Chapter 33 -33: The Three Dangers of Shu Mountain [Added by Alliance Hierarch “Big Movies Cannot be Watched at Night”] _1

The Shu Mountain Sect has always been known for the “Three Evils of Shu Mountain”, namely the three things most desired to be rid of in the sect… those being Mahjong, hotpot, and Empress Feng.

The love for Mahjong is widespread in the Southwest Land, and the Shu Mountain Sect is no exception.

Once, the Shu Mountain Sect was famed throughout the Nine Heavens and Ten Lands for their love for Mahjong, and during the sect’s peak period, there were even discussions about whether playing Mahjong could have benefits for cultivation. The idea was quite absurd.

Only after the Shu Mountain Sect began to decline did they start to strictly ban such entertainment activities that might hinder cultivation. Nonetheless, the ban was imposed time and again with no effect.

However, as of today, playing Mahjong remains one of the most popular pastimes within the Shu Mountain Sect; it just has to be kept within reasonable limits.

In the once-in-a-decade Shu Mountain Peak Conference, besides the formal competition amongst the various peaks, there are also plenty of fun events, including the Shu Mountain Mahjong Tournament, the Flying Sword Racing Tournament, the Spirit Pet Fighting Tournament, and so on. Among these, the competition in the Mahjong Tournament has always been the most intense.

As for hotpot, it is also a popular custom in the Southwest Land, and Shu Mountain is no exception.

But why did hotpot become a disaster?

It’s because this way of eating is too encompassing. The saying “anything can go into a hotpot” is prevalent in the Shu Mountain. Once, Shu Mountain hotpot developed two distinct characteristics: “No spice, no interest” and “The stranger the better”.

Only your imagination limits the choice of ingredients, as there’s nothing that Shu Mountain wouldn’t throw into the pot. Birds, beasts, demons and monsters…there was even an intense competition amongst Shu Mountain disciples to catch rare demon beasts to taste new sources of fresh meat in their hotpot.

Today, you might simmer some dragon liver, and tomorrow, I’ll have some phoenix marrow. The small pot certainly caused much internal strife and competition. So tight was the competition, that many demon beasts ended up in the pot.

For a time, it was widely rumored that Shu Mountain people would eat just about anything.

While other sects would either consider selling or killing a demon beast, those from Shu Mountain would ponder whether to use red oil or clear soup for their hotpot.

It was only when the current Sect Leader personally banned such an unsavory practice that the unhealthy trend was curbed.

The first two evils have long histories, and the third, Empress Feng, is a rather recent addition.

When Empress Feng was young, she was truly a Shu Mountain villain, running rampant and bullying others. What made matters worse, was that she was extremely powerful, so almost none of her fellow disciples hadn’t suffered under her bullying.

When it was time to compete for the Peak Master position, no one supported her, but her cultivation level was at the ‘Wen Dao’ level which left people helpless to resist her.

Among the thirty-six Peak Masters of Shu Mountain, most are at the stage of ‘Dharma Body’, the sixth realm, and just around ten have ‘Wen Dao’ level cultivation. As for combat power alone, Empress Feng is not just in the top ten among the Peak Masters – but at least in the top three!

In fact, no Peak Master has ever dared to claim with confidence that they could defeat Empress Feng.

Luckily, she mellowed significantly after becoming a Peak Master. In recent years, there have been much fewer reports of Empress Feng causing trouble, causing many of the younger generation of disciples to be truly ignorant about the origin of the last evil.

Today, there were several young disciples of Shu Mountain who, after finishing a round of Mahjong, were enjoying hotpot and discussing Empress Feng.

“Boss, you want to take a tough stance? That’s not going to end well.” Henchman A exclaimed loudly.

Inside a wooden house on Yunyao Peak, a pot of red oil was bubbling, with slices of meat and fish balls bobbing up and down, and the aroma wafting all around.

Henchman B scooped a ladle of tripe out of the pot, tossing it into a bowl after it rose and fell seven to eight times.

Shang Ziliang, on the other hand, was sitting there looking worried, “What’s not going to end well? Weren’t you the ones who investigated and concluded that Chu Liang only has an early stage Divine Consciousness Realm cultivation level? I’m already at the peak of the Divine Consciousness Realm, and can soon breakthrough to form my Golden Core. It’s a sure win for me, isn’t it!”

