Pestilence: Rise Of The Pure Undead-Chapter 692 - Gamble
692: Gamble
692: Gamble
“Quideos Audit” the instant the ‘s’ sound was pronounced, Loimos swung his extending sword at the prophet, all the while continuing to speak in the same tone as though nothing was happening, a long gash was left on the wall behind the white-haired man, who managed to dodge the strike, even as the blade bent around and tried striking from the back.
Then, part of the sword exploded forth into a cone of shrapnel, revealing a most vile, gooey substance stored within, but the seer managed to evade it all.
“Don’t bother, Loimos… You are weakened whilst my own abilities have never been greater, I can predict all of your attacks” he said with a straight face, but the undead could feel a certain sense of trepidation.
So he just swung again, manifesting a soul beast right above the prophet this time, which came crashing down with just ferocity and momentum that went right through the ground and formed a pit by condensing everything below it together. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com
Meanwhile, he also began emitting noxious gas to fill the entire room with, a great advantage that Loimos had when it came to the ways of power of this realm was that he wasn’t limited to a clear and cut ability or form to what was created from, or bound to him.
The problem thought as that this made figuring out how to do the first and second step parts of them much more arduous, it was extremely likely that he would not figure it out until a while longer, but that was fine, the versatility and sheer power he could exert naturally were enough for him to gain the upper hand.
As for dealing with Audit, although the living was right that Loimos was nothing like his usual self here, his nature as a pure undead remained untouched, and as such, actually predicting his movements and actions was not a simple affair, peering at his fate, destiny or future at all and not instantly suffering backlash would already be extraordinary.
Quideos was probably the greatest seer to ever walk this world, and it showed as even though it must have been incredibly draining to even do once, he was able to foresee every of Loimos’s egregious, and nonsensical moves, be it the hundreds feints occurring every half-second, or dozens of attacks that were supposed to be launched, but never actually occurred, coupled with the ones that did occur but intentionally missed, and those that the undead made sure would go out of control and act sporadically without his direct influence, alongside the sheer complexity of his fighting style-
Quideos Audit felt like he was battle a monstrosity from the cosmos from how much his mind felt like it was being stepped on and chewed, and that was from a greatly weakened and much more limited Loimos, otherwise, he never would have dared to actually appear before him for real.
‘Absolute monster… This might not even work, but may I be damned if I don’t try it’ preparing something so big whilst under assault was difficult, especially as the physical attacks, the attempts at inflicting a toxin and other tricks were the least he had to worry about as Loimos was playing on just about every field and level at once, targeting the mind and soul as well.
“You are indeed much weaker than normal, but that isn’t what led me to appear before you today” Quideos felt like gritting his teeth as him trying to distract the undead with words had absolutely zero effects, the skeleton didn’t even question him, which he could without losing an efficiency, definitely intending on questioning the seer after he had him pinned down.
Stepping away from a blade strike, exiting the room as the gas was spreading far too quickly, Quideos Audit’s inner energies seemed to blaze as they surged out and ambient energies began to bow to his influence.
“Zone!”
‘A zone formed from prophetic power’ Loimos was without reaction as per usual, but that was quite the feat, and in the current situation, he couldn’t defend himself with a zone of his own, or get away from it at all, struck with the ability Quideos had wished to impact upon it.
He had once managed to overwhelm the undead form of an old hero with it, back when madness still reigned over his mind, so it potency coupled with the fact that he was using a zone should make it many times more powerful, however, he knew very well that it wouldn’t normally work on Loimos at all, regardless of power.
For it dealt with information, with his ability, Audit could consult the future, but also the past, by forcefully making the target experience all of their own possibles futures, their past and every variation of it, alongside Quideos’s own memories, which included countless prophecies and now a time of abject lunacy, the influx was so overwhelming that even one’s body would break down from enduring it for even an instant.
The fact that it had worked on one of the dead in the past was further proof of how powerful this attack was, however, Loimos was beyond that, as a pure undead, his mind could not be overwhelmed by any amount of information, he could process everything together and separately at once, if anything, actually trying to strike him with the ability would only tell him of the possible futures and probably be of benefit to the undead.
Right now, Loimos inhabited a living vessel however, and by going through that, Quideos believed that he could succeed in a certain way, not overwhelm him, but instead attempt to trick him into beholding a particular past that had not come to pass.
All relied on the fact that Audit could manage it in that particular circumstances, Loimos severely weakened, and stuck inside of a living vessel, that occasion was unlikely to ever show again, and even if it did, the skeleton wouldn’t be caught up in it a second time.
This only worked out because Quideos had only recently managed to achieve a zone and naturally, no one but him knew of this feat.
He focused intently, and the second it seemed like the undead was affected, he further condensed the zone to increase its potency, more and more until it basically perfectly followed the skeleton’s body.
Loimos remained standing and perfectly still, one would be incapable of telling if Audit was successful based on their eyes alone as the undead looked exactly the same as he moments prior, but the prophet knew that he had at least managed to go through with the first step of his plan.
The living crumbled to his knees, blood forcing its way out of his mouth, flowing down from the nose, eyes and ears.
“By the gods… I won’t hold on for long…” he muttered aloud in a gargling voice, as for what came now, it was fully down to luck as maintaining the zone was already pushing it for him, so taking further control of the ability or what would happen would just spell his doom without question.
“What… What is a foul creature like yourself experiencing right now?
I didn’t choose anything… But I have a feeling that I know where you currently are…”
