He eyed the shimmering orange shield again, more seriously now.

"This isn't just any jutsu it's a full-on chakra barrier. This could be trouble..."

He looked at the three inside. "Wait how'd you guys get trapped in there? Try attacking from the inside. And what were you trying to tell me earlier?"

"Uh... about that," Hinata began.

Behind Asuma, Neji waved them forward casually.

Hinata and Tenten stepped out through the barrier with ease, and Neji dissipated the technique with a flick of his fingers.

Asuma froze mid-drag on his cigarette.

"This isn't the time to show off," he said, voice calm but firm. "I can feel a sinister chakra up ahead. Something's not right."

Silence fell.

They understood now. Kakashi had only assigned Neji he hadn't intended for them to be part of this fight. Ino and Choji weren't even awakened for this exact reason.

"...Understood."

"I'll keep myself safe," Tenten said, fists clenched in frustration.

Both girls had been training hard with Neji, but his growth... had left them behind.

Neji nodded to Asuma. "Please take care of them."

"You little—"

But before Asuma could finish, Neji was gone in a blur of motion.

Asuma's pupils narrowed. 'That speed... has he always been this fast?'

He didn't ask further. Shinobi rule: never question another's mission. If you did, you became the problem.

He sighed. "Alright, you're with me. We'll find a safe location or assist with civilian evacuation."

"Yes, Asuma-sensei," the girls replied in unison.

They followed him, disappearing into the village's shadows.

Neji, meanwhile, was blazing ahead at high speed.

Now that his allies were in good hands, he could finally stop holding back.

This wasn't the manga anymore. The fight ahead wasn't going to resolve itself with friendly speeches.

And he had something he needed to confirm something that could only be tested now.

Two chakra signatures appeared ahead.

Neji paused just long enough to scan the scene with his [Observation Haki].

Shino... and Kankuro? That's fine, then.

Unbeaten God of War Shino still held his undefeated streak, after all.

Neji zipped past their battlefield. Both combatants caught the flicker of movement.

"That guy again..." Kankuro growled. "Crap—if he's here, then Temari and Gaara—!"

Shino's swarm of kikaichu surged, cutting off Kankuro's escape.

"Your opponent is me."

"Tch. What a pain in the ass..."

Their Chunin Exam fight had found its rematch.

Neji didn't look back.

He could feel it now the malevolent chakra ahead was growing stronger.

He pushed faster. If it fully transforms... it'll be too late.

Then, the scene came into focus:

Sasuke lay collapsed, Curse Mark pulsing, teeth clenched in pain.

Naruto stood between him and the half-transformed Gaara.

Sakura was pinned to a tree by a monstrous claw bleeding and unconscious.

A tail swung out, smashing Naruto away like a home-run ball. He crashed beside Sasuke.

"Even the tail's out already..." a familiar voice said calmly.

Naruto blinked up and grinned.

"Neji!"

"Good. You're still conscious. Get Sakura. I'll handle this."

Sasuke opened one eye. She bit her lip, ashamed. She hadn't listened to Neji. She'd let the Curse Mark spiral out of control and now she couldn't move.

"You won't save her," Gaara snarled. "Not even you. No one will."

Half his body had already turned into Shukaku's monstrous form. His hand crushed into the bark of the tree like it was paper.

"Friends? Don't make me laugh!"

"You bastard!" Naruto shouted.

Neji's eyes scanned the scene. So Naruto already landed the emotional hit. Good.

But there was no time to wait.

"Listen, Naruto," he said quietly. "Even I might not be able to handle this alone. Think of a plan—fast."

And then—he moved.

[Chakra Beast: Roaring Tiger & Dragon]

A dual roar echoed through the woods one tiger, one dragon.

Neji's arms transformed, energy surging over them. Tiger heads formed at each fist. His legs shifted, cloaked in a clawed dragon aura.

Naruto stared, stunned.

Sasuke's pupils shrank.

He's never... used his full strength before.

[Lion's Roar]!

A blast of sonic energy exploded from Neji's mouth, battering Gaara with a wave of pure sound. The sand trembled. Gaara's head rang.

"W-What... was that?!"

Neji didn't answer.

[Flash Step]

[Lightning Stomp]!

He leaped into the air, body surrounded by crackling lightning.

His dragon-infused leg raised high aimed straight for the monstrous claw pinning Sakura.

BOOM!

A thunderous impact cracked the sky.

A flash of blue split the forest.