Earlier, he had seen Xu Ziqing with Chu Liang in the Chuan Jian Hall, looking quite intimate and accompanied by a strange smell, which raised his suspicion.

After conducting the investigation, he found out the two had indeed just completed a mission together, and their relationship seemed to be quite good during the mission… This news immediately upset Shang Ziliang, who wanted to confront Chu Liang and warn him to stay away from Xu Ziqing.

Henchman A advised, “Boss… you only know that Chu Liang is at the Divine Consciousness Realm, but don’t forget, his master is Empress Feng!”

Henchman B took a big bite of the fatty beef, dipped it in sesame sauce, and swallowed it in delight.

Shang Ziliang said: “Her master is Empress Feng, and my father is also a peak master. Are you suggesting he would still fear her?”

Henchman A remained silent, but the meaning in his eyes was clear… he probably would fear her.

Yunyao Peak Master Shang Shuwen wasn’t renowned for his cultivation skills among the other peak masters. He was always scholarly and gentle in his conduct. This, compared to Empress Feng, was almost like his direct opposite…

“If it were some other peak master, they might be deferential to your father and not make much fuss with you. But that Empress Feng… she has never shown anyone any respect, if you do manage to anger her, who knows what could happen?” Henchman A advised earnestly.

Henchman B picked out a few more cubes of tofu and yellow throat.

“So what should we do?” asked Shang Ziliang.

“Boss, it’s not just her master we should be wary of. Let’s say you confront him out of nowhere, telling him to stay away from Junior Sister Ziqing and beat him up if he refuses… This whole situation doesn’t make us look good.” analyzed Henchman A. “In my opinion, we should proceed in secret for caution’s sake.”

Henchman B picked up a large piece of greens.

Shang Ziliang frowned in contemplation, “Proceed in secret? But I want to warn him, how can we do that secretly?”

“We can hatch a plan to give him a hard time, then leave him a message to warn him… If he dares to approach Junior Sister Ziqing again, there will be more hardships for him in the future. We can make sure we don’t reveal ourselves, this way, even if his master wants to help him, she won’t be able to pin it on us, how does that sound?” proposed Henchman A.

Henchman B then stood up to scoop some of the remaining bits of meat from the pot.

Shang Ziliang chuckled: “That sounds good, how do we let him feel the burn then?”

Henchman A laughed too: “I thought of this before. Remember Baize, boss?”

Shang Ziliang looked at Henchman A’s cunning expression, was momentarily stunned, then his face broke into a knowing smile, “Good thinking, quite clever.”

The two had just decided on their plan when Shang Ziliang’s worries lifted, and he reclaimed his appetite. He picked up his chopsticks ready to eat.

Only to find that the pot was empty.

“Huh? Where is the food?” He asked.

“Yeah, where is the food?” Henchman A hadn’t noticed it either.

“I don’t know.” Henchman B also shook his head, a look of puzzlement on his face: “It feels like there is no food left before we even started.”

Chu Liang returned to his own small room, calming his mind and starts to cultivate. Even though he now has Big Head Baby with him, he still needs to cultivate diligently himself whenever he has free time.

About four hours later, he took out the Soul Summoning Order and check out. There’s no new message inside.

Seems like when those Demonic Cultivators didn’t talk, the Soul Realm was rather peaceful.

Thinking about it makes sense, these Demonic Cultivators ordinarily move in the shadows, they’re cold-blooded, ruthless people. They’re usually too concerned with matters of life and death to have time for idle chatting.

Looking at the stone table outside, there was a new letter on it, probably delivered while he was cultivating.

He picked up the letter and opened it. There were only two lines of small characters.

“Senior Brother Chu, I will be waiting for you at Pagoda Peak at the third quarter of You hour… Xu Ziqing.”

“Hmm?” Chu Liang was confused when he saw the letter.

Was this letter written by Xu Ziqing?

“If this letter really was written by Junior Sister Xu, then she…” Chu Liang wondered, “Has horrific handwriting.”
