Chapter 145: Learning new things [3]

"Since he doesn’t seem like he will be back soon, how about I try to answer your questions?" Kairo suggested as he took a seat on Renaldo’s previous spot and placed his hands on his lap.

"If you have questions about the main city, I will be able to answer it, but if it’s about this village, then I suggest asking the other mediator about it." He informed her, his voice void of emotion, but sounds respectful and sincere.

Coco felt hesitant to ask questions because of what Lala feels about him.

She just can’t start a conversation with the man that made the garden fairy uncomfortable and cry, right? It only would make Lala feel even more upset, wouldn’t it?

"Ask him if there’s a way you can divorce your husbands." Lala spoke up all of a sudden, making Coco grow stiff.

Coco did not expect for Lala to have her initiate an informative conversation with the person who made her cry, but who is she to refuse?

"Well.. I do have one question." Coco said, pushing herself further into the couch and leaned back.

"Ask away." Kairo urged her with a single nod.

Coco cleared her throat and asked, "Don’t take this the wrong way, but is there any way for me to divorce one of my husbands?"

The mediator’s purple eyes stared at the woman in front of him, his mouth agape in shock.

His eyes widened, his jaw slackening as he struggled to process what he had just heard, her question had thrown him completely off balance, her bluntness and directness taking him by surprise.

Did she seriously ask that? He felt his heart racing, his mind racing to catch up with the shock of the situation.

Coco sat across him, her expression calm and matter-of-fact, seemingly unconcerned with the impact her words had on him.

Well, he did insist that he will answer my questions, right? So, he will answer them. Coco thought, musing the words in her mind and watched his face contort to several expressions in under just a minute.

It took him another minute before he recovered from the shock, he closed his mouth and forced out a cough to cover his reaction.

Though, it was too late.

Coco already saw how shook he was at her question and even saw the glint of happiness in his gaze that appeared for a moment.

"Yes, you can divorce your husbands." Kairo answered her question, his face flushing with color at the intensity of Coco’s stare, "If you got married with them in front of the altar, then it would cost you a lot to break off the sacred bond between you and them."

Coco brightened up significantly at the words she heard and Kairo felt like he was being blessed by the sight of the excitement he saw in her eyes.

"However, if it was only through paper, the price won’t be as much as the one in the altar." Kairo said, clearing his throat once more to make sure his voice won’t fail him and embarrass himself in front of Coco.

"The price of the divorce depends on the person that blessed your marriage." Kairo started as he lowered his gaze down to the floor, "The pope, the archbishop, and the bishop would ask for a lot because the marriage was blessed by the one above, but if it’s just the priest, then you don’t have to worry."

Coco blinked owlishly and kept staring at him, her mind processing all the information she was given and trying her best to understand every bit.

"Go on." Coco urged him with an approving nod, "What about the other one?"

"Through the paper— it’s usually done by commoners who were arranged to marry someone of their status." Kairo mumbled and looked at her, "I’m sure that you won’t be able to divorce your husbands through the paper because if I remembered correctly.."

"I married them in front of the altar." Coco finished his sentence with a grimace, "Don’t worry, I remember that much."

"Seems like it." Kairo stated and turned away, "You looked like you were displeased at the fact that you married them in front of the altar and have your marriage blessed by the almighty one."

"That’s none of your business." Coco said, the corner of her lips curling down which made her displeasure obvious.

Kairo was correct.

She was upset at the fact that Coco Hughes married the four mediators in front of the altar and still abused them despite being blessed by the important people of the church.

The memory was vague, but she remembered that she kissed every single one of the husbands and promised that she would take care of them— providing for them and taking care of them, through sickness and health, for better or worse.

However, Coco Hughes did the opposite.

Coco let out a groan as she buried her face in her palm, feeling frustrated at herself more than anything.

She has been living in the new world for a couple of weeks, but she feels like she has not done anything and moved on— is she slacking? Should she go to the teleportation thing and get herself to the main city?

She’s paying her debt slowly because she still has to give money to the mediators while doing quests here and there, but thinking about it.

Should she pay off the debt for once and for all?

I probably should, huh? Coco answered her own question and grumbled under her breath.

Sighing weakly and shaking her head to shake off the unwanted thoughts, she glanced at Kairo and found him staring.

"I have one more question." Coco asked, her voice snapping Kairo out of his daze.

"Wha.. What is it?" He cleared his throat and straightened his posture, his cheeks felt warmer after getting caught staring at Coco.

"Is there any way for me to change my name?"

Once again, the mediator’s jaw slacked and his lips parted out of shock.
