Online Game: I Started with Max Charisma and Caught the Goddess's Eye-Chapter 381: Adventure Success, Seeking a Way Out
In the interrogation room, Liam silently observed the parameters on the dream invasion device. He could easily see that the parameters were fluctuating continuously, and he knew these fluctuations meant that Dr. Smith was encountering trouble within the dream.
However, he had no intention of offering any help.
"I've done everything I can. If he still can't find the answers to the questions he cares about in the dream, then there's nothing more I can do," Liam muttered to himself.
Just then, the dream invasion device suddenly emitted a notification indicating a disconnection in the consciousness link. Instinctively, he walked over to Dr. Smith's side.
"Doctor, can you hear my voice?"
Dr. Smith slowly opened his eyes, slightly confused. He tried to move his body but was unsuccessful.
"After a consciousness disconnection, your body will experience some issues. This is very common. You just need to move a bit, and you'll regain control over your body," Liam explained, drawing from his previous experience, assuming it was merely a typical side effect of the consciousness link.
Dr. Smith looked around at his surroundings, still somewhat dazed, before reaching out his hand. With help, he managed to stand up.
"Let them all come in. I have something very important to say." Dr. Smith managed to rise to his feet and, after fully regaining control of his body, he spoke in a low voice.
Liam nodded and walked toward the door of the interrogation room.
At that moment, it was Luca who controlled Dr. Smith's body. After taking control of Dr. Smith's consciousness, Luca successfully accessed his short-term memories. This meant Luca now knew that many people were waiting outside the interrogation room, and he also had a general understanding of the objectives of Dr. Smith and the others.
Had Dr. Smith not been so physically fragile, Luca would not have needed this much time to fully dominate his body.
The door to the interrogation room opened, and the group entered.
"Everyone, I've obtained some very important information in the dream. Northern Territory's Morning Star holds a wealth of intelligence on artificial monster technology. Therefore, our focus in the upcoming interrogation should shift to Quagmire," Luca slowly articulated the carefully prepared statement.
He needed to first divert the attention of this group of people away from himself.
If they continued to focus all their attention on him, the fact that he was controlling Dr. Smith's consciousness would soon be exposed. Additionally, his explanation wouldn't raise any suspicions from the others.
Although Luca was quite powerful, he was not a member of the official organization. This meant that, in the eyes of Zenith Technology Company, the intelligence Luca could control was not particularly critical.
Quagmire, on the other hand, was a very different case. As an important member of Northern Territory's Morning Star, he had access to a great deal of official intelligence.
Everyone in the interrogation room began recording Luca's statement. Liam, however, appeared slightly confused and leaned in closer.
"Doctor, didn't you tell us earlier that Luca was the most important one? Why are we now shifting the focus of the interrogation to Quagmire? From what we know, Quagmire seems to be just a thug."
Upon hearing this, Luca's face revealed a slight expression of displeasure.
"Are you questioning my decision?"
As soon as he spoke, the atmosphere in the interrogation room became tense.
Luca had assessed Dr. Smith's personality through his short-term memories. On the surface, Dr. Smith seemed like an easygoing scholar. But in reality, his temper was volatile. He would not allow anyone to publicly question him.
When Liam heard these words, a look of clear fear appeared on his face.
"How could I question your decision? I was just trying to remind you," he stammered.
"Mind your place! You're not qualified to remind me!" Luca said coldly, then turned his gaze to the others. "Get moving and prepare for the upcoming interrogation!"
The others in the room were visibly relieved. They did not want to remain in front of Dr. Smith while he was clearly angry. If Dr. Smith vented his frustration by making them scapegoats, it would not end well for them.
Once everyone had left, Luca kept Liam behind in the interrogation room.
"Although we've shifted the focus of the interrogation, you still need to stay here. You must ensure that nothing goes wrong with Luca's dream. His consciousness may try to break free from the dream."
The consciousness Luca referred to attempting to break out of the dream was, of course, Dr. Smith's consciousness.
