Chapter 70 - 70: Naruto Suspected to be Minato's Son? (Seeking Power stones)
[The scene continues on screen--]
[Upon hearing Minato Namikaze's name, Tsunade couldn't help but sigh. "Minato, eh? He really is similar!"]
[Jiraiya grinned, a touch of pride in his voice. "Minato was a genius rarely seen, perhaps once in a decade. It's doubtful we'll see his like again. A gentle soul, yet his will was like tempered steel. He quickly rose to become the Fourth Hokage."]
["I never had the chance to be a father, but if he were my son, he'd make me incredibly proud!"]
[Tsunade chuckled. "If you're saying that, then Naruto, that little troublemaker, is nothing like him at all!"]
[As twilight settled and the streetlights flickered on, Jiraiya picked up his scroll. Tsunade's brow furrowed instantly, her hands tightening on the fabric of her own clothes as she watched him with a worried expression.]
["I have to go."]
["Goodbye."]
[Tears streamed down Tsunade's face, unbidden, as she reluctantly watched Jiraiya's proud, yet solitary, figure.]
[Under Tsunade's tearful gaze, Jiraiya slowly vanished down the road, silhouetted against the setting sun.]
The image faded from the screen.
Countless onlookers lamented the tragic, unfulfilled love between Jiraiya and Tsunade.
Tsunade, as if reliving it all, felt the sting of her separation from Jiraiya, the pain of his death, and the unresolved nature of their bond. An overwhelming, uncontrollable longing to see him surged within her.
In the village square, before the stunned eyes of everyone, Tsunade turned and began walking with purpose.
Everyone understood. Lady Tsunade was going to find Jiraiya.
The on-screen portrayal of Tsunade and Jiraiya's relationship was both sorrowful and beautiful, yet it subtly revealed a detail easily missed by the casual observer.
In the scene, Jiraiya had mentioned that the Fourth Hokage, Minato Namikaze, would have made him incredibly proud if Minato were his son. Conversely, Tsunade had spoken of Naruto as a mischievous brat, implying he wasn't a son worthy of "his" pride.
But whose pride was she referring to—Jiraiya's, or Minato Namikaze's?
This ambiguity instantly ignited fervent discussion throughout the Shinobi World.

Konoha Village,
Astute individuals like Shikaku Nara were already beginning to piece together the puzzle of Naruto's true identity.
Recalling Naruto's blond hair and blue eyes, so strikingly similar to the Fourth Hokage's, Shikaku felt he had stumbled upon a monumental truth.
"Naruto... could he actually be the Fourth Hokage's son?"
As the thought solidified in his mind, Shikaku's hands trembled. The implication was staggering: the Fourth Hokage had not only sacrificed his life to seal the Nine-Tails, but he had sealed that terrifying tailed beast into his own son. Such a profound act of selfless righteousness made their own contributions feel insignificant by comparison.
Then, Shikaku's thoughts turned to the years of hardship Naruto had endured due to the Nine-Tails—the scorn and isolation from the villagers. He dared not dwell on it further, terrified of the potential upheaval that would engulf Konoha if Naruto's lineage were publicly revealed.
"Fortunately," Shikaku mused, "I always encouraged Shikamaru to follow his own judgment and never forbade his friendship with Naruto. It seems, unintentionally, that was a very good decision."
Elsewhere, Hiruzen Sarutobi, the Third Hokage, watched with a tense expression, fearing the imminent exposure of Naruto's parentage.
He had concealed Naruto's identity as the Fourth Hokage's son, ostensibly for the boy's safety. Yet, Naruto's status as the Nine-Tails Jinchūriki had become common knowledge, a fact that somewhat undermined his original intentions. If this truth about Naruto's father came out now, and his handling of it was questioned, he could very well face impeachment and be forced to step down.
Murmurs rippled through the crowd.
"Naruto? The Fourth Hokage's son?"
"Don't be ridiculous! How could that demon fox brat be the child of Lord Fourth? Naruto is a menace!"
"Exactly! The Fourth Hokage was a respected and great leader. Naruto is just a disgusting prankster. There's no connection!"
"Ugh, let's not even talk about Naruto. Just thinking about it is unpleasant."

Iwagakure,
Kurotsuchi turned to her grandfather. "Gramps, was Minato Namikaze truly as powerful as Master Jiraiya claimed?"
Onoki's lip twitched, a bead of sweat trickling down his forehead. He seemed reluctant to answer directly.
Kitsuchi, standing nearby, interjected, "He was, Kurotsuchi. Minato Namikaze once eliminated forty of our village's Jōnin in a single instant. Because of that, your grandfather —my father—was forced to issue a 'flee-on-sight' order regarding Konoha's Yellow Flash. Any shinobi encountering him was permitted to abandon their mission and retreat without punishment."
Kurotsuchi gasped, covering her mouth in shock. She knew her grandfather, Onoki the Tsuchikage, was an incredibly proud and powerful shinobi. For him to issue such a demeaning order spoke volumes.
Onoki snorted. "Minato was formidable, alright. If you want to know just how formidable, go ask the Fourth Raikage. He knows better than anyone!"
After this brief interlude reflecting on Jiraiya, Tsunade, and Minato, the screen in the square lit up once more.

[On screen--]
[Naruto, who had been sleeping soundly, was abruptly woken by Kakashi. Soon after, the two of them arrived at the Hokage's office.]
[Upon entering, Naruto noticed Sakura, Tsunade, and others regarding him with unusually somber expressions. "What's with those looks, everyone?"]
[Fukasaku, the elder toad sage, spoke first. "You are Jiraiya-boy's student, are you not?"]
[Naruto nodded immediately. "Yeah, I'm Pervy Sage's apprentice. What's up, Gramps Toad?"]
[Fukasaku sighed heavily. "Where to begin... Regardless, I must tell you first... Jiraiya-boy... he died investigating the leader of Akatsuki."]
[Naruto stared blankly for a moment. "Huh?" Then, a visible tremor ran through his body, his legs struggling to support him.]
[After a tense silence, Naruto's voice, low and strained, broke the quiet. "Granny Tsunade... did you... did you let him go?"]
["Yes," Tsunade replied softly.]
["Granny! You know what he's like! Why would you let him go to such a dangerous place all by himself?!" Naruto demanded, his fists clenched in anger.]
[Kakashi placed a hand on Naruto's shoulder. "Naruto, that's enough. Can't you understand how Lady Fifth must be feeling?"]
[Naruto fell silent. Then, putting on a brave face, he turned and walked out of the office.]
[Sakura called out anxiously, "Naruto, where are you going?"]
[Without turning back, Naruto replied, his voice thick with unshed tears, "If Pervy Sage had become Hokage, he would never have let Granny Tsunade go off on some reckless, dangerous mission!"]
[Out on the streets of Konoha, Naruto walked with his hands stuffed in his pockets, head bowed, like a zombie aimlessly wandering. His mind was a whirlwind of memories, every thought drifting to the past.]
[He remembered Pervy Sage teaching him the Summoning Jutsu, taking him on the journey to find Granny Tsunade, patiently guiding him through learning the Rasengan, cheering him on during his training, and buying him popsicles. That same kind person... had now left him, without so much as a goodbye.]
[Suddenly, a gust of wind swept past. Naruto looked up, and for a fleeting moment, it felt as if Jiraiya's spirit itself had brushed by, coming to see him one last time.]

PS: Every time I watch this part of the anime, I can't help but shed a few tears. Sigh. That moment when Naruto learns of Jiraiya's death... it's just so heartbreaking.
