering the situation, it was highly unlikely that anyone would have run away till now—the first thought in everyone's mind would be to check the situation, so he still had more than enough time to go to his position.

...

Thirty ninja, all Jonin or elite Jonin from Konoha, were ready for the signal to attack. For the last two hours, they were waiting like a compressed spring ready to be released to wreak havoc in the base.

And suddenly the second in command—Renjiro Hyuga—got the signal everyone was waiting for.

As soon as he gave the signal, ninja spread like a net being thrown at the enemy, surrounding the outpost in every cardinal direction. Renjiro had already given his orders to attack specific parts of the array, and they didn't need another reminder for it. As if it was the same attack released by a person, ten fireballs destroyed various parts of the array at the same time. The array which was surrounding the outpost like a barrier flickered, growing weak from just a single barrage of attack, but not weak enough to allow a welcoming easy entry to the enemy.

Alas, they didn't have to wait for long. Another explosion happened inside the outpost—the array which was still holding itself like a well-built wall crumbled, with only a few parts still functioning, though it was nowhere near enough to hinder the entry of Konoha ninja anymore.

Leaving five ninja in the surrounding to handle anyone who tried to run away using the front exit, the rest made their way toward the base.

With the first line of defense down, the outpost now had to rely on its second line of defense—the guards at the entrance. But to the bad luck of the outpost, not a single guard moved even a muscle to stop the invaders. On the contrary, they opened the gate like they were welcoming some esteemed guests in their house.

If Onoki saw this scene with his own eyes, he would vomit blood on the spot. Konoha ninja, who were still on guard even though they knew these ninja were already under their commander's jutsu, released a sigh of relief.

All of the ninja who were under Genjutsu at the moment were marked using a small yellow mark on their shoulders, not apparent unless you knew what to look for.

After confirming that all of the guards were really those same ninja, Konoha Jonin finally entered Iwa's outpost.
