Chapter 18 -18: Psychiatrist
Seeing her accept it, Qin Jingchen’s lips curved upward slightly, and his usually calm eyes sparkled with fragmented light.
Jiang Zhe casually glanced at the time on her phone.
Qin Jingchen smiled lightly, his voice as tranquil as water, “You have evening self-study, so we can eat quickly, and I’ll take you back early.”
“Okay.”
During the meal, Jiang Zhe’s phone kept receiving messages, and from time to time she would stop to reply.
“Something urgent?” Qin Jingchen asked.
“Contacting a psychologist,” Jiang Zhe replied offhandedly.
This answer added a touch of softness to Qin Jingchen’s expression.
It was the first time she was willing to share something personal, as far as he could remember.
“For a friend or for yourself?”
“A friend.”
“Have you found a suitable one? I know some psychologists I can recommend to you.”
“Still looking.”
Hearing what Qin Jingchen said, Fen Ye immediately caught on, eagerly taking out his phone: “I’ll contact Dr. La right away! Dr. La Xiu, the leading figure in the field of psychological intervention and therapy in Dragon Emperor Country. If you go through the normal procedures to schedule an appointment with him, you might have to wait for two years. How about I ask Dr. La to join us for dinner?”
Qin Jingchen did not object, and Fen Ye quickly made the contact.
Jiang Zhe: “…”
She took a sip of water and replied to La Xiu on her phone: “Never mind, you go ahead with your work. Tonight’s matter isn’t urgent; I’ll talk to you about it later.”
Just as she finished her reply, Fen Ye confirmed the arrangements: “Dr. La said he will be right over. He mentioned he had an appointment tonight and wasn’t sure if he could make it. We’re in luck.”
A moment later, someone knocked on the private room’s door.
Fen Ye ran to open it, and a young man dressed in a tastefully conservative manner stood at the door.
“Dr. La, please come in!” Fen Ye gestured for him to enter.

La Xiu walked in, his actions and demeanor maintaining the strictness expected of a psychologist, yet he seemed approachable.
“Mr. Qin,” he spoke with a careful and relaxed tone.
“Have a seat,” Qin Jingchen nodded, “Got a friend who could use your help.”
La Xiu looked past Qin Jingchen to see who was behind him, and upon sighting Jiang Zhe, his face cracked for a moment. When had Jiang Zhe gotten to know Qin Jingchen?
Jiang Zhe casually lifted her eyes to glance at La Xiu.
La Xiu tacitly pretended not to know her and pulled out a chair to sit down.
“Since Mr. Qin has requested, I cannot refuse.”
Qin Jingchen introduced them straightforwardly, “Jiang Zhe, my fiancée. La Xiu, Dr. La.”
When La Xiu heard the word “fiancée,” his expression fractured again. Fiancée, what was this situation?
La Xiu quickly composed himself, stood up, and politely shook hands with Jiang Zhe, “Miss Jiang, nice to meet you.”
“Nice to meet you, Dr. La.”
Fen Ye poured tea for La Xiu, “Dr. La, the matter with our sister-in-law’s friend, we’ll leave it in your capable hands.”
“Of course, Mr. Qin’s friend is also my friend,” said La Xiu as he took out his phone. “Then, Miss Jiang, shall we add each other on WeChat?”
Jiang Zhe scanned the QR code he presented without changing her expression.
When the meal was over, Qin Jingchen prepared to escort Jiang Zhe.
Jiang Zhe, holding her backpack, said, “I’d like to have a private chat with Dr. La.”
“Sure. I’ll wait for you.”
La Xiu’s psychological consultancy was nearby, and Jiang Zhe quickly followed him upstairs.
After they left Qin Jingchen’s sight, La Xiu’s usually stable emotions gave way and his face turned grave, “Since when did you become Qin Jingchen’s fiancée?”
“It’s a long story.” Jiang Zhe never saw it coming either.
“This man is not so easy to provoke. Despite his Buddhist aura, who knows what he’s hiding underneath?”
Jiang Zhe, chewing on gum, said indifferently, “Am I supposed to be afraid of him?”
La Xiu smiled, “That’s right. Our Xiaozhe is a rose with thorns, a clever little fox.”
After finishing, he asked earnestly, “A close friend needs psychological counseling?”
“Right,” Jiang Zhe nodded.
“No wonder you’re not doing it yourself. Technically, your abilities far exceed mine; the results would be much better if you were to do it.”
“Too close, it’s not good.”
“Then I’ll take over. Whenever your friend wants to come for psychological counseling, just come with her and let me know in advance.”
“Okay.”
“What did you want to talk to me alone about?” La Xiu asked.
“Help me find a quiet place close to the First Middle School, for my friend to stay.”
“A friend from the orphanage?” La Xiu guessed immediately.
Jiang Zhe himself had stayed in an orphanage and often helped those kids after they left.
He pulled out a set of keys, “Take this one; the property information is clean, not related to you or me. I’ll get a cleaning service to tidy it up.”
“Thanks,” Jiang Zhe took the keys, “Then I’ll bring my friend over tomorrow night.”
“No problem.”
When Jiang Zhe left La Xiu’s psychological counseling office, Qin Jingchen’s car was still there; Jiang Zhe leisurely walked to his car, opened the door, and got in.
The sound of Qin Jingchen’s Buddha Beads did not stop, his voice flowed like water, “Everything settled?”
“Yeah, coming over tomorrow.”
“Good.”
The temperature was a bit cool, and the air conditioning was still on in the car.
Jiang Zhe, in her school uniform, had an especially short skirt, her slim and pale legs exposed to the cold air.
It felt a bit chilly, she thought nonchalantly, then quickly cast the thought aside.
Jiang Zhe sat down and was just opening her phone.
A blanket was offered in front of her, she looked up to meet Qin Jingchen’s gaze.
He was holding the blanket, extending it further towards her.
“Thanks,” Jiang Zhe took it and covered her legs.
When it was time to get out of the car, Qin Jingchen spoke before she did, “Just leave the blanket with me.”
After Jiang Zhe left, Fen Ye opened his phone and said, “Jingchen, I had someone record the piano sounds of all the students in Jincheng who can play the piano, they’re all here. The recordings of pianists from the general public are also underway, and should be finished in a few days. So, how do I filter through these?”
The piano sounds were to be selected for the elderly Mrs. Qin’s insomnia aid. To others, while these piano sounds varied in skill, in terms of aiding sleep, they were indistinguishable and essentially the same.
“Send them to me.”
“Alrighty. With so many piano sounds, I have no idea how long Mrs. Qin will take to listen to them.”
Qin Jingchen gently pinched the bridge of his nose, realizing that he needed to make the most of his time in the coming days to finish listening to these recordings.
After getting out of the car, Jiang Zhe walked into the school entrance where Xia Enci and Xiao Meng were waiting for her.
“You’ve finally come back. Xiao Meng ran here right after study hall, worried that it wouldn’t be safe for you to be out so late,” Xia Enci said as she hooked her arm through Jiang Zhe’s.
Xiao Meng actually knew that Jiang Zhe used to often go out late at night and wander unpredictably, but this time she was going to help herself find a psychologist, naturally worried that it might cause problems for Jiang Zhe because of her.
“No need to wait next time.”
“It’s just a few steps away anyway,” Xia Enci said nonchalantly, “Have you had dinner yet?”
“I have.”
“Alright, then let’s go back and have my mom’s homemade preserves for a midnight snack.”
As Xiao Meng walked with them, she felt her mood had not been this relaxed in a long time.
