Back near Naruto, the sudden surge of adrenaline caused his hand to slam against the ground.

Smoke billowed. A massive toad pipe in his mouth and blades on his back landed with a thunderous impact.

Gamabunta had arrived.

Naruto's eyes sparkled. "YES! You're finally here, Chief!"

"...Hm?"

Gamabunta ignored him at first, gaze fixed ahead. His eyes narrowed.

Neji was currently grinding Shukaku's face into the dirt with a glowing orb the size of a small boulder.

"...The hell am I looking at?"

A Konoha kid. Teenager, maybe. Pressing down a full-on Tailed Beast like he was trying to squash a bug.

Gamabunta's gaze twitched. 'Since when did Tailed Beasts get manhandled like this?'

"Chief Toad!" Naruto shouted. "Let's team up with Neji and bring that guy down!"

Neji, meanwhile, noticed the summoning with a smirk. 'Finally! The big frog shows up...'

"Take over, Naruto!" he yelled. "It's your turn!"

He released the spiral sphere and bolted the chakra nearly drained. Pressing further would be suicide.

The whole plan had never involved him fighting Shukaku this long.

This was Naruto's battle, damn it!

He leaped back using [Moon Step], rebounding through the air toward Sasuke.

Shukaku slowly rose from the crater, sand streaming off his body. His vision cleared.

Then rage set in.

"YOU! BRAT! YOU DON'T GET TO WALK AWAY!"

Fury flared in his eyes.

"This doesn't count! I WAS CAUGHT OFF GUARD!"

The humiliation of being slammed into the ground by a Genin was too much.

He turned and saw Gamabunta watching.

The beast's voice cracked.

"YOU SAW THAT, DIDN'T YOU!?"

Gamabunta: "...Huh?"

"YOU SAW IT! I KNEW YOU SAW IT!"

Shukaku erupted with energy, mortified.

"If you saw it... YOU GOTTA DIE TOO!"

The moment he realized Neji had hidden behind the toad, he just lost it. There was no reasoning. Just pure, unfiltered beastly pride and shame.

Gamabunta blinked. "I literally just got here..."

Naruto chimed in. "That's right! Let's go, Chief! Beat him up!"

Gamabunta sighed. Why do I always get dragged into these stupid kid fights...

Still, a challenge was a challenge.

"You got one chance, kid. And I'm only helping because that loudmouth over there needs to be taught some manners."

He reached behind and drew a massive short blade though short was a relative term for a toad his size.

Naruto pumped a fist. "Let's gooo! Chief Toad, you're the BEST! 1234!"

"...What?"

"It means you're awesome! Neji said so!"

"...Strange catchphrase, but I'll take it."

With a massive leap, Gamabunta dodged Shukaku's tail swipe. The shockwave alone flattened half the surrounding forest.

Neji winced. "Damn... that hit hard."

Carrying Sasuke and Sakura one over each shoulder he turned his gaze to Temari, who was still frozen near a tree.

He muttered to himself. 'Why do I keep doing this?'

Am I secretly a saint or something?

Screw it. Shikamaru owes me big for this one.

He flickered across the battlefield, grabbing Temari by the back of her collar.

"H-Hey—!"

"Save your breath," Neji snapped. "You want to help? Then yell at Gaara. Yell until he wakes up."

Temari's eyes widened as she gasped for air. "Can't you... at least... be a little gentler?!"

'I'm the Hidden Sand's sweetheart, dammit!'

Neji ignored her, carrying all three out of the danger zone with what little chakra he had left.

No [Chakra Barrier]. This time, he was running on fumes.

The second they were clear, another tail swipe blasted through the forest. Trees flew. Ground tore apart.

Temari paled.

"...I was almost in that."

Neji didn't respond. But his glare seemed to say:
