Naruto: Uchiha's Unserious Saga-Chapter 311: Kakashi’s Existential Crisis (Again)
Chapter 311 - 311: Kakashi’s Existential Crisis (Again)
"Oh!" Funan responded casually, "Hashirama? He's still fighting Madara."
"Then why aren't you helping him?" Tobirama asked urgently. "Let's go together! If we seal Madara now, we can avoid so much trouble."
Funan gave him a strange look. "Aren't you worried your brother will beat you up first?"
Tobirama fell silent.
That idiot of a big brother... yeah, he just might do it.
Sometimes, Tobirama seriously wondered if Madara was actually Hashirama's real brother.
"Forget those two!" Funan said dismissively. "Their power levels aren't that different. Even if one were way stronger, it wouldn't matter. They'd never actually hurt each other. Honestly, their fights are more like kids brawling on the playground."
Tobirama: "..."
He had no response for that.
"So what do we do now?"
"Yako!"
"Here!"
"Shrink the shinobi forces!"
"Shrink?"
"Yes," Funan said firmly. "Reduce the numbers, keep only the elite forces."
"Hokage-sama," Yako frowned. "Don't forget, a lot of the enemy got away, and we still don't know their full numbers."
Thinking about the White Zetsu, she hesitated before calling them 'troops'.
"I know." Funan replied decisively, "The White Zetsu army... they shouldn't have more than fifty thousand left. We'll keep twenty thousand of our best shinobi. That's enough."
"Twenty thousand?"
"Yes."
"...Understood." Yako sighed. If the Hokage gave such a firm command, what else could she say?
"Everyone, go back and prepare. Get yourselves into peak condition. The final battle is coming soon."
"Yes, sir!"
The crowd dispersed.
Most went to rest and recover, but for Yako and the logistics teams, their workload had just increased—cutting troop numbers, gathering supplies, and allocating top fighters.
Medical-nin would be sticking to them like glue again.
The only real question was—when would Obito attack?
Funan turned to Kakashi. "Why are you still here? Do you even realize how weak you've become? You couldn't even take down Obito, that dead-last dropout! Pathetic."
"I really am pathetic..." Kakashi forced a bitter smile. Then, as if talking to himself, he murmured, "Hokage-sama... why did it have to be Obito?"
Funan looked at him and sighed. "It must be because of Madara."
"Uchiha Madara?"
"Yes," Funan nodded. "Obito is imitating Madara's habits—deliberately. When he first appeared, he even called himself Madara. Plus, he knows things only Madara could have known."
"I believe that back then, Madara must have saved Obito."
"After that, he convinced Obito to join his plan."
Kakashi's voice turned urgent. "But why would Obito cooperate with him? Doesn't he know what Madara is planning?"
Funan cut him off. "He knows. And? When someone is truly desperate, even if they know something is wrong, they'll still go through with it."
"Just like you, Kakashi."
"When Rin made her choice, you knew it was the right one. But if she hadn't run into your Chidori herself, would you have been able to kill her?"
Kakashi fell silent.
Funan continued, "The enemy's plan was for Rin to carry the Three-Tails into Konoha... and then detonate."
"If Rin hadn't made the right choice, do you know what would have happened?"
Kakashi's face went pale. He said nothing.
"And there's something else you probably don't know." Funan's voice turned cold. "Do you know why Minato didn't arrive in time? I don't. But I do know that I could have gone to save you—if Konoha's higher-ups hadn't stopped me."
"What?" Kakashi's breath caught. His mind went blank.
"They stopped you? Why?"
"Because I'm an Uchiha." Funan's voice was ice-cold, laced with scorn. "They didn't want an Uchiha gaining too much merit. So they restricted me."
"They knew the consequences—and they still did it."
At that moment, only Funan, Kakashi, and Tobirama remained.
Guy had been pulled away by others.
After hearing this, the expressions on both of their faces changed.
Kakashi was in a daze.
Funan was cold and mocking.
Tobirama... was just speechless.
Monkey, even in the middle of a war, you guys managed to mess things up this badly. Amazing.
Tobirama had feared the Uchiha and had suppressed them, but using such a crude method? What a disgrace.
Funan's voice cut through the air again. "Now, tell me—if Obito finds out about this, what do you think he'll do?"
Both Kakashi and Tobirama shuddered.
"Rin's death already pushed him into darkness. But if he learns there were people pulling the strings behind the scenes..." Funan smirked. "Do you think he'll fall even deeper?"
"Pull yourself together, Kakashi. Right now, Obito only has two choices left."
"Two choices?" Kakashi asked blankly.
"Yes."
Funan raised one finger. "Someone drags him out of the darkness."
He raised a second. "Or he keeps falling and takes the whole world down with him."
"Kakashi, your mission is very difficult!"
Funan looked at Kakashi with admiration.
Kakashi's expression changed.
"Hokage-sama, can you stop looking at me like that? It creeps me out when you do!"
Funan: "... Don't you want to save Obito?"
"Yes!" Kakashi said seriously. "I will definitely pull Obito out of the darkness. Don't worry!"
"Yeah!" Funan nodded with satisfaction, but in his heart, he was cursing!
In fact, Funan sympathized with Obito and even agreed with some of his actions.
For example, if the person I love died, I would drag the whole world down with me.
In Funan's opinion, that wasn't a big deal.
If it were Funan, he might do something even more extreme than him.
My world has collapsed, and so should everyone else's!
However, Funan couldn't support some of Obito's actions.
For example, Minato and his wife! Admittedly, Konoha owed Obito a lot, and he had been suffering from Uchiha Madara's schemes.
But!
Did Minato and his wife ever offend you!?
They were really good to you.
When everyone looked down on you, Obito, it was Minato, the 'Little Sun', who kept comforting you.
And yet, you killed his entire family! What were you thinking?
If there was anyone who should have a grudge against Minato, it should be Uchiha Funan, not you, Uchiha Obito.
Uchiha Funan once fought side by side with Minato, and the two could be considered comrades who had faced life and death together.
However, when Uchiha Funan was set up by Danzo and Hiruzen, Minato didn't speak a single word in his defense—he simply chose to ignore it.
Funan was furious about this.
Fine, if you don't care about me, then I won't care about you either.
That's why Uchiha Funan didn't show up during the Night of the Nine-Tails.
If we were going to be strangers, so be it.
You chose Hokage and the system, so I had to choose my family.
Funan understood Minato's reasoning.
At that time, he had just been confirmed as Hokage, then ascended to become the Fourth Hokage.
His position was unstable, and he didn't dare to openly confront Hiruzen and the others over Uchiha, a clan seen as a sensitive subject. But he was an idealist who wanted to change the entire shinobi world, and for that, he had to make some sacrifices.
To hell with that.
Why should I, Uchiha Funan, be the one to sacrifice!?
Funan sneered.
At first, he went to find Minato, but the latter avoided the issue entirely.
Funan turned and left.
From that day on, he and Minato never spoke again.
Until the Night of the Nine-Tails!
"Kakashi, Obito is in your hands now!" Funan looked at Kakashi with a smile and said, "If you're unsure of what to do, you can go see Naruto, that enthusiastic young man. Maybe he can tell you the answer. Of course..."
Funan's voice turned cold. "If you can't do it, then I'll have to handle Obito myself. You know, I'm the Hokage now!"
"I won't sacrifice others for Obito!"
...
Kakashi left.
He needed to make his final preparations.
For Obito!
Funan returned to his office, sat down quietly, and closed his eyes slightly.
He was organizing his trump cards!
After such long preparation, he had a few cards left to play.
Whether against Uchiha Madara or Kaguya, they could prove useful.
But, the Sage of the Six Paths...
"Wait, not just Otsutsuki Hagoromo, but also Otsutsuki Hamura!"
The ancestor of the Byakugan shouldn't be dead.
Could Kaguya truly have died so easily?
Funan looked up at the moon.
A whole group of Byakugan users was there.
However, at his level, aside from the Byakugan ancestor, there wasn't anyone else he needed to concern himself with.
Even if the Byakugan ancestor was weaker than the Sage of the Six Paths, he shouldn't be too far behind.
After all, the two Otsutsuki brothers had joined forces to seal away their own mother.
If he had been weak, he wouldn't have been part of that battle.
After contemplating, Funan touched his chin and murmured, "There's something I've always been curious about... how did the Byakugan lineage continue?"
"Damn, Otsutsuki Hamura went to the moon alone. How did he reproduce the Byakugan? Was it asexual reproduction?"
"Could he have fathered children all by himself?"
Funan was in awe!
From that perspective, Hamura might be even more powerful than the Sage of the Six Paths!
