Chapter 179 - 179: The Devil’s Bargain
Hearing this, Katakuri was silent for a moment, then took out a Den Den Mushi and handed it directly to Mio. He was a smart man and could see the situation clearly, so he didn't hesitate too much.
Taking the Den Den Mushi, Mio raised the corners of his mouth and smiled, then dialed the number.
Bulu Bulu.
Bulu Bulu.
The Den Den Mushi's voice echoed. Soon, the call connected.
"Katakuri, my dear son, is there something you need?" A slightly crazed voice came from the other end, accompanied by the constant sound of chewing.
"BIG MOM, I'm not your son," Mio said calmly.
Hearing Mio's voice, the Den Den Mushi was silent for a moment before responding.
"Who are you?"
"Kurokawa Mio," Mio said with a grin, a smile spreading across his face.
"It's you, the newcomer who just entered the New World. I remember Katakuri and the others were supposed to deliver an invitation to my tea party. So why do you have a Den Den Mushi that connects to me?" Big Mom's voice was full of confusion. She had been keeping an eye on the Black Crow Pirates, and this time had specifically instructed her two sons to deliver the tea party invitations. It was both to extend a gesture and to show the overwhelming strength of the Big Mom Pirates — a warning that the waters of the New World ran deep.
After all, in her eyes, her two sons — especially Katakuri — had incredible potential. Maybe not on the level of an Admiral, but at least the level of a Vice Admiral.
Yet now Mio was the one calling her, using her private Den Den Mushi, which surprised her.
"Oh, that's right," Mio said, chuckling. "As for why I have a Den Den Mushi that connects to you? Well, obviously, I got it from your son."
Big Mom fell silent again.
As if realizing what had happened, her voice turned ferocious. "You're looking for death!"
"Don't be so angry, Big Mom," Mio replied lightly, still smiling. "How about we make a deal?"
"Hm? A deal?" Big Mom's voice calmed a little, though it was still tense. "What kind of deal?"
Mio glanced at Katakuri before speaking. "Three Devil Fruits in exchange for your son's life. How about it?"
"Oh, right," Mio added as if remembering something. "The three Devil Fruits are for Katakuri's life. As for Perospero, he's already dead."
Bang!
A crashing noise echoed from the other end, followed by faint screams and begging for mercy. Something had been destroyed in Big Mom's rage.
"Damn it! Damn it!" Big Mom screamed. "How dare you kill my son?! I'll make you pay! I'll kill you!!"
Mio remained composed. "Big Mom, you only need to answer one thing. Will you accept the deal or not?"
Silence followed. Then, Big Mom suddenly burst into mad laughter. "Hahahaha! Black Crow, I remember you now! Fine, I'll make this deal. Three Devil Fruits, right?"
"Of course," Mio replied with a nod.
"Very well, I'll prepare them. But I hope you survive long enough to see them. I'm afraid you might die before you even touch them," Big Mom threatened.
Mio's eyes flickered, but he only smirked. "There's no need for threats, Charlotte. If I were afraid of things like that, the Black Crow Pirates wouldn't have entered the New World."
"Prepare the fruits. I'll be waiting at the Caesar Islands."
With that, Mio hung up the Den Den Mushi.
Robin walked over, looking surprised. "Captain, won't this completely enrage the Big Mom Pirates?"
"Well, even if it does, there's nothing we can do," Mio shrugged. "I don't like trouble, but if trouble comes to my door, I'll deal with it. Besides, as for the Big Mom Pirates..."
Mio sneered. "Charlotte may be a madwoman, but she's not stupid. She has generals around her who know how to weigh gains and losses. Right now, her enemies aren't limited to me — there are many other big pirate crews. If she really dares to come after me herself, I'll be more than happy."
"Do you think she'll really send the Devil Fruits?" Robin asked, curiosity in her voice.
"She will," Mio said confidently. "Katakuri still holds weight in her eyes."
While three Devil Fruits were no small matter, to Charlotte Linlin, it was something she could easily provide.
As Mio stared at Katakuri, the man's entire body tensed up.
Noticing this, Mio warned directly, "To avoid any accidents, you'd better behave yourself."
Originally, they had planned to leave the Caesar Islands for their next destination. But with this sudden twist, they had no choice but to stay put for a few more days. Fortunately, this delay would bring a great harvest. Even if it meant fully breaking ties with the Big Mom Pirates, they weren't too worried about immediate retaliation. The real threat would come later when the Big Mom Pirates had time to mobilize.
Therefore, Mio began to consider ways to further strengthen himself during this period.
Although he couldn't defeat Big Mom just yet, he aimed to become fearless in the face of her power.

Mio pointed to a spot nearby. Katakuri immediately walked over and sat down without a word.
Since there were no seastone handcuffs aboard the ship, Mio could only assign someone to watch him closely. Thankfully, Katakuri wasn't yet at his peak, and many members of the Black Crow Pirates were currently stronger than him.
There was no need to worry about him escaping.
Mio turned to Hei Yan, who was eyeing Katakuri. He grinned. "If he tries to escape, break his hands and feet."
"Yes, sir," Hei Yan nodded calmly. His gaze on Katakuri carried a chilling weight that made Katakuri tense even further and instinctively brace himself.
A few moments later, Hei Yan lowered his head and resumed reading the book in his hand.
Still, he occasionally looked up at Katakuri.
During these moments, Katakuri took the chance to observe the people aboard the Black Glory.
And what he saw shocked him.
Except for the "demon child" from Ohara, there didn't seem to be a single weakling on this ship. It didn't look like a rookie pirate crew at all. In fact, it was hard to believe that he had been defeated by what was considered a rookie crew — one that was terrifyingly strong.
Among all the rising pirate crews Katakuri had encountered, none had been this powerful in their early stages. None could compare to the Black Crow Pirates.
