Nightmare Assault-Chapter 375: Missing
Chapter 375: Missing
“Supernatural exploration team…”
“That’s right.” Liu Guo didn’t think they’d encounter a clue like that. He looked at Jiang Cheng. “Lee Maoshen, Yu Youwei, Song Jianyou, Qiao Yu and Zhao Jiajia are members of this group. I believe the reason behind their deaths is one of their recordings.”
“And this ring.” Hua Luo suddenly uttered. Everyone saw him take out the ring from his pocket. Clearly, Lee Maoshen and Yu Youwei were a couple. Lee Maoshen was the founder of this supernatural exploration team.
“However, since the recording angered the ghost, why did the ghost leave the ring in Yu Lan’s mouth after they killed her?” Wan Xiaoning looked at the ring and posed a valid question. This ring influenced their investigation direction. They thought this murder was related to love at first.
“I don’t know.” Wei Jingting shrugged. He carried a backpack that was larger than Banana Wolf’s. He didn’t have this bag before. When he noticed someone staring at his bag, Wei Jingting removed the bag and took out a laptop. The laptop was black and red. It was an old model.
“It was Qiao Yu’s.” He said, “We got him from his brother. However, the drive has been deleted. His brother didn’t do it. It was like this when the police gave it back.” He shrugged.
It was clear that Banana Wolf and the rest still wanted to see what was in the laptop but the time was too late. After they exchanged information about what happened to Lu Huaxu and Chen Yi, they returned to their rooms.
Along the way, Fatty offered some advice to Chu Jiu. Jiang Cheng listened and frowned. They escorted Chu Jiu back to her room. Standing before Chu Jiu’s room, Jiang Cheng glanced at Room 710. The door was closed and would never open again. Things were not looking good for Chu Jiu. Chen Yi was dead, and there was a ghost living in Room 717, which was on her floor.
Chu Jiu lowered her head, afraid to glance at Chen Yi’s room. Jiang Cheng reached out to smooth down Chu Jiu’s hair. Then, he leaned in to whisper in her ear. He was so soft that even Fatty couldn’t hear him. However, after hearing him, Chu Jiu lifted her head and looked at him strangely as if trying to see if he was lying or not.
Jiang Cheng nodded. He raised three fingers and said, “If I lie to you, Wang Fugui will be struck by lightning.”
Fatty, “???”
To Fatty’s consolation, after Chu Jiu heard him, she looked better. This was the first time there had been light in her eyes since Chen Yi disappeared.
On the way back, Fatty complained about Jiang Cheng using his name to swear again. “Doctor,” He jogged and asked, “What did you tell that kid?” Chu Jiu was a university student but she looked like she was just in high school. Fatty referred to her as a kid.
“I told her this mission was special. Chen Yi was not dead. She was mostly captured by the ghost.” Jiang Cheng said, “If we finish the mission quickly, we can still save her.”
Fatty gasped in joy. “Really?”
Jiang Cheng paused. Then, he admitted, “It’s fake.”
After a while, Fatty didn’t react as Jiang Cheng had expected. He placed one hand on his shoulder and tapped him kindly. “Doctor,” Fatty encouraged, “Don’t blame yourself. You’ve tried your best.”
Jiang Cheng’s eyes shook. Then, as he adjusted his clothes, he shook Fatty off. “Chen Yi was targeted by the ghost. She died because she was dumb.” Jiang Cheng said coldly, “Why would I feel responsible? I took the same taxi as Chen Yi because I wanted to observe the ghost kill in person. I took Chu Jiu as an insurance.” He glanced at Fatty and shrugged. “I could push her out to die on my behalf.”
Fatty blinked. Then, he whispered under his breath, “Doctor… were you trying to justify it to yourself?”
…
A man sat on the bed. The smell of smoke spread in the bedroom. Liu Guo stared at the clock on the wall. When it was 15 minutes past seven, he snuffed out the smoke. A few seconds later, the phone rang. After he counted to four inside his heart, he answered the call.
“Sister Xu is dead…” It was a youngster who said. The voice was lowered as if suppressing their emotions.
Liu Guo pressed his lips. “I know.”
He felt as bad as the youngster, but it was not the time to be sad. This was a war that they’d die in if they lost. Of course, those who fell into those people’s hands would have a fate worse than death. ŕäN𝖔ΒƐṦ
“Could it be them?” The youngster forced the words out of their teeth.
Liu Guo thought about it and sighed. “I don’t know. I’ve been keeping a close watch on everyone. Plus… Lu Huaxu is really dead.” He saw the man’s corpse. There were patches of burn marks on his body. Parts of his limbs were carbonised. The strange thing was that they found his body in the bathroom, and next to him were three red pails filled with water. Other than the burn marks on the body, the bathroom was very clean. There were wooden mops and toilet paper that could easily burn, but they were unscathed. It felt like the fire was contained to the man.
“I know what you wanted to ask. You think he died too easily, right?” Liu Guo continued, “I think so too.”
Then, the other person added, “This Lu Huaxu was a fake.”
“I agree with you.” Liu Guo conceded. “The dead Lu Xuhua was a smokescreen to confuse us. The real Deep Red is someone else.”
“How about… Wu?” The youngster hesitated and explained, “Even though I think he’s suspicious, his name and actions don’t show that he wishes to hide himself. He takes things too flippantly. Plus, he never participates in our mission. It is like the success of the mission has nothing to do with him.”
“When we were near the cafe in the afternoon, the fire alarm was triggered. We were swept away by the crowd.” Liu Guo grabbed the phone and leaned forward. “Wu was gone for about twenty minutes.”