At that moment, Dr. Smith's consciousness was trapped at the edge of the dream. This left his mind in a state of intense rage. If he couldn't escape the dream in a short period of time or find a body that could contain his consciousness, Dr. Smith's consciousness was at risk of completely dissipating.
Therefore, the dream would continuously be under assault by Dr. Smith's struggling consciousness.
Liam nodded heavily.
"Don't worry! His consciousness absolutely won't be able to escape the dream!"
Luca smiled in satisfaction, then left the interrogation room. His next goal was to get to Dr. Smith's office as quickly as possible.
After passing through one corridor after another, Luca reached the elevator that led directly to Dr. Smith's office area.
There, he encountered Minister Lin, who was in charge of administration.
"Is everything going smoothly? Have you obtained the intelligence we need?" Minister Lin asked with a smile.
"Well, it's not exactly going perfectly, but we have obtained some intelligence," Luca answered with a smile as well.
"Really? Can you share any of it?"
"Not yet. The intelligence I obtained hasn't been verified. I need to cross-check it with the intelligence we already have before I can reveal anything."
Minister Lin was very pleased with Luca's answer. He pressed the button for Dr. Smith's office floor.
"Then you should hurry up. The headquarters is getting a little impatient. They think our progress is too slow. They sent a special agent half an hour ago. Once he arrives, there will be nothing left for us to do."
Luca was shocked by this statement. He hadn't expected Zenith Technology Company to send a special agent from headquarters. Moreover, from the way Lin spoke, it was clear that this agent was very powerful.
He needed to act quickly.
"Don't worry. I won't let the special agent from headquarters steal our credit. In the end, the success will belong to both you and me."
"That's good to hear!"
The elevator doors closed, and Minister Lin's nauseating smile finally disappeared.
"It seems things aren't as simple as I thought. Although I don't know the exact location of headquarters, the special agent's strength and status must be extremely high. He should be able to get here in no time," Luca kept pondering his next course of action.
He knew he had to speed up his progress.
So, after arriving at Dr. Smith's office, he immediately headed straight for the safe in the back of the office.
Once the safe was open, he quickly packed up all the documents and took them with him. The files in the safe were highly important, and Luca couldn't afford to leave any behind. However, time was running out. There wasn't enough time to go through each document, so packing them all up and taking them was the only reasonable choice.
His next task was to rush back to the interrogation room. He had to return his consciousness to his own body, but before doing that, he first needed to ensure that his body was freed.
When Luca returned to the interrogation room, all preparations were already complete.
"Doctor, the parameters have been set! We can begin interrogating Quagmire now!" Liam quickly reported.
Luca nodded.
"Let's start right away. No more wasting time. I'll directly enter Quagmire's dream. Only then will we be able to quickly extract useful intelligence."
Although the others were somewhat puzzled, they followed the orders and began the operation.
Luca's consciousness quickly entered Quagmire's dream.
At that moment, Quagmire was still in a very confused state. He was wandering aimlessly through the dream world.
"Wake up! We need to retreat immediately! The situation has gone beyond my expectations. The enemies we're about to face are far too powerful; we can't engage them head-on," Luca used his dream manipulation abilities to force Quagmire to wake up.
Quagmire, still recovering from the disorienting state and not particularly intelligent to begin with, looked utterly bewildered.
"Stop standing there! Remember every word I say from now on! My consciousness is about to leave the dream, and someone else's consciousness will enter," Luca quickly laid out his plan.
"What you need to do is very simple: control that person's consciousness. I will provide help from outside the dream. Right now, all you need to do is remember these details of the plan," Luca explained, outlining his strategy.
After sharing his plan, Luca's consciousness swiftly departed from Quagmire's dream.
Although Quagmire was still very confused, he had no other choice but to follow Luca's instructions.
In the interrogation room, Luca casually pointed to someone.
"You will conduct the next interrogation. Enter Quagmire's dream with your own consciousness!"
The person, surprised yet pleased, nodded. After all, being selected by Dr. Smith meant they were highly regarded by the doctor.
